It NEVER hurts to have the best performance.

Sure, both nvidia and ATI's latest cards will play all current games at great framerates, but once you start to pile on things like high resolution, anti-aliasing, antisotropic filtering... you need all the performance you can get. Even these newest cards probably won't be able to play FarCry perfectly at 1600x1200 16xAA 16xAF with full details...

    More performance is never superfluous.

Buying a card just because you "prefer" that particular brand is stupid. There's nothing wrong with brand loyalty, but true enthusiasts will always go with the best product.

I was an Nvidia "fanboy" for quite a while, until their cards started to suck. My latest video card purchase was a Radeon 9800 pro, and I couldn't be happier.

Have you guys ever stopped and thought about how must punishment your poor keyboard takes every day? Computer components come and go, cards fail, monitors burn out, CPUs die, but keyboards truely stand the test of time. I've had my $10 Logitech keyboard for years, and it's still typing away, strong as ever, while just about every other computer component I have owned has been upgraded or replaced.

Imagine how many keys you have typed on your keyboard throughout its life. Imagine how much frustration you have taken out on it during a rough match of Quake 3 or Starcraft. Imagine how many food particles and hairs have been caught in its grasp. Pretty amazing that it's still clicking away, eh?

Yes, I agree that sports are important. I think it's good for all children to have some exposure to them - they help build teamworking skills, they teach them healthy competitive skills, and they're good for the mind and body.

I'm just disappointed that the children who choose to define their life through sports are considered "cooler" or "better adjusted" than the kid who takes more interest in, say, science or computers. In my opinion, our society has its prioities was screwed up. Realistically, most of us know that cognitive ability is going to be far more valuable in a person's life than the ability to kick a ball, but still the jocks get all the praise and admiration.

Yes, yes you are a leftwing whiner :) Why are you so perturbed at the prospect of being "identifiable" by, say, the authorities, at all times? What is your gripe with carrying around a driver's license? Please, help me understand. I'm a student, and I'm more or less forced to carry a student ID around with me - it gets me into my building, gets me my meals, and even lets me pay for the occasional grocery item. I can't imagine letting the necessity of the ID get to me - I accept it as a fact of life, and I realize that it makes my life a lot easier if a person can scan a card and immediately know who I am. In fact, I love my student ID, and I fear my release into the "real world", where not everything is just a quick card-scan away. If my university could scan my retinas instead of having to ask for my ratty old card, life would be that much easier. Not to mention totally sweet. So, yeah. What's your gripe with identification?

I think it's really sad that a young person is classified as an "outcast" or a "loser" if he doesn't choose to define his life through sports.
