These things are fun. When I was doing my undergrad in Mechanical Engineering they had some combined classes of Sculpture majors and MEs. It was a great way for the engineers to get their hands dirty and design a little more creatively, and the sculptors to learn about the real physical limits of statics and dynamics. All sorts of fun and creative little designs came from that class, and the engineers got a bit of a lesson in aesthetic design thrown in for free.
Quite an interesting idea they have here. From Artists Against 419's FAQ: Wouldn't it be more effective to start a Denial of Service attack (DoS) against this 419 sites? We here at artists against 419 don't recommend any illegal practices! Such an attack might be more effective, but its less art.
Also from their FAQ: Aren't you fighting abuse with abuse? It's art! Sometimes art hurts, but there are no civil casualities in this battle.
You're right about the grammatical mistakes, though. Maybe artists aren't the best spellers.
So we go from road rage to red rage...great. How long is it before we see drivers taking the time they're forced to sit at the red light to add their own personal "piece of flair" to said red light?
So true. By the time the orchestra is on stage performing the piece, anyone could stand up there and wave their arms and the music would be pretty good. The real mark of a good conductor is how he prepares the orchestra in rehersal. That is where the artistic vision comes across. Once he demonstrates his idea of how the piece should sound, he can conduct with subtle nuances that are easily understood by the orchestra. But only with good preparation is that possible.
Actually, the energy cost for travel by flight is really no higher than for other transport methods. Consider a quick calculation:
A 747-400 has a range of about 8400 miles, and a fuel capacity of about 57,000 gallons. Multiply that by 410 seats, you get around 60 mpg per passenger. And Boeing's new 7E7 "Dreaminer" is touting much higher efficiency than any of their previous jets. Airbus is doing well too, with the new A380 and Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines. Fuel capacity of 82,000 gallons, range of 8000 miles, 555 seats. Thats around 55 mpg per passenger.
So those numbers are way better than the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards in the US, currently 20.6 mpg I believe, not including the SUV's buzzing around the suburbs that aren't subject to those rules.
Hydrogen fuel cells would be great, but they're nowhere near production status for commercial transport flight.
Why is this different from, or more importantly, better than mplayer or xine? Those are both media players that include the codecs and do quite a good job, if I do say so myself. Just wondering.
I believe that if they had agreed to a 7th game, it would have had to have been agreed on beforehand, and it would have been a "fire" round. This means each player would have to move in a limited amount of time, with the pace quickening as the game went on. This would have been a huge advantage to Deep Junior, which has the ability to calculate several million moves per second. Hence, no 7th tie breaker game in a human vs. computer match.
