  1. " It was like she had something on the DNC or something where they had to support her."

Sure, she had Debbie Wasserman Schultz. But I'm sure everyone on the left is still going to blame Russia. This was a self inflicted wound.

But doesn't this artificially drive the demand & price of corn up? Thus improving the corn industries profits?

If they don’t, the money becomes worthless to them on Oct. 1. And — even worse — if they fail to spend the money now, Congress could dock their funding in future years. The incentive, as always, is to spend.

Let me wiki(pedia) that for you...

Unlike mogas, which has been formulated since the 1970s to allow the use of platinum-content catalytic converters for pollution reduction, the most commonly used grade of avgas still contains tetraethyllead (TEL), a toxic substance used to prevent engine knocking (detonation), with ongoing experiments aimed at eventually reducing or eliminating the use of TEL in aviation gasoline.

Avgas has a lower and more uniform vapor pressure than automotive gasoline so it remains in the liquid state despite the reduced atmospheric pressure at high altitude, thus preventing vapor lock.[

Automotive gasoline — known as mogas or autogas among aviators — that does not contain ethanol may be used in certified aircraft that have a Supplemental Type Certificate for automotive gasoline...

Wait, is it the greedy gas companies, or the ethanol producers? I always thought it was the corn industry pushing this, but then I haven't done my homework.

Here in VA, I'd love to see us get the clunkers off the road, but then we have this stupid annual "Personal Property Tax" on vehicles. So people hold onto them much longer than they should in order to pay lower taxes. My 2012 Dodge just cost me ~$800 for a vehicle with a blue book value in the low 20s.

  8. And this is why the federal student loan program is a failure. It's artificially raised the price of tuition across the nation.

  9. Oh? And who pays the people that buy the products? Don't play that bullshit game.

The whole point of this that companies will always try to maximize their profits. So, the only way to incentivize companies to do the right thing is through the ways and amounts that they get taxed. Raise corporate taxes too high, and they head offshore, and those that don't go have less money to fund more/better jobs.

  10. From Apple's 10-K for 2012:

    The Company’s effective tax rates were approximately 25.2%, 24.2%, and 24.4% for 2012, 2011, and 2010, respectively.

Maybe you should google before making up shit.

  11. They don't typically go from paying full taxes to paying none. There's a tipping point where it's more financially lucrative for a business to not ship their shit overseas. And it's not identical for every company.

  12. Why would we want to maximize tax revenue for one of the most inefficient organizations in the US...the federal government? So they can waste more? Give any federal agency more money, and they'll spend it weather they need it or now...that's how it's done. You see it at the end of every fiscal year. They blow whatever remaining budget they have just so they can tell Congress that they needed it. And on top of that, you'll just be adding to congressional pork programs.

Try living or working there for any real length of time. A weeks vacation? Fuck off.

It doesn't take more than a few hours to see through your lie.

  15. Sigh...you're too desperate in your attempt to put down the UK for their decision. There won't be any sonic booms over the country.

  17. I used to frequently fly overseas on business class. Most recently, from Atlanta to Dubai...that was a $5k ticket that the company paid for. As a 2%er, I'm personally too cheap to pay that kind of price for my own flights, even though my knees typically hit the seat in front when I'm sitting in sardine class. 14 hours in a tiny seat is cruel and unusual for anyone 6" or taller.

  18. "And, sorry to rant, just step back one second. If sonic booms from supersonic high flying aircraft are so loud, then how did the SR-71 engage in "covert" surveillance of the USSR? You'd just listen for it and know it was there. Of course, you need something to shoot it down (see Gary Powers, etc...) and I wonder if it's coincidence that Russia is known to have the world's best SAM systems?"

You might know the SR71 was there, but fat chance you could do anything about it. As for the U2, it flies ~20k ft lower, and much, much slower.

Flying at 90k+ feet, how long do you suppose it took the sound to reach the ground? How far away do you suppose the SR-71 was by then?

    90000/1100ft per sec = ~81 seconds.
    SR71 top speed = ~2200mph or .61 miles/sec .61 x 81 = approximately 50 miles.

And, that's assuming you're directly under the flight path.

  19. "Yet rich people seem to have no trouble forking out MILLIONS of dollars for the ability of a) being able to travel where and when they want, b) NOT being groped and herded by the TSA and immigration/customs officials and c) not having to mix with the rabble. If you think rich people are worried about paying a price and that's why Concorde failed, you don't understand rich people. "

It's human nature. If you don't have to wait, stand in line, put up with shitty food, etc., would you? It's the same reason that many people refuse to take public transportation in areas such as the Washington DC Metro...the commute is twice as long (and less reliable), you have (seriously) stinky people, and why the hell would I want to stand on a frickin' train when I can sit comfortably in my vehicle?

  20. You don't have to be rich to fly a Cessna. Go to nearly any USAF base, and you'll find an aero-club, where young airmen making poverty wages take flying lessons. I know, I got my license at one.

  21. "The reason golf clubs have a $10k yearly membership fee - it keeps out the peasants."

Agreed, but your $10k figure is way low at many locations.

  22. Trendlines change. You could have said the same about Japan or Korea, but at some point, they'll price themselves above other cheap labor, and the trend will change. That happened to both as their economies grew. Or possibly, the ongoing manipulation of their currency will bite them in the ass.

  23. Where are all the minorities in these riots? Oh yeah, not there. As Dave Chappelle said on SNL...I watched a white riot in Portland, Ore., on television the other night. News said they did a million dollars’ worth of damage. Every black person was watching that like, “amateurs.”
