As the others said, bad idea. Last year I went from Sweden to a conference in Italy with 2 laptops (my trusty iBook and a Wintel PC I needed for very specific software). Back in the Italian security check at Naples' airport, the security spots I have 2 laptops in my bags (through X-ray). They didn't care about anything else, put me on the side and the security agent asked me:
- you have 2 laptops ?
- yes !
- can you open and start them ?
- sure !
And there I go, she looks strangely at me (of course she doesn't make the difference between a Mac and Thinkpad) but it looks so natural to me that she gets back to checking other people.
No, I wasn't meaning that, Dutch people don't say they're from "punt en-el", Brits don't say they're from "dot you-kay", Germans from "Punkt day-eh", as you did here. That's what I was commenting and found funny.
If the iPod is a good product as just an MP3 player, then if we jam in a video player, word processor, fishing tackle box, and dog whistle, then it's got to be a better product...
Yay ! I didn't know MS was from Switzerland ! Or maybe not, those knives are actually useful.
point taken. However, I fail to see how doing what you promised during a campaign is yielding to terrorists, especially since the people who elected you were never for sending these troups anyway. I honestly don't think that keeping those troups will change anything. The terrorists already won, unfortunately, last thursday.
In addition, imagine if Zapatero, after winning the election, had said: "well, I promised you I will remove the troups, but since we've been bombed I'll leave them in Iraq instead, to show these naughty boys who we are". Not only would this be adding lies to people who've already been lied too, but that would be totally stupid and very macho thinking. Those soldiers would be much more useful at home securing the railway stations, airports and other public places (like we have in France since 1994 when there are risks).
For the terrorists, they've already hinted long before on the countries you cite as targets. What should those countries do ? Take all the troups they can and go invade all the Middle-East, just to show that terrorists didn't win and they're the stronger ones ?
It's not that I think France is an example for the world, but for terrorism, I think the country managed it very well in the 90s. We had bombings in Paris from the Algerian islamic group GIA (Armed Islamic Group). What did France ? Did they try invading Algeria because the Algerian government couldn't manage the GIA threat or keep it inside ? No, they just eradicated the roots of the GIA in France, and still managed to support the corrupt Algerian gov't (nothing to be proud about, btw), which was the reason France was taken as a target from the beginning. (btw even though I'm French by birth and culture, I have middle-east ascendants)
Now if you want my opinion on keeping the spanish troops in Iraq, well, I actually think it would be a good thing for Iraqi people if they'd stay there, as well as the Brits, until the situation clears. Unfortunately being there at the same time as the US troops is just useless at that point. It's just like waving a red flag that says "please bomb me". Zapatero is indeed smart in saying that the spanish troops will stay in Iraq only if the whole situation is handled by the UN. (For now and until June, they stay there anyway).
Sorry boy, get your facts, read the analyses of the results in Spain: Aznar and the right were kicked in the ass rightfully for having outright lied TWICE in a year to the people that elected them happily in 2000. First time was about Iraq, second was calling all the press to swear they were sure it wasn't Al Qaeda but Basque independentists from ETA that organised the Madrid bombings.
Expect the same to happen to the guy sitting 10, Downing Street in London, even though he's from the left. The issue here is that people don't trust liars to govern them, especially if it's just to please the US warmongers. And lying about bombings and wars is much more serious than lying about blowjobs.

