Joey Senat, an associate professor of journalism at Oklahoma State University who writes for FOI Oklahoma, adding that what might be convenient to trial participants does not outweigh 'the public's right or need to know.'"
Freedom of the press does not give the media free reign to interfere with other peoples rights, such as the right to a fair trial. The statement about the public's right or need to know is nothing but self-serving propaganda. Take your 15 minutes of fame, and go away.
Isn't this about technical mistakes, not bad business decisions? The Lisa cost around $10,000 at the time of introduction. Obviously, it wasn't going to sell a ton even to geeks (though I knew one that took the plunge), but it certainly was ground breaking in many ways. On a personal note, I waited for the 128k Mac, at around $1800.
The idea that a tiny level of ash will cause an airliner to fall out of the sky is just silly, and while I'd agree that closing down European airspace for a brief period was justified, keeping it closed for days was certainly an overreaction by burrowcrats who were too scared to take the risk of letting planes fly.
I'm certain that nobody would want to be the bureaucrat that opened the airways, and ended up explaining why planes were dropping from the sky. They erred on the side of caution, and rightfully so until proper tests were executed, and the appropriate experts consulted. Does anyone know what that level of ash is that makes it unsafe to fly?...I've seen zero references to anything scientific above. Do the airlines know what that level is? Did the authorities know what that level was, and what areas of Europe were above/below it? When an event like this occurs, getting the right minds together to come up with the right solutions takes time, as does the info gathering, reporting, and followup. Certainly, a few days was not unreasonable.
Nobody is forcing them to. Pilots can easily refuse a potentially dangerous flight, just like a customer can. No doubt they'd receive danger pay and all that.
I really don't understand your reasoning behind your argument, it's as though you think pilots are robots.
True, but people will often do what they're told in order to keep their jobs if they believe the risks are low enough. Pilots are not authorities on this subject, and apparently nobody here has found any authoritative information (I've seen none sited above) on what levels of ash are acceptable.
Unless you have some evidence pointing to the contrary, your comment about pilots receiving danger pay is nothing more than a wild ass guess. One which I highly doubt.
As much as everyone hates to deny it, calories are basically the only things that matter. It doesn't matter if you get them by carbs or fats, if you eat too many calories, you'll get fatter. People rant about different diets... eg the atkins. They did a study of people doing Atkins diets, and they found that the people who lost weight took in less calories. It wasn't about carbs or fat, it was just purely less calories.
Ok, this is only anecdotal, so fwiw...
My wife did Atkins, and lost 60lbs. At the same time, my cardiologist put me on South Beach (the only diet I've ever been on, and lost 40 lbs.). We both ate as much as we wanted, and certainly consumed more than I did previously. Neither of us tracked calories, since it's not a focus of either diet, but there were days where I really pig'ed out, and was shocked that I wasn't gaining. For me, I could live with that diet, but really missed pizza (though we did order some, and just ate the toppings), and pasta.
Yes, it's called the defense budget because calling it "offense" would be politically incorrect, but we both digress from the point you originally raised.
Your original argument was that we don't need FEMA and that the AF and National Guard should have acted. And you've made no rational argument that they could have done that job at the time. I pointed that out, and know this topic (as a former Airman, and 28 yr defense contractor) first hand, and will say it one more time for you. The military is not funded, or trained for it. You argued that they do biological disaster training...yes, everyone gets "NBC" training, which is in no way appropriate for anything like what happened in Katrina.
So again, if you want the military to do these functions, it's going to take more than someone saying "make it so"...much, much more.
Why the hell do we need FEMA? Isn't that why we have the largest military (budget) in the world? The National Guard and the Air force should have immediately mobilized to New Orleans just hours after the storm cleared. Supplies should have been air dropped from Dobbins Air Force Base and other nearby bases. The military is organized and equipped. FEMA is just bureaucracy, its better the use the resources at hand.
