  3. Linux sabotages itself no need to sabotage from M$ on Stopping Linux Desktop Adoption Sabotage · · Score: 1

Excuse my bad english, is not my native tongue.
Trust me i'm no M$ apologizer, i hate them as much as all ./ers do.
Linux sabotages itself, i've worked on a project to sell linux preinstalled on cheap boxes sold in my country, we wasted 3 months trying to develop a distro with a decent GUI. I never been so frustrated by the lack of common sense in the GNOME/KDE/Xfree communities, from problems like being unable to add a goddamn item to a gnome menu to the total confusion created by the mostly useless options in KDE , how is possible that linux users cannot fu**ing change the resolution color depth and refresh rate in realtime? Do a simple test, install XP and Gnome/KDE on the same machine, guess what, XP (i regret to say this and hope that someday this changes) is faster , i mean WAAAAY faster, everything is smoother everything works. Why can't this be done in Linux? I tend to blame X and it's ancient Client/Server architecture, i think that smething must be done to get rid of it or at least make it a modern technology with perhaps direct access to the hardware instead of the kludge of apis and interfaces required (kde/gnome/qt/gtk/ice/X/DRM/etc.etc) today. why can't the very capable OSS community come out with a solution like Apple Quartz did. I don't know much programming as to help or start any project, but i gladly donate to such a project.
So it's not definitely M$ fault, Stop blaming M$ or others for all the shortcomings of Linux GUI development and rethink the whole idea.

Yes, the Game Industry Bullshit Index has gone straight to the top, i don't know if it's me reaching 30 years or eveyone feels the same, but i haven't seen an innovative video game concept for the last 2 years, every new game that they promote hard (FarCry, Doom3 etc etc) they are seem to be made to sell you ultra expensive 31337 H4x0R cutting edge (insert your favourite video card and/or CPU hardware maker here) hardware needed to play it. In fact like someone said in this thread all those cool effects can be made on 32bit CPU's, the game industry each day seems to follow the Film Industry paces, crappy gameplay with spectacular video effects, WHO F*CK want's it ?? GTA is an example of this, does anyone here remember the GTA1/2 Saga? I bet that those games were in fact innovative at the release moment? now take GTA3/San Andreas, it seems more and more bloated gameplay is a disaster, nice visual effects, but where is the innovation ? Oh, for sure you can go f*ck some chicks, good for the nerds to train themselves!. Electronics Arts is the prime example of what should not be done in this game industry of today, more and more they adopt Micro$oft bullying tactics, f*ck gameplay, f*ck the people, pay the game and shut up.

This guy is a complete pain in the ass, he thinks of himself as he is the master-of-all-wisdoms-in-the-pc-biz, i remember almost puking 10 years ago while reading his columns in PC Magazine back in '94. He's a petulant and a badass, i highly bet he badly needs some viagra or cialis (HEY VIAGRA SPAMMERS!! SEND HIM SOME MAIL!!). All around the article you can see that the guy doesn't has the slightiest idea of what linux is or how it works.
If Microsoft actually produced an MS-Linux that was the standard Linux attached to the driver layer of Windows, giving users full Plug and Play (PnP) support of all their peripherals
I'm no linux kernel h4x0r but i suspect that'd require a mayor kernel rewrite with considerable R&D investment. INVESTMENT THAT M$ WOULD BETTER SPEND IMPROVING THE KLUDGE THAT WINDOZE IS. Who cares about the voice thing ?? How many of the readers will care to actually speak to their browser, imagine a office full of people all talking to their browsers.. that's simply stupid.
I think that Opera people should care most about fixing things in it's browser instead of adding features that nobody (95%) will use.
Like M2, it simply sucks with IMAP, i was using it till i tried Thunderbird, did the switch about 5 minutes of starting it up for the first time.
The opera forums are full with complaints, why don't Opera listen to them, i'd do so before my userbase flies right into the open (and free) arms of Firefox.

  7. EA did this to FIFA series (Soccer, sorry) on EA Obtains Exclusive NFL Licensing Rights · · Score: 1

EA already did this , i'm not sure but they hold the license to use FIFA and some euro league teams and players, the game was superb till the France 98 cup edition, after that there is no innovation except changing the key layout (drives me crazy makes me uninstall the game after 5 minutes of playing them) adding fancy graphics that need lotsa CPU and GPU horsepower and lame background music.
The games was effectively killed and i guess that a quick research will find that the userbase (if such a thing exist for a game) it's going down the drain, people don't but new versions and stay playing old ones that are better indeed.
You can smell this on online gaming forums where there used to be a lot of expectation before FIFA XXXX releases. Now nobody cares what the hell the release dates is because the game is known to be a load of crap.
Perhaps the only game that still survives EA policies is Need For Speed the latest version being a huge improvement over the old ones.
My advice to all fellow players respecting to EA games, don't buy the games before trying them in advance. don't waste your hard earned money on teh MS of the gaming industry.

IMHO, XFree is what prevents Linux from becoming mainstream on the desktop, i mean, X is a kludge, slow, and prone to problems when used at a desktop , the kde/gnome/whatever people should seriously consider getting rid of X as the underlying layer and instead promote/invent/code a different layer that gets rid of the client/server features of X and focus on acceleration by using direct hardware access, like M$ did when moved the graphic driver into kernel space and WinNT graphic performance skyrocketed. Just to avoid getting flamed as a M$ lover, i administer a 50 server farm 95% of them running Gentoo Linux, and i hate Windoze , but i can't replace it on my desktop yet, it's simply not ready, surely GNOME/KDE looks gorgeous in comparation of WinXP, but the sad truth is that it's slow as hell.

I'm posting two links that will be of interest to anyone researching in How the A-Bomb was made and tend not to swallow the "official" history or at least want to have all possibilities before forming an opinion on the subject.

This page is in Spanish (use google translate)
    http://www.3dshort.com/nazibomb2/
It' s a review for a book called WUNDERWAFFEN
"...a definitive approach to the nazi atom bomb history, done thanks to recently desclassified russian, Japanesse, east-german and american documents. They (the nazis) had the bomb in 1943, and both Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were captured in Norway by the allies in May, 1945. Stalins soviet Union suffered also a "distance nuclear test" in last February, then the russian dictator was forced to create the "1908s Tunguska Meteorite Fake", occluding the facts...at last, this book is a rational explanation for many pseudo-esoteric, UFO legends done in the last 60 years..." from the books prologue.
It speaks for itself, adding to this short excerpt, you will find that **aparently** the nazis could have nuked NYC.
For more reading about the theme you can get
    http://www.3dshort.com/nazibomb2/CRITICALMASS .txt
It's a book from Carter Hydrick, former COMPAQ executive, written in 1998 where basically says that Project Manhattan was stuck until they caught a runaway nazi sub carrying enriched uranium and detonators needed for the plutonium bomb.
After reading it, and given the current state of the world, it make me think seriously how much our govts hide and distort from the real facts.

    Greets!
