First off, I hate PETA, I eat meat, and I'm proud of it.
I will say this: they're right about the whole overloading the cattle to death.
It's not dropping from 8 tons to 5 tons. It's dropping from 8 tons to zero tons, because the cow dies.
What a lot of farmers don't realize is that running a cow at 8 tons a year (number pulled out of my ass), it'll die in five years (again, another number pulled out of my ass, but it's fairly accurate, from what I've heard), yielding 40 tons for the whole lifetime.
Milking 5 tons per year, with it living 10 years (not unrealistic), will give you 50 tons in the lifetime.
Compare it to an extreme overclock - which is essentially what the Big Farms are doing to their cattle. That 2.4GHz CPU that you've got running at 3GHz might not do too well, and might quit working in five years - so, you want a cheap little web server? Sorry, your old rig is dead, and you'll have to get another one. But, at stock, it'll most likely still be around, slaving away as a little server.
Of course, a lot of it's the breeding of the cattle - they're bred to overproduce like that. Going back to the CPU example, it'd be like a 2.4GHz-rated CPU running at 2.8GHz when it was installed - you'd just have to tweak it a little more to get it up to 3GHz.
So, yes, there's a point of diminishing returns if you're running on fossil fuels. However, on biofuels, the environmental impact is a lot better, going for diesel instead of a gas/electric hybrid. (And, yes, I know that a diesel/electric hybrid is possible.)
That's why they're replacing NetBurst (and P6, the old Pentium Pro design that the Pentium M is a variant of, for that matter) RSN, with Merom, Conroe, and (crap, forgot the server core).
The new designs are going to be inspired by the Pentium M, though.
I just hope that AMD has something up their sleeve, like K9, because Intel's Fred architecture (hey, that's what Tech Report is calling it) looks like it'll kick K8's ass. And remember when AMD was only for budget PCs, and the company wasn't doing well? It meant that Intel's stuff was EXPENSIVE, because they didn't have competition at the high-end.
VW also has the Lupo 3L (3L/100km - about 78.4 US MPG), which has a 1.2L TDI diesel engine.
Now, if only we could get something like that here in the US... I've read that it sucks to drive, but considering that it beats even the most efficient hybrids on fuel economy... (although, heck, the 1.9L TDIs in the Golf and Jetta DO beat some hybrids - even the Prius has trouble keeping up...)
However, VPC emulates more standard hardware that OSes (especially old ones) support out of the box. Important when you're playing with an old OS, and you need driver support.
However, the new Category view is something I would actually use, as it looks like a no-BS thing. Like you said, the quick links are now there, making things easier. And, in Category view on XP, sometimes I have to guess as to where a control panel will be (sometimes, it's under two levels!), so I just drop it to Classic, where I can go by alphabetic order.
Anyway, Tiger has 64-bit hooks, but is a 32-bit OS (read: 32-bit kernel with a little bit of 64-bit duct tape).
That also means that 99% of the userland is 32-bit. 32-bit browser + 32-bit Flash works fine. 64-bit browser + 32-bit Flash doesn't. THAT is the point of this thread. You can run a 32-bit browser on a 64-bit Linux, but people would rather run the 64-bit browser that takes advantage of their HW.
FWIW, I do think that posting something like that wasn't the greatest idea, and the OP should have been banned. Banning anyone who even KNEW about it, though?
Who said they were even using TCP/IP from the DS to the AP?
I'm thinking the following:
Only allow access to *.nintendo.com Use a different protocol for DS communications, and only allow traffic on those ports.
Besides, I've been in a McD's with WiFi, using the laptop. Any HTTP access is stopped right there, along with other protocols. I'd think they'd just open the port(s) for DS communications to free access. So, a DS emu would work...
First introduced by IBrowse back in April 1999, Browser Tabs take away the clutter often associated with multiple window applications.
Blown away by NetCaptor. I'm looking for InternetWorks, which was available at ftp://ftp.booklink.com/lite/netlite.exe, but it's not there any more - the domain was bought by a domain squatter, the product was bought long ago by AOL.
With XP, the only edition was Professional, until the final version was released. You actually couldn't do an upgrade install from XP Pro Beta to XP Home Final, but you COULD do an upgrade install (at upgrade prices, IIRC) from XP Pro Beta to XP Pro Final...
You know... Yahoo! verified her age, and said she was 18...
Sue Yahoo!...</bastard>
That said... I thought that if you could prove that you checked her ID, and it said 18, you were fine.
Besides, if she's 16 or up, in Ohio, she's legal. Granted, if she's 13, she's only legal for 13 year olds - it's just as bad for a 14 yo to have sex with her as it is for a 41 yo.