Well, let's see. The AF isn't funded for it, and isn't trained for it, and is busy fighting wars. If you want to reorganize the govt., that's fine, but the military budget isn't there to pay for natural disasters, that's what FEMA was supposed to do. If that's what you expect, than convince congress to disband FEMA and give their budget to the military for that purpose. Hope that's not "2obvious4u".:-P
As soon as this tool starts showing that poor minority kids are more likely to become criminals, some group will scream racisim or "profiling", and judges will order agencies to stop doing it. Might take a couple years, but I'll make a prediction here that it's forbidden after the first court case.
I took a class in religion studies in college. UFO or other paranormal theories would fit right in there.
Well, other than Orson Wells War of the Worlds, how have UFOs been involved in shaping any actual events on planet earth? Weather you believe in some diety(s) or not, you can't deny the impact religion has had on society. Not so much for UFOs. My college freshman daughter just signed up for religion for next semester, and I have no problem funding the expense. If it was UFOs, she'd be looking for a different source to cover the costs.
Please tell me you are not being serious. Strategic nuclear weapons in bombers make no sense since the ICBM was invented. If someone launches an ICBM attack in 15 minutes the bombs are dropping. By that time the pilots are probably still getting out of their bunkers, let alone spinning up the engines, or actually getting to the destination. Doing that would be tantamount to political suicide. You lose the retaliatory strike ability that made MAD successful in guaranteeing world peace in the first place.
Please tell me that you don't think the military spent billions on a fleet of nuclear bombers for no reason. During the cold war and up until 1991, those bomber crews were on constant alert, and we certainly would have had many in the air in time for a retaliatory attack. Suggest you watch this video, and read the notes from one of the posters there: http://nycaviation.com/forum/b52-scramble-drill-t17274.html
If the world governments all join up to save the world from the greenhouse gases, once the smoke clears we're left with a single world government. AKA, a global monopoly.
It's impractical in the extreme for most people to move to a different state for different state laws; you have jobs, family, friends that have to be left behind to do it. In this economy asking someone to give their job up to move is beyond stupid; jobs are hard to get. Plus, moving is damned expensive.
Multiply that a thousandfold for moving to a different country. In many cases it's impossible; try emigrating from Iran to Britain, or Afghanistan to to the US for example. Move to a different country and you're not a citizen of the place you live.
Are you a multibillionaire for whom these extreme restrictions don't apply, a high school student who lacks experience in the real world, or a university educator in an ivory tower who can simply ignore aspects of reality? There's no way I could move to California, let alone Canada. It bears no resemblance whatever to web browsers or phone companies.
It hardly takes being a "multibillionaire" to move from one place to another. Immigrants come to the U.S. all the time with next to nothing. My grandfather did exactly that back about 90 years ago, and ended up owning his own buisiness in a few years. It's more about how much shit you're willing to put up with before it becomes too oppressive, and outweighs the not-insignificant cost of moving. You just need to be certain that the grass really is greener on the other side.
National security is an excuse used when a government does something illegal and doesn't want anyone to know.
And remember if you haven't done anything wrong you have nothing to hide.
Your first sentence is bullshit unless you simply don't believe anything should ever be classified. I'll agree with the sarcasm of the second. There is extremely little that goes on inside the govt. that isn't known by too many people to keep serious wrongdoing from becoming public. Take your little conspiracy theory away, and come back when you have something concrete to point to. Seriously, have you ever tried to keep a secret between you and more than a couple of friends? It just doesn't work because someone always gabs, and that's why people who believe things like NASA faking the lunar landings, and the Navy shooting John Kennedy's plane down, are simply fringe lunatics.
I've never had any trouble actually getting up in the morning but I'm always a wreck for the first few hours if I'm forced to get up early
This was true for me up until I decided to stop drinking any caffeine. No coffee, no tea, no sodas.
Suddenly waking up was like flipping a lightswitch - I go from dead asleep to fully alert and functional in a couple seconds on a bad day, less than that most of the time.
