do they think the skype based pron would be less stealable than the audio story porn thats on the net... or are they going to develop skype based 1900 numbers for skype phone"sex"
It certainly doesnt matter that somehow they managed to get someone so stupid as to screw up with the very best. which is incidentaly what the entire system is built from
This is the info "It operates on an IBM OS390 mainframe running ZOS with transactions in a CICS environment with DB2 database management. MQ-series provides the mainframe interfaces with the CCF gateway and other business applications. " And the CCF is run on "Communication channel management and CI runs on Sun Solaris Unix platforms and Cisco routers, with validation and transformation processed on IBM P- and SP-series Unix platforms and Wintel servers running IBM AIX, Win2K, DB2 , WebSphere, Tivoli WebSeal and Baltimore's FormSecure. "
I see only 2 weakpoints the win2k systems and the implementation of the Java handling in websphere. Other than that theres no reason any individual part should be failing, the entire thing is built from dependable parts.
I just guess no one properly considered that it would be handling "3 million import entries, 1.2 million export clearances, 4 million container and 100,000 flight movements, and the collection of nearly $7.5 billion in Customs duties." And remember... each one of those is likely to involve between 10 and 25 or more individual forms and checks and clearances... This isnt realy unexpected
I agree if it drags tons of people off ie then its good. But whats bad is i dont think my sanity will survive AOL luser help requests about this thing.
Your point that its targeting a particular demographic, and references to AOL... they scare me.
The web does not need ANOTHER wave of "OMG!!!!1111!!!! L0L1!!1!1 dats t3h funnyest sh1t!!"
No realy... demographics and even the money be damned. It still hasnt fully recovered from the first beating it took. Give the internet a few more years god damn it i Like free porn at my fingertips... without being assaulted by waves of pubescent complainers with bad grammar, worse spelling, horrendous keyboard skills, and who think replacing the vowels a e i and o with 4 3 1 and 0 repsectively, is "cool" or even worse "1337"

well if it goes beyond keeping people with a basic level of living yeah it starts to retard society. if your a street bum, the welfare you need is Food and Shelter and Clothes, the issue is, the welfare thell get is money, which can be exchanged for booze.
the deployment of the Aeroglass interface across Vista for ALL applications is the "reason" they built their crippled OpenGL and locked it to 1.4 so any programs written to use it would be the same on All copies of Vista. They want the thing to look the same for everyone. They may update the back end partialy in case of emergencies i expect, but theyre building their whole damn GUI, and Programing interfaces ontop of this thing, its going to be no trivial task to update it to enable a multitude of hardware vaugaries the way OpenGL 2.0 does through its ability to use hardware based extentions.
The WGF is going to be the entire GUI API set. do you even want them to change that often?
Dont forget AMD are building their own hardware virtualisation support as well and it'll be out at about the same time, Xen will be supporting this too:)
What i'd realy like is if they stoped making these crufty bloated x86 only binary servers. ( Im pointing my Finger squarely fscking at you EA and Dice. Damn you and your Stupidly high Requirements for the BF2 server, BS you need a 1.7Ghz box to serve a 16player game in dedicated server mode, Bull Fscking S*** )

im laughing my ass off, my brother saw the trailer on the net for it and he was complaining it wasnt as good as he was expecting, said "it looks like Soldier of Fortune"
oh how true he was... just not how he thought...
I have to say it, Is it just me or are games these days either doing one of three things when they get "better", theyre getting Bigger with no real improvement to graphics, their getting shinnier with no plot, or their getting faster with no attention paid to graphics or game size.

Thats one thing Voodoos are good for now. cheap extra monitor cards. way easier to get a Voodoo for it than hunding down a PCI based ATI or nVida card, and cheaper than paying for a Matrox card.
noooooooo.... No K9 cpus damn it... Dog hair and sensitive electronics dont mix.
Hopefuly AMD skip the K9 series and rebrand somehting snazzy with a title like the " K-X " series