No, because the sperm would die fairy quickly.
You have to do a WHOLE crapload of stuff to get the sperm frozen to keep it from dying, involving both dry and liquid nitrogen.
Hey, you haven't seen how fast the little things multiply.
We won't run out of cats.
Besides, what's wrong with hemp biodiesel?
There's also the fact that diesel engines can run on biodiesel without modifications.
How many "Future Fuel Vehicles" that can run on ethanol w/o modifications are there? How many of those are gas/electric hybrids?
Also, I've read that biodiesel gives much more energy per unit of energy put in obtaining it than ethanol. Take a look at this: http://www.mda.state.mn.us/ethanol/balance.html

They HAVE admitted that it failed.

You're only counting gassers.

Similar policy at my school. We use a generic password for the default, but check that "Password must be reset on next logon" box.
Of course, these are kids. The password is from zero to guessed in about 10 seconds.
Well, here's an MS VPC fan.
I'll admit, I haven't played with VMWare WS5.
VPC is also slower, from what I've seen.
However, VPC emulates more standard hardware that OSes (especially old ones) support out of the box. Important when you're playing with an old OS, and you need driver support.
Basically, have you seen how there's a QEMU image of ReactOS, and I'm sure other OSes have QEMU and Bochs images?
Well, this means that they can now use a VMWare image, and link to the VMWare Player.
Yes, I do use classic in XP.

Show me a category view, and then I can comment.
OS X appears to have a decent category view.
However, the Vista screenshot you linked was in Classic view. Not only that, but it was in details view.
XP's category view kinda blows, but let's see the Category view on Vista first.
(Posted by someone who will NOT be running Vista. I'm just interested because I may well end up having to support the thing...)
Mod me troll, but I'll say this.

Tim Buckley's a pedo. And pulled a Jack Thompson trying to cover it up.

And Windows has built-in routing software. Check out that "Internet Connection Sharing" thingy :D
OK... Imagine a scenario:
A bee (or wasp) lands on your can of soda, and crawls in (I've seen it plenty of times). What do you do?
If you'd drink it, I'd laugh at you when you get stung.
It's not at all like the "germs in the pillows" (never even fscking HEARD of that...)
Very possible to sideswipe someone when running a light/sign/etc.
See, I was a passenger in a sideswipe due to running a stop sign.
It's simply realizing too late that you ran the sign, and you're about to wreck, so you swerve, but not quick enough. Bam, instant sideswipe.
Instead, price and "brand importance" of the PC itself reigns supreme.
Dell, HP, Compaq, eMachines, and Gateway are the novice's friends, or so they think.
IBMs are expensive, and not worth it, in the eyes of the novice.
Averatec is an unknown, but when they look at the size of the laptop, they think, "Averatec's awesome!"
Well, the whole point of the RESKINNING itself is to make it look like Vista. So, this is the real deal, the reskinned ones are ripping off of it.

Exactly.
13 - 13 only.
14 - 14-16 only.
15 - 14-17 only.
16 - 14+ only.
17 - 15+ only.
18+ - 16+ only.

You're looking at a data card. I'm talking about on the phone.
They say $10 for Sprint PCS Vision for Business - I can't find the price for Vision for personal, but it was $15 last I checked.
Also, it's $5/mo to add Vision to an alternative line.
I know that, twat.
Notice that the bars are going down the toilet in their new logo?
Still, the networks are fairly separate. Sprint for CDMA, Nextel for iDEN.
It's just that you get them from the same company, now.