Interesting. I've been a caffine addict for 30+ years, and have never had difficulty sleeping, or getting up early (5-6am), and normally only require 5-6 hours of sleep. Only down side for me has been when I've had no access to it, and then I pay with a headache.
While I'm all in favor of transparency in government, I hope this doesn't lead situations similar to what is going on in my local. The county government here posts all tax information related to peoples homes online. This includes the current assessment, owners names, price paid, etc. And while it's all nice that this is available online, it has become the source of junkmail, and datamining by companies looking for folks fitting certain demographics. Fortunately, the county finally saw the light, and allowed us citizens to opt out of having our names posted, and replacing them with "Name Withheld by Request". So, now I get junk mail addressed like that.
And yet they're all dead now, every last Roman. Care to rethink that?
Better tell someone...2.7-3.7 million just died.
Rome (English pronunciation:/rom/; Italian: Roma About this sound listen (helpinfo), pronounced [roma]; Latin: Rma) is the capital of Italy and the country's largest and most populated municipality (central area), with over 2.7 million residents in 1,285.3 km2 (496.3 sq mi). While the population of the urban area was estimated by Eurostat to have been 3.46 million in 2004,[2] the metropolitan area of Rome was estimated by OECD to have had a population of 3.7 million no later than 2006.[3]
what part of not paying taxes do you think is not getting something free?
let me spell it out slowly for you so you can understand.... because clearly you're thick...
THE DON'T PAY FUCKING TAXES LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HAS TO.
catch it that time? i know it's subtle...
Clearly, you don't understand that when a transaction occurs, there are two parts...paying, and receiving. Thank you very much for the insult, but I'm simply asking what it is that you think they are receiving, that they should be paying for.
You mentioned "big pharma" as the reason for America's healthcare costs. Certainly, that's part of the issue. Other parts include insurance company and hospital profits. And, I'm certain that your medical systems don't have the legal fees from lawsuits that our system sees.
You're paying £50/month? What about monies from your taxes that go toward the system? Do your companies also pay into the system? Just as a point of reference, I pay $109.32 every two weeks to cover myself, wife and kid, and am very satisfied with the service I've received. Though the continuing rise in costs is certainly concerning.
Those are concessions to the Republicans. If the Republicans get their way they will screw up the bill so badly that the implementation is doomed to fail. Then they can point back and say 'I told you it will fail!'
Please explain why ANY concessions would be made to the Republicans when they are universally not voting for this? Sorry, I'm calling bullshit.
True, the tools are no worse than today, but you will have been conditioned to use the HUD - think along the lines of those drivers who have only ever used automatic transmission
I own an old 98 Grand Prix GTP with the HUD. It quickly became one move my favorite features, as I never needed to look down for my speed, blinker, brights, or even radio station. When I purchased another vehicle in 03 (Infiniti FX45...loaded with gadgets), it was about the only feature I truely missed. However, I had, nor have any trouble switching between vehicles.
The same was true when I owned a manual 85 Corvette, and an automatic Mercedes 350SE...no trouble.
I don't consider myself any kind of rocket scientist, so I'd be surprised that anyone would actually have difficulty moving between these technologies, but then I am able to walk and chew bubblegum.
but the government can (and does) support every established religion (tax exempt status)
Not trying to pick on you in particular, but I've seen this line of thinking in a number of comments recently. What exactly is it about not being required to pay taxes that you consider to be "support"?
Now I won't argue that other means of support don't occur (I get annoyed with the police blocking the roads for the local church to empty their parking lot by my house, and the congregation being allowed to park anywhere illegally).

Does microwaving suffice for killing bacteria? If so, is it the radiation, or the food heat that does the trick?

What's today's date?
Think about it.
Well, I'm reading it on April 2.0
If the world governments all join up to save the world from the greenhouse gases, once the smoke clears we're left with a single world government. AKA, a global monopoly.

That is absolutely false.
