    I'm surprised that conspiracy theorists on Slashdot didn't blame gnome team of faking the intrusion because they could not meet the deadline for the release.

    But if you RTFA, the GNOME team did not state how their system were compromised. It could be due to the software flaw, but it could also be due to bad settings or cracked password.

    MSDN subscription doesn't count since they come with restrictions on use, just like the "free" version of windows you may find on the net.

    If windows came with SQL and Exchange server, Office suite and various other add-ons and softwares, it'll be easily as big. But that doesn't matter since you cannot download non-trial version of Windows from MS in the first place.

    The problem is with the mindset of most endusers.

    I've enabled automatic updates friends' and co-workers' computers and they still don't go through installing patches even with ballon reminders. And MS does not even have automatice update for Office products.

    Because MS products are like crack. Why do you think that MS gives generous pricing to schools, teachers, and students? They want you to get hooked while you are young.

    Seriously, we use Outlook at work and even though I presented cheaper/safer alternatives, they've all been turned down.

    When ever there's an IP related article, majority of the posters post about the evils of IP. Yet, in this article, slashdotters are not supporting the reduction of staff at the Bell Labs even though BL leads the way in generating the "evil" IPs for the corporation.

    I learned my share of bad words while in school. TV is just one of the outlet where your children may learn bad words.

    I would not be suprised that the web would be the next target for censorship because there will parents out there who may feel that they need more time to watch the Superbowl then setting up content filters on their kid's computers. It will be much easier for them to write to their congressman requesting that they ban porn, slashdot, or any other offending websites.

    What I'm trying to convey here is that one party is not really better then the other one. For example, if Democrats where in power, there still will a different type of censorship. For example, they may mandate that you must use the term "African American" instead of "black" when referring to a race.

    Let's suppose that posts that you make offends me (I'm not saying that I don't like your posts, just using your account as an example). I can either lobby Slashdot to ban mikehoskins account or just set up my filter to filter your posts. I'd go with the filtering option because it does the trick without denying everyone from viewing your posts.

    As for the Superbowl, the network didn't plan to have Janet flash millions of people.
