There's the notion that the information on wikipedia can be editted for anyone, and referencing wikipedia sometimes brings a smile.

I always wondered why Wikipedia does not ask known experts for article certification. For example, you as the co-founder of wikipedia could certify that a section of the wikipedia wiki article (or the entire wiki article for wikipedia) was correct. Maybe you could even pay in some cases.

Has this ever been considered, or do you have any other ideas on how to get wikipedia to be received as a irrefutable source of information?

    According to the article:

"Each server system will need a systems administrator, who will be the point of contact for any technical issues, and who will be able to change and manage the programs to meet the needs of his or her customers in the building.

People interested in becoming a systems administrator will be able to do their training online and, once they have been certified, receive a license from the government that will enable them to get a bank loan for equipment and installation."

Developers have no problems hacking their favorite environment, linux, windows, whatever. It's the hardware that counts. Personally I'd like a development laptop that would be:
    • - Very high resolution
    • - 4:3 format
    • - mate screen, enough of that bright crap
    • - Powerfull CPU and RAM
    • - No internal DVD drive, swap that for an additional HD or Battery
    • - present that in several options, from 12 to 17 inch. Developers do travel sometimes, and they love to take their gear with them.
    • - a very good keyboard, with decent feedback. IBM M-Type would be great
    • - Button to disable trackpad.
    • - A good docking station to hook up external monitors, keyboard+mouse, etc.
    • - Easily removable everything, battery, ram, HD, etc.

Do that and I buy one.

And why exactly a predictable film can't be great?

I quite agree that it doesn't deserve so many awards, and for me it's a 7/10 (didn't like how they switched from explaining how he knew the answers to the love story), but your points are highly debatable. Good acting doesn't make a good film (see Doubt), neither any of the other components in separate, it's the sum of all parts that makes it, and they don't have to be all good. It helps, but it's not mandatory.

Oscar awards are an expression of how the academy sees film, not public in general. I follow oscar awards for quite some time, and the main reason is too see films that I otherwise would ignore.

Being a Gentoo user for nearly 3 years, I must disagree with this. Use stage1 _only_ if you want do customize something between stage1 and stage3. Otherwise just save youself a lot of time and install stage3. After all, in some time you have already recompiled all your system to new versions anyway..

  9. Re:But Gentoo? on Gentoo Games · · Score: 1

Gentoo is just a system for stupid people with too much time on their hands.

So, Red Hat is just a system for incredibly smart ppl that have no time to waste? What I find amusing about your comment is that you claim you are super smart, and installed Gentoo twice! Also, did you know that you don't have to upgrade, just because there's a new version? And that you can choose not to install pre-released alpha versions?

Finally, they can't even get portage right -- it is one of the most unintuitive systems ever created. Why not make it more interactive and customizable? It's about as painful to change the options for building an app as it is with a source RPM. Unless you invest hours in reading crappy documentation and hacking portage scripts, you get all the disadvantages of using RPMs (lack of configurability) combined with the disadvantages of compiling from source (time waste).

Hmm.. now you say that portage is unintuitive. Maybe, for ppl who can't do a "man emerge". I guess the rpm -ivh is so much more intuitive. Also, changing the options for an ebuild, usually you don't even have to edit it, all the options came from the USE system variable. About the documentation, even if you hate Gentoo (and if you do I don't have anything agains it), you have to admit that Gentoo has a very good documentation. Give me another distro with good documentation to compare please. What you can say about documentation is that is very few. yes, gentoo is also very new.

What the hell is wrong with just using a normal distribution like Mandrake or Debian, people? Does gedit really need all the optimization it can get from compiling it for a P4 with SSE2 extensions enabled? What if you decide to upgrade to an Athlon?

There's nothing wrong with other distron. You use whatever you think is better for you. What is wrong is comments like yours. If there's anything wrong with ppl using Mandrake or Debian, why must be with gentoo? Ppl are free to chose whatever feets their needs, not accepting that doesn't give you the right to just say it's crap.Gedit it's just an app, and it doesn't take that much to compile. Try comparing the same machine, staring KDE with gentoo and some other i586 or i686 binary and see the difference for yourself. If you don't see a difference, than don't use it and save a lot of time. If I change the processor? well, you're correct. I'll have to rebuilt the system. And how many times you do that? (you can allways use distcc in case you have several systems around, but still your last point is right. You have to rebuild the system.)

combine that with 3 versions of winex (pure cvs, stable cvs snapshot and official transgaming stable version) and you can go to a lan party and kick ass without rebooting =)
