Given that it's Imperial College and they're going to be teaching by hologram... I wonder if this ( http://www.oocities.org/~speci... ) might be one of the professors.
It sounds like your client may have a hard time dealing with something like Wireshark or any of the other port/traffic monitoring methods I've seen mentioned. I'll suggest looking at OpenDNS as a way to give some protection against "unsavory" sites as well as some degree of reporting in their "Stats" section.
It has nothing to do with my beliefs. Here's why I do it:
1) I like having a job.
2) Part of my job is making sure we comply with CIPA http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/cipa.html
3) CIPA says we have to filter "obscene pictures"
You, Janet Jackson and I may think breasts are not obscene, but I know there are people who do.
I have to say that this is really nice. I just added explicit.bing.net to the list of filtered content in our SonicWall and then did an images search for breasts on bing.com with safe-search off and the images that displayed were not what I would consider porn. Many of the images, if not most, were not displayed. I will feel much better about allowing access to bing.com for our students now. Can't believe I'm saying this...but "Good job, Microsoft!"
Even though I've never used it, I can say that from years of reading the K12LTSP listserve, BackupPC has always been mentioned as a good way to backup multiple machines. It supports Windows and Linux and you can browse the archives via a web browser.
I can second FreeNAS. Give it a spin on a test box to make sure you like it (it's pretty easy to configure it you're comfortable with Linux). The school system I work for has built a couple of 4.4 TB NAS boxes for under US $2200 each to be used at different schools and plan to build more.
Here are the current usage stats on the one we built about 4 months ago:
Great! So do we now have to worry about what our neighbors are going to be doing with their nuclear waste? Is it a turnkey job, so Toshiba will assume responsibility for all cleanup after the plant has spent its fuel? Or is the waste not a problem because they're using Lithium? The article is much too short on details for me to get excited about this.
What does this have to do with the father? What does this have to do with which sperm gets into the egg?
It's my understanding that sperm with the Y are slightly faster swimmers, (maybe because they're a little bit lighter) so if the couple has sex the day before ovulation occurs then the chances are they will have a boy. However, to balance things out, the X sperm are much longer lived. So if the couple had sex 3-4 days before ovulation, by the time the egg arrives, all the Y sperm have expired (they last about 24 hrs) and there are only X sprem left to fertilize the egg and the couple will get a girl.
Applying this to the original article, I would say this seems to say that nurses, teachers, etc have sex more often than engineers do. It may even be possible to say that engineers only have sex when their wives, due to having ovulated and being fertile, are extra horny and initiate sex.
It is for this reason that I don't think computers should be a substantial part of an elementary school curriculum. I work as a technician for a school system, and *most* of the time the computer is not used as a tool. Rather, it is used as entertainment (or as the software companies would like you to believe - edutainment!)
I don't have, nor do I want to have, a computer at home for my children to use right now. I'm much happier reading to them and watching them learn to read. That will pay much higher dividends in their futures as far as performance in school goes. Finally, I'm glad to see there are people calling into question the idea that everyone needs their own personal computer to get anywhere in life.
If Apple does come out with their own two button mouse, will it be available as an option OR is it going to replace the one button mouse completely? Are we looking at the demise of the one button mouse?
Not being a good student of chemistry, I can't tell you that yes teaine and caffeine are definitely chemically the same (or not.) I was assuming, based on the fact that there are two different words (even though the chemicals engender similar physical responses) that the two chemicals are in some way different. Also, some of the websites I looked at seemed to imply that the two substances are different,"aiming to produce tea without teaine, cafe without cafeine, etc?" else, why make the distinction?
Well, teas don't have any caffeine. Only coffees have caffeine. Teas have teaine... Not that it changes the argument, just the word. It is true that some teas have lots of teaine, which affects people in much the same way as caffeine.
As for health effects, teas are often good for you too, due to their anti-oxidants.

Hilarious. Nicely done sir. I can't believe your attempt at levity was modded as Interesting instead of Funny.

Colonel Sandurz: Yes!
President Skroob: That's amazing. I've got the same combination on my luggage.

Nothing to see here... move along.
