But we only use p2p for distributing WOW patches and linux distros. Whyw ould be need all this security for what is perfectly legal? Or could it be that the pretence that p2p is used for legal purposes has finally been dropped here at torrentfreak / slashdot?
I don't think there is a problem with paying for online content. I know some hardcore slashdotters think all content should be free (paid for by nebulius *other* people), but I'd happily pay $0.20 to read my fave sunday newspaper online each week. Why not? It costs more than that to get an unsearchable inconvenient dead-tree copy I then have to recycle. The barrier to payment is the payment method, not user resistence. If I could make a one click payment of twenty cents using paypal or similar, I'd happily do it. Its having to find a credit card, and set up yet another account and password which puts people off.
We still don't have decent usable micro-transactions for everyone.
well said. I love the kids who sat on their ass playing halo when guantanomo bay was set up and when the USA invaded iraq on the pretence of finding WMD that didn't exist, and which the USA had sold them anyway, but OMFG LOOK OUT! TAKE TO THE STREETS! because they might have to pay for music like honest people.
Some people have weird priorities and senses of what is right and wrong
Nice attempt at spin, but when you copy music from someone else that isn't swapping, unless you automatically delete your copy. Its copying, and with copyrighted music, its copyright infringement. Renaming it 'swapping' is just a silly piece of spin that holds no water with the law, nor should it.
you really think you are coming accross as anything but fucking retarded? Run along to your own mommy now and cry that someone on slashdot disagrees withg your bullshit kid. Then ask mom for your allowance, as you clearly arent fucking old enough to have got a job and see how threal world works. enjoy modding me down kiddies...
wow. but we are allowed to actually post what we think? right? or are we modded 'flamebat' for not agreeing that "copyright is teh evil!!1111" I know the answer. This place gets mroe like digg every day
Stop whining on about 'teh founders' This isn't star trek Deep Space Nine and the world is not the USA. Not everyone says 'gee' for example. I do not give a flying fuck what a few people hundreds of years ago wrote down. I asked what you thought. Try thinking for yourself.
BTW if I buy a house its my property for ETERNITY.
We as a society are being robbed of our land!*
*actually your 'founders' were pretty good at doing that, as I recall. Not everything they did was nice, justified, fair or reasonable was it?
Why do people here assume EVERYONE who reads slashdot thinks that its a great think if copyright is trampled and content producers get ripped off? I would have thought some people here work in software and would have made the mental connection between respecting IP and their own self interest...
In everyone's interest, I hope TPB get slammed down hard in this case.
Nobody in the US cares what people in sweden do. Fence off TPB so only Swedish residents can access it and I'm sure no media company would give a fuck about it.
answer me this mr pirate party. Who is infringing copyright, TPB or the uploaders?
if its TPB, they should be fined and possibly imprisoned. If its the uploaders, then TPB have a duty to assist law enforcement by providing timestamps and IP addresses of every uploader.
Agreed?
Or do you genuinely believe that copyright is teh evil and we would be better off if nobody who produces content ever got paid?
I suggest you read the various smarmy bullshit TPB frontmen have issued over the years before accusing the prosecutors of being immature. The attitude of "theres nothing the court can do even if they win" and "we dont have any money so its tough" just reeks of petulant children refusing to tidy their room. And one look at the legal threats page is enough to prove that those guys treat the law as a joke they can ignore. Remind me how well that attitdue goes down with judges?
"Fredrik Neij was questioned by lawyers who tried to paint him as the point man for The Pirate Bay operations. Peter Danowsky, who represents the music business, pointed out that Niej owned The Pirate Bayâ(TM)s domain and then showed him a contract he had signed saying that he would oversee operations for the site. Neijâ(TM)s response? âoeBut I didnâ(TM)t read it.â"
If that's the extent of TPBs defence, then they are screwed. I don't think saying 'I didn't read it' really stands up with a judge, ANY judge.
So if you state that TPB are innocent entirely because the downloaders are guilty, then TPB should be ordered to hand over IP addresses of everyone connecting to download the stuff right? because that's just TPB adhering to the law. They can keep their site running forever, and the music companies can systematically prosecute every single downloader.
well said,m but its sad to see that even just stating things as they are gets a 'flamebait' mod here. What ever happened to free speech? surely you slashdotters think that's the true purpose of TPB*, so WTF can't you bare to read the views of people who disagree with you?
They *do* have the ability to remove torrents. They *know* they are linking to copyrighted material, and they *do* refuse to remove those ones.
Simply put, that's case over, guilty as fuck.
Even google respond to DMCA requests. they will happily remove links from search results if you send a DMCA request. This little *fact* escapes the majority of pro-piracy geeks who always wail along the lines of "they will have to sue teh google too!!!!"
Not so.
TPB is the only website that is actively refusing to honour legit DMCA removal requests. They are out on their own with nobody else to compare themselves to.
Wow. So people wanting to be paid for their work is greed, just as badly as people who want to sit on their ass and take that work for free?
No. I think you are dead wrong.
people wanting stuff for free is greed. People wanting to be paid for their work if people choose to enjoy that work is just simple fucking good manners.
Nobody is hungry or ill because they dont have access to spiderman 3 on video. Wanting entertainment for free when you know it costs money to make IS greed.
This is not automated indexing. It is people ripping copyrighted content and manually uploading it into nicely arranged categories for people to browse. There is nothing automatic about the system.
BTW people opposed to copyright infringement are not "people with lost of money". The vast vast vast majority of people who make a living from IP earn the average wage or below. You only hear about the wealthy ones because they are celebrities, and because silly sites like torrentfreak try to define everyone who makes content as "teh evil millionaires!!!!!"
believe it or not, not everyone is rooting for TPB to win. Only people who haven't followed through the logical conclusions of "wanting free stuff" are rooting for them.
eh? Do the news sites give you a list of addresses, price lists and other contact information on how to buy heroin when they run a story about heroin?
TPB doesn't just give you a text file saying "these movies have been pirated". They give you the exact technical information you need to commit an offence.
amazingly some people still have a sense of morals that means they don't want to leech off others to make money. Clearly that's an alien concept among the kind of people who support these Swedish criminals.
But we only use p2p for distributing WOW patches and linux distros. Whyw ould be need all this security for what is perfectly legal?
Or could it be that the pretence that p2p is used for legal purposes has finally been dropped here at torrentfreak / slashdot?
Lets reflect on what you meant.
over 95% of the content on the site is illegal.
Happier?
I don't think there is a problem with paying for online content. hahahahaha
you believe that?
I just checked the top few movies in their top 100. Copyrighted. Wow golly gosh, what a surprise.
Nice attempt at spin, but when you copy music from someone else that isn't swapping, unless you automatically delete your copy.