Stripe only in Sweden and Denmark (though it will change to chip in Denmark in 2005) as well.
You should really get out of your country a bit. Here in Europe most products have labels in 3, 6 or even 9 languages, sometimes more. It's not required by any law, but the manufacturer would be silly to have different packaging for every country. It costs. I doubt that the law changes much in Canada. Besides, you're not the only country in the world with several official languages. There are 2 in Belgium, 4 in Switzerland, several in Spain, etc. Is it so hard to ignore the french labels ?
And good luck getting separated from Quebec. I'd like to see that, and see how you southern brother will absorb you like a BigMac.
Yeah, Quebec is so much scared to be bankrupt that they almost voted twice for independence. And if it's so hard having Quebec inside Canada, why don't you just exclude them or get the english speaking provinces "independent" ?
"I hate the french because we were forced to learn french in high school blabla". Grow up.
And your comment about trying to speak the native language is racist. Since it's been determined that it's racist for Americans to expect Mexican immigrants to speak English instead of Spanish, then it's just as racist for the French or anyone else to expect Americans to speak anything other then our American form of English. Therefore, by that logic, you are a racist.
hey, you troll, by your standards, pretty much the whole world is racist. Having lived as a foreigner in Sweden and now Denmark, there's a huge difference in the way you're seen if you speak english or swedish/danish to the natives. I basically only speak english when I'm very angry or when things need to be extremely clear. And when I go to Germany, I try to speak bad german instead of good english, because there's no way you get the same interaction. France is not different in that respect.
No, Apple products are awfully expensive because of the policy of Apple Europe. In general, computer prices are higher than in the US, but in no way as much as with Apple products. Usually Apple products are about the same price in different european countries. It's really a PITA.
Yeah probably these french musicians are suing Apple in Thailand over a french law. And the court ruling from Thailand will be applicable in all African countries.
I don't think Apple tries to make a stand, really. They were probably out the radar or something. Or it might be that music players were not yet seen as "blank media" the same way as CD-ROMS.
And please stop that with USA companies not having sympathy in France. French people don't care so much about that. Ford cars are bought the same way as in any other country here. You might have some bad publicity for Nike, Coke or Microsoft, as everywhere else, but the products sell well. France is the country were MacDonalds makes the best revenues and develops most in Europe, even with the "Quick" (a belgian hamburger company) competition. And Harley-Davidson is still a legendary motorcycle company, not a "bloody-yankee" bikes maker. No really, I think all of this is childish. The french law is the same for all companies operating in France, American or not.

oh come on ! I learned to drive in Paris, I quite often park there and I never left the parking brake off ! And none of my parisian friends do it. Driving in Paris is not more special or different than in most European cities (and I've been in quite some). People are just a bit more energetic.
In some places, such as Northern Ireland, newly qualified drivers are required to wear special plates on their cars to alert other drivers of their rookie status, further ensuring road safety.
I believe it's getting pretty standard in the EU, though maybe not completely. For example Spain, Italy, Sweden, France, the NL have that rule or something similar. However I think not in Germany. But maybe it has changed.
This is one argument against the Mac that I never understood.
I actually remember one of the first time I saw 3.5" floppies was at a friends' PC or Amiga, I can't remember well.
The stupid thing I did is when I removed the floppy while the computer was reading it. Of course if you do that too often you end up destroying the data on the floppy. You might even destroy the drive.
I think asking the computer to eject the disk properly is a bright idea indeed. The idea introduced with the Mac was to try to avoid the user misusing the computer, and that is very clever in designing any technical device. Plus I don't think you loose anything in terms of "control".
And really, if you had already crashed the the system, you would have to restart it anyway, right ? So, just restart it and push the mouse button at the same time, the floppy ejects and voila ! No need for a paperclip.

Right. Don't worry, it's not like I didn't notice we're way OT here.
And what about that ????
And we have seen nothing yet. In a few years, MS will present the VideoSPOT watch, so that you can watch the news directly on your wrist. Pfff...

Yay ! I didn't know MS was from Switzerland ! Or maybe not, those knives are actually useful.

Well, we have no proof it wasn't done ! However it hasn't been published...
Computer usage
/. or do web browsing before sleeping, it actually helps me getting asleep much faster !
Funny though I usually read

And no Person holding any Office of Profit
Note: Office does not specifically say POLITICAL office...
How did the US constituents know that Gates would hold an MS Office that would make a lot of profits ?

I never understand people who have to lean over and look behind; you just can't see as well.
Yes that's true but you can't see pedestrians coming if you only look in the mirrors (I'm thinking about parking lots at the mall, for example).
In some places, such as Northern Ireland, newly qualified drivers are required to wear special plates on their cars to alert other drivers of their rookie status, further ensuring road safety.
