Slashdot peeps generally tend to be well educated and be very possessive of their rights. American /.ers tend to protect their freedoms, witness the reaction to the PATRIOT Act.

I'm not too sure about "well educated" part. Many Slashdotters are quick to blame the Republicans even though it may be no better with the Democrats. For example, the PATRIOT Act passed the Senate by 98 to 1 vote (1 did not vote). And while the right wingers may censor items that are against "family values", left wingers have no trouble censoring items that are not "politically correct".

Personally, I think the reason why Howard Stern is getting punished is because people who says "I never listened to Stern and think he's the scum of the earth" tend to write more to their Reps than people like you who value freedom of speech.

While the policy hasn't been changed, I could put my tinfoil hat and say that if the Democrats control the Congress, expect to see "minority protection" legislation in the next year or so to give the FCC the power to regulate cable.

I guess you'd better list me as a foe since I'm a Republican as well. BTW, I registered as a Republican back in 2000 to support Sen. McCain. I also joined the College Republicans, where its members were planning on voting for Bush by default. I've talked them into giving Sen. McCain a chance and they agreed to join me to hear him speak when he has planning to come to town.

I also had many friends who were in the College Democrats that were Bradley supports. Bradley was my second choice so I organized a bipartisan effort between the College Republicans and Democrats (wasn't too hard since most of us were moderats) for on-campus voter registration drive. Sadly, both McCain and Bradley lost the primaries, and no, I did not vote for either Bush or Gore.

I'm not planning on voting for Bush this year, but I may end up voting for Kerrey as "lesser of two evils" depending on what he says on the debate.

Personally, I think that no person of sound mind can also sterotype so blantly, but just disagreeing with me doesn't necessarily make you wrong (although I reserve the right to disagree), and thus will not have you or anyone else on my foe list. Life's too short to be closed minded, IMHO.

As for the CBS issue, Killian's former secretary stated that she didn't type the memo, but the memo did reflect how Killian felt about the Bush, so I see that as the damaging to the Bush camp. Also, Bill Burkett, who gave the memo to CBS, is well known Bush hater.

The reason why I'm requesting proof is that if we start to make accusations without proof, we'll be no better than Bush with his hunt for the so-far-nonexistant WMD. By his logic, since Iraq had WMD program in the past, kicked UN inspectors out, and hates US, Iraq use have WMD that they'll unleash WMD on US.
