  1. Re:I remeber... on Enlightenment Lives · · Score: 2, Funny

I remeber back in the old days when everyone used either E or Windowmaker or Afterstep.

Gawd, I feel old. The old days to me means when vtwm came out.

    *sigh*

  2. Sun Ray on A Silent PC Solution? · · Score: 1

My solution is a simple one.... all the servers are in the basement and I use Sun Ray's everywhere else in the house. It's nice to just slip the smart card into the reader and have my session, complete with any open files, etc., restored to exactly as it was when I was using it before. They're pretty much X terminals, but the X server doesn't even run locally on them. I love them - they have no fans, no disks.. completley silent unless I have some MP3's playing ;)

  3. Stability on FreeBSD 4.9 Stability Update · · Score: 5, Insightful

I, for one, am very pleased to see the release team err on the side of caution and make sure that stability issues have been resolved before releasing 4.9. It seems that too much software is release way too early - and while not intended to be a troll - especially Linux with it's libc and kernel du'jour. I'll use Linux when I have no choice, but the stability and ease of use of FreeBSD make it my top choice for my x86 servers.

We all know how distracting gravity can be!

  5. Aida on Perfumed, Glowing Cloth · · Score: 1

I saw Aida last night with the Luminex costumes. They only really had two scenes using it.. one of the scenes worked very well - dancers had "wings" made of it. It was very effective.

The other scene was less impressive. It ended up coming across as tacky. What made it even worse was they didn't bother to hook up a remote controlled on/off switch, so the performer had to hold a switch in her hand to turn it on at the right time.

Even with the effective scene, it seems more like a gimic that would be more appropriate for use in Cats, or just about any other Andrew Lloyd Webber production, than opera.

I couldn't think of a single use in my home or wardrobe where I would even contemplate using it. Of course, with the price, there is no chance of it showing up in my home anyway.
