This "new feature" has actually been on their list since they put the actual Vista feature lists on www.microsoft.com...they just decided to wait until now to bring it to everyone's attention...

  2. Re:Enough Updaters? on Vista To Be Updated Without Reboots · · Score: 2, Informative

Why multiple updaters? Here's a brief description of each(names abbreviated in some cases to save my fingers)... Microsoft Update - Lets you download updates for Windows and MS Office all at once... Windows Update - Lets you download just updates for Windows itself... MS Windows SUS - A corporate version of Windows Update, that lets the network admin decide which updates get pushed to machines in the domain, and all client machines refer to that server for updates instead of Windows Update MSI - The "standard" installer used by most Windows programs when you first install them MS SMS - The old version of SUS (see above)

  3. What the article doesn't say... on VOIP, The Traditional Telephony Killer? · · Score: 2, Informative

...is if the VoIP that companies are switching to is for internal only, or actually using VoIP to talk to the world... Case in point: A regional retail chain that I worked for until recently had several new locations open this year. All of these new locations had Avaya VoIP phones (desk phones and cordless, using the WiFi access points installed for other use as well). Along with an Avaya box that prioritizes the VoIP traffic over any other network traffic, we never had an audio quality issue in the time that I was there. Now, when we called outside of the building, it got sent out through regular copper...

Except that, at least in the latest version, Ad-aware doesn't delete all cookies, but only ones for domains that are considered "tracking" cookies...I use Ad-Aware on a regular basis to clean up machines, and I've never had a case where a password was forgotten...

  5. PS3 Controller on PlayStation 3 Unveiled · · Score: 1

Looking at the image of the controller, it actually looks similar to the Logitech Action series of controllers for the PS2/XBox, with only the "fins" on either side being longer. I think, like any controller, the real test will be when you get it in your hands...so I wouldn't count it out quite yet...

  6. Virus != Vulnerability on Microsoft To Offer Virus Defense · · Score: 2, Insightful

Now, I'm no more of an M$ fan than anyone else here, but from reading most of the comments on this story so far, it looks like everyone is thinking a virus is the same as a vulnerability. While some recent virii have exploited vulnerabilities in Windows to spread, there are still many out there that get around the old-fashioned way, by posing as a legitimate program and/or attaching their code to existing programs. This is a problem with any OS, not just Windows. Short of keeping an checksum database for every executable file(including DLLs, OCXs, etc) which is updated by the install program, there is no way that Windows can, by itself, know if a program has been modified legitimately or otherwise.(The whole checksum thing just happens to be what a lot of AV programs do, but anyway...)

  7. Re:wireless internet? on Nintendo DS Review and Internal Pictures · · Score: 1

I remember Nintendo saying early on that the GBA slot could be used for perhipherals, so I don't see where it could be an issue...it could just be that the emulator/chip(since we don't know which) that runs the GBA games does not recieve the "Hey, the lid just got closed" signal, as it would not know how to handle it anyway...
