Shit, we barely had radio and TV (3 channels that ended at midnight). Our social time was finding a field to play ball in, or playing cards with the family at night. There were photos, but usually on crappy 35mm slides that you'd only watch a couple times a year when the whole family got together.
We've had camera phones and Facebook for a few years now, and Boomers do use them, but not anywhere near as much as millennials. We prefer to do our social time face to face, or actually talking with our friends on the phone.
Yes, we all had Polaroids...how many photos did you ever see that were of the selfie variety?
You and your generation may have been, but we would have had our asses kicked if we ever said something disrespectful to an adult. You also don't see it in certain cultures. It's all about your upbringing.
Obama already started that as was witnessed during his reelection run. Remember when he was caught on the hot mike talking about how he could help the Russians after his reelection? Remember how he told Romney during the debates that the 80's called, and wanted it's foreign policy back? Obama has shown weakness, and that's what Putin's exploited.
Well stated, but some people are able to learn from history. You can't stand on the shoulders of giants, if you can't learn how and what they accomplished.
You're right, you have to have some brains as well. I can personally point to several friends and family members (myself included) who started out poor, and made out very well for themselves. And, while anecdotes aren't evidence, a single one can disprove your meme.
Inflation is much less of an issue than it was for decades. Go read a book, and learn about investing. Go look at the average return on the S&P500 over the last 70 years, and compare that to inflation. It costs next to nothing to do this.
The government has even more control over contractors than it does over it's own employees (who they can never seem to get rid of when there's incompetence)...I've been on both sides for 40 years now...there's no "grain of salt" necessary. Go look up how often, government employees are laid off, or fired, and get back with us. A contractor can be dumped very easily. Contractors are hired to do jobs that the Feds can't, and that's typically because highly skilled employees typically go for better paying jobs, and the Feds simply can't pay as well, so normally don't have enough skilled people. The government also hires contractors who are OEMs to be advisors for the equipment, applications or other products that they've sold to the govt. Contractors who are granted access are subject to the same legal penalties as government employees, so the "transient" issues is a non-starter. Also, people who get clearances, tend to move to other companies/jobs where they'll be able to keep them...there's a little more money & job security as these positions never go off-shore. I've seen the government attempt to replace contractors in several locations, and fail...it rarely ever works.
Lucky you. My plan (through United Healthcare), covering the family, is very close to $5k/year, along with co-pays and deductibles that have jumped every year. I think the Cadillac plans are being eliminated due to the changes going into affect over the next couple years. Here's an article on that.
Please provide one sliver of proof that this has occurred. It sure makes for great theater, but not so much real world because it would have easily been exposed by now.
Yeah, because the Canadian system is so wonderful.
My deceased aunt, an Ontario resident, got her free healthcare, but had to wait, and wait for services she needed for a brain tumor. You know, those services saved her money that she can't spend anymore. She could have gotten it addressed quickly here in the U.S., though at a price.
The ACA in its current form is a failed attempt to fix existing problems - it wasn't the cause of these existing problems.
It "fixed" problems by creating new, or worsening existing problems. There's no competition for providers, no more Cadillac plans (just lost mine), and skyrocketing costs. This can't continue because it's unsustainable.
Let me pile on here. My company (a Fortune 500 member) used to offer up to a half dozen different healthcare plans through several providers. As of this year, we were down to one with two plans, one a "Cadillac". For next year, we no longer have any options...just a single plan (not the Cadillac), and my doctor won't accept that one. Oh, and prices have continued to rise much faster than inflation every single year. So, tell me again why I should be happy with the ACA? We wanted to insure all of the uninsured?...okay fine, but stop screwing with everyone's existing coverage, jackasses.
Glad I searched for 45% before posting my own grip with this.
The linked survey site requires an account, so we can't see the results or methodology. I highly doubt that 45% are "using" those service. I have a couple of them because they came with my iPhone, iPad, and PCs. I don't "use" them, because they suck balls.
who's left with actual income to purchase the goods or services these robots provide?
Agreed, which is why, in spite of my normally fiscally conservative beliefs, I think we need to see some experiments with Universal Basic Income.
And only 20 years later we were buying Volkswagens and Toyotas. Go figure.

So, you're blaming all the Boomers for the Internet Bubble the Housing Bubble, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the college loan problem. Got it.

We haven't been called on to do anything but buy shit and get fat
Well, I'm sure you're the Greatest at that.
Working hard is for easily exploitable suckers.

He's too busy posting as a chicken shit AC to come and defend his bullshit.

Soylent Brown?
You can't fix one country's troubles by dragging down another. But, you can't expect the U.S. to help others when it's not helping it's own.
Well, it was "catch and release" with HRC. I'd personally skin them both.

You're full of shit. Nobody gets TS and above access with only a credit check.

.the only department of the US Government that actually listens to you.
But only if you use the trigger words.
Like "hello" and "goodbye"?

What a load of crap. VA medical has been in the shitter for decades, and the government has done next to nothing to fix it.
And yes, I'm a vet.
Let us know when they go after Disney. Nobody gives a shit about these small potatoes.
So if
2 x (wrongs) = right
3 x rights = left
then
6 x (wrongs) = left
right?
