Assuming that this requires a standard interface for virtual machines - isn't it the same as saying, install brand X OS on every PC on planet earth. Let all the versions be compatible. And let all these systems be diskless and have a common storage.
What's so radical about this idea ? All the researchers are trying to do is figuring out how to build homogenity over the current heterogeneous setup of connected computers. Why not use Java - use get a desktop, you get security (not very high grade, but still) - why re-invent the wheel.
Its very important that the GNOME community develops a elegant framework for developers, so that normal developers can design applications for GNOME. Currently, the framework is difficult to understand with documentation adding to the woes.
The community should focus more on Ajunta, and make it a superior IDE like Visual Studio.Net.
If people can build simple GNOME applications using Wizards, something like with Visual Basic.. it will give a great boost to the environment.
Java may be promoted for development because already there is an established army of Java developers... GCJ can be to avoid java speed-pitfalls... so a java subset may be used.
In short, the focus should be on developers...we need a compiled and interpereted language for the environment... Java and Perl are good contenders.
My worst job in the disguise of software development was typing from a book and then converting it into HTML pages:-(
The OCR process had very poor quality of output... because the books were much used.

IIIT is no where equivalent to MIT. Infact it is called I-square-It. It's just another institute offering commercial training for computers.
The submitter has confused IITs, the pride of India, with this institute.
