  5. This is the right response on This Isn't the Petition Response You're Looking For · · Score: 1

LOL! Simply, I like this. It's good to see some good humour from a Government in answering in the spirit of the petition. What I want to know is when will they make a start on warp, gravitic or inertialess drives ...

  6. Re:You know the state of film is lame when... on 10 Best S/F Films That Never Existed · · Score: 1
I can only agree with you here. I still find this classic series to be an excellent read. The only danger that I can foresee is the one that Lord of the Rings successfully avoided i.e. that everyones take on the books is different and a film may end up pleasing no-one.

In this vein, others that would be interesting would be Smith's "The Skylark Series" as also mentioned, and for humour, Harry Harrisons "Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers".

I Have to agree with the previous posters. I still read them when I have the time

Do any of you remember his other series, such as the Skylark series, and other novels? He always liked to start off small / "relatively low tech" and then up the ante

  9. Good idea but I fear obstacles on Instant Concert CDs? · · Score: 1
I guess this could work, if the lawyers and other usual suspects don't get involved and stifle this initiative.

  10. Re:How about the Alien mod for Doom? on Why First Person Shooters Beat Text Adventure Games · · Score: 1

I agree with this comment regarding the Alien Mod. The author used not only pacing, but a very good mix of sounds, audio sequences ("watch that corner...") and music. Junior

  11. Works ok on the German lycos site on Lycos: Can't Get There From Here · · Score: 2

After not noticing that I'd been automatically redirected to the German Lycos site, and finding that I could find German Yahoo, Infoseek and so on, I wondered what all the fuss was about.

I then confirmed the "humorous messages" effect by going here US Lycos.

Are the people in America having fun, or are they being misguided.

Such players are slowly appearing. A German company is offering a hi fi player to add to your other hi-fi components.

The single CD device costs 363 Euros, the CD changer version (3 CD's) costs 414 Euros

I might just buy one. Still, I wish they'd do a portable one though...