*sigh*
I'm not going anywhere. I'm sorry if you are pained by the existence of people who don't agree with you kid.
Why do people here assume EVERYONE who reads slashdot thinks that its a great think if copyright is trampled and content producers get ripped off?

"the prosecution acts like a five year old"

common bullshit
Google respond to DMCA removal requests. TPB do not. How many times do people have to be told this?
So if you state that TPB are innocent entirely because the downloaders are guilty, then TPB should be ordered to hand over IP addresses of everyone connecting to download the stuff right?
because that's just TPB adhering to the law. They can keep their site running forever, and the music companies can systematically prosecute every single downloader.
happy?
well said,m but its sad to see that even just stating things as they are gets a 'flamebait' mod here. What ever happened to free speech? surely you slashdotters think that's the true purpose of TPB*, so WTF can't you bare to read the views of people who disagree with you?
*hahaha yeah right
so how about you try and address the point?
They *do* have the ability to remove torrents. They *know* they are linking to copyrighted material, and they *do* refuse to remove those ones.
Simply put, that's case over, guilty as fuck.

Comparing the two is laughable.
wow. what a cutting argument mr coward, and typical given the mental age of TPB supporters.
amazingly some people still have a sense of morals that means they don't want to leech off others to make money.
Clearly that's an alien concept among the kind of people who support these Swedish criminals.
OMFG
are you that simpleminded that you think everyone in every entertainment industry from every country on earth has that lifestyle?
Jesus you need to get out more kid. 99% of people working in software/movies/tv/games work as hard as you for the same or less than you earn.
But hey, why bother with the facts when they get in the way of assholes expecting to get free stuff right?
