What's next, the bombing of an innocent Middle Eastern country just for the hell of it?

You're taking what I said out of context.

My statement indicated that Americans enjoyed being able to carry out the actions of criminals. They like living a lifestyle of crime and being able to have sex whenever they want with any hooker they want, and then getting the chance to beat them up afterwards.

In Mario Brothers, the graphics were child-like and the plumber brothers just went through pipes and smushed plants. It was all very kid-like and innocent fun.

Vice City is nothing at all like that. It's rude, crude, and downright degrading to women and policemen alike.

I stand by my original statement. Anyone who has a sick fetish for being a crime boss should be tossed into jail.

Like I said earlier, it's no wonder you are all such privacy nuts -- you're busy at home raping and killing on your videogame systems.

  3. The reason Vice City isn't very complex on GTA: Vice City Sells 8.5 Million Copies in 3 Months · · Score: -1, Flamebait

The reason Vice City isn't very complex yet requires such expensive graphics cards is because it's primarily written in the C programming language.

C's biggest difficulty, as we all know, is the fact that it is by far one of the slowest languages in existance, especially when compared to more modern languages such as Java and C#. Although the reasons for this are varied, the main reasons seems to be the way C requires a programmer to laboriously work with chunks of memory.

Sorry, but requiring a programmer to manipulate blocks of memory is a tedious way to program. This was satisfactory back in the early days of coding, but then again, so were punchcards. By using what are called "pointers" a C programmer is basically requiring the computer to do three sets of work rather than one. The first time requires the computer to duplicate whatever is stored in the memory space "pointed to" by the pointer. The second time requires it to perform the needed operation on this space. Finally the computer must delete the duplicate set and set the values of the original accordingly.

Clearly this is a horrendous use of resources and the chief reason why C is so slow. When one looks at a more modern (and a more serious) programming language like Java, C# or - even better - Visual Basic that lacks such archaic coding styles, one will also note a serious speed increase over C.

I think a re-write would be very advantageous for this game and could let it sell even more copies. 8.5 million games sold only means that marketing did their job; it doesn't necessarily mean that the people who bought it ended up enjoying it.

You think Apple sucks because they have realised that the traditional MacOS has come to the end of the line and instead of rehashing old rubbish as MS and Intel have been doing, they have gone to great lengths to write a new OS based on highly regarded kernal and system, whereas MS has rehashed NT and, as they usually do, added more and more (mostly unnecessary) features.

You think they suck because they base their computer and OS designs on what their customers want, unlike MS which designs its own ideas and forces them on its customers (HTML email, VBS, ASP and now the new IE5, with it's different rendering of web pages and 96dpi images) because, being the market leader (due to great marketing, not great design), people have no choice.

You think Apple hardware sucks because it uses parts compatible with PC's, despite the fact that Apple hardware components have (for the most part) always been designed by other manufacturers, merely this time they have selected less unique hardware, because this is what their customers wanted and Apple customers are willing to spend extra for this.

You all think Apple sucks because they build computers up to a quality, not down to a price. They suck especially because they took the bold step of designing harware that simple, straightforward and attractive to alot of people (iMac), and in great defiance of the PC market, sells very well. More insulting are the PC owners who discovered their friends' iMacs ran faster.

Oh, and you think Apple sucks most of all because it forces PC owners to realise that they are MS and Intel lemmings - in no control of the chipset's and OS'es they use, as what they do is controlled by both these companies. If it weren't for Apple, AMD and others, everyone, with the exception of companies that can afford expensive un*x workstations, would be complete slaves to MS and Intel.

This is like saying Mercedes Benz sucks because they design innovative cars who's designs influenced car designs for many decades.

Maybe Apple should apologise for shattering people's ideas of what a computer should be.

They're over and done with, and have been, for nearly half a decade now.

After lingering problems with OS 9, delayed completion of OS X, and most importantly the stagnation of processor development for PowerPC computers, most Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) for major companies have all but written off Apple Computers.

Sure, you can accuse this of throwing the baby out with the bathwater, but the bottom line is essentially that Apple has failed to compete on a purely technological basis. Their machinery does look very nice, and they really cleaned up the X interface for their Quartz window manager experience built-in to OS X, but that doesn't mean it can execute Photoshop filters any faster. Some of the more serious graphic artists, therefore, have begun to phase out their use of the PowerPC platform and have already high-tailed it over to the Pentium side of the fence with new 3GHz Dell computers.

This chip is great, and I'm not arguing that. Go read the specs at ArsTechnica if you want, I've already got them nearly memorized. But this and no chip will ever save Apple from their rut.

No, they will always stay in business because they have a niche with people who would turn down a free Monet painting because it doesn't match their sofa.
