Sorry dude, they have 3M pixel cameras with optical zooms in cell phones here in Japan NOW. Oh, and PDA functions as well...and err I should mention MPEG4 video (to SD card) recording as well.
I guess you'll get them next year... maybe.
I am working for one of the biggest Japanese Software Companies here in Tokyo (clue: world's fastest super computer) and the development phase of our current project is being outsourced to China simply because of cost. Not only that, they have been using Chinese development houses for some time, it seems. It make take a while for them to catch up in some areas, but the big companies are making the switch already.
Mediocre Troll. Rather than trying to judge their efforts by your own (inaccurate) personal definition of a spaceship, how about you try seeing it for what it is?. I am sure there are folk here who wouldn't consider it a spaceship unless it had Federation markings...
"Its an aircraft with a rocket motor attached"
- You mean like the space shuttle?
"Real spaceships can't use wings to slow themselves down and manuouveaure(sic) because there is no air to do it in!"
- Wow, the things you learn... You don't think it's too much of a stretch to add attitude jets to SpaceshipOne?
"...whole enterprise to me smacks more of someones ego than anything practical"
- So you really, really cannot comprehend this as a stepping stone to greater things?. You actually think the only acceptible first demo would have been a fully-staffed ship doing a few orbits then a nice firey re-entry?
100km is the acknowledged and regulated boundary of space, ok?. If you accept that "ship" is in any case a funny thing to call a flying machine, well I am sure you will have no trouble seeing that it is a spaceship.
To be honest, no-one will care if you call it a space-ship, -craft, -plane or whatever, but it has travelled into space. Live with it.
You never even heard of the X-prize until last week, did you?.
When I was here in 1991 the cycle was about six months for consumer electronics. Now for high-volume things like mobile phones, it's hard to discern cycles at all. There is just a constant stream of models.
Feeb. Read, study, learn. Can you name three terrorist groups that have NOTHING to do with Islam?. I can, and I bet most of the slashdot community can too.
"Orbiting Mecca" would be the last thing you ever orbit.
.... the is the first you've heard of the X-prize?
As the other posters above say - check the scaled site and see how close they are. Really its just a matter of burning longer.
Exactly. I'm in Tokyo too and this service and many others have been available for quite some time. There is actually a psuedo-GPS system that uses cell triangularisation or similar that gives your exact location on a map.
Obviously some geek (can we all guess where he lives..hmmm?) is unaware that this stuff is more than available, but works well.
Sheesh what a waste of time.
I live in Tokyo, and have enjoyed my 12Mbps ADSL for over a year now. I would love one of those new 20Mbps Yahoo bb services, but after finally chatting to one of the gals pushing those free modem packaged on me I discovered that I could not use it. Why? Well we never got a phone service connected as its too exxy. We use mobiles only. There is a wire connected to our phone sockets but thats just for the ADSL. Yahoo requires an existing phone connection. Damn...
Apparently the 20Mbps service has connects more often approaching the theoretcal max, whereas my older 12Mbps connection connects at just over 3Mbps most of the time...
One last thing for those grumpy folks from the US making excuses as to why you are down the list. Excuses = poor sportsmanship. There will always be advantages to being a small densely populated country. There are also many disadvantages. Get over it.
Yep. Why is it that the /. MODS are the ones that so often post dupes?
That has to be a typo...

Yes - everything I have read about Edison tends to support this. Sahme he is remembered by the average person above Tesla.
