Some have opined that they believe Apple will get into the cellphone business when their exclusive deal with cingular ends. I could see Apple offering 2 plans... $99 a month unlimited calling or 9 cents per minute
Yesterday we find out that Apple Inc and Apple Corps have settled their legal differences. Today we get a letter from Steve telling us why the big 5 record labels are bad.
Could it be that Apple could be looking to become record label #6 and offering its music DRM-free? Inquiring minds want to know.
I'm of the opinion that Apple should make a web kiosk account a standard option of it's OS. This would be perfect for my parents. As soon as they log in it goes to full screen Safari. No Finder, just webmail, surfing and the like.
This almost sounds like what Google OS would be...no desktop, just browser.
Why don't you just say pedophile? I can't believe political correctness has filtered down to the point where we don't want to offend the pedophiles! God forbid we make anyone uncomfortable about their perversion.
The best solution would be for Steve and Johnny Ive to design an Apple branded in-dash head unit that major car manufacturers could offer as an optional accessory for new cars. It should have 802.11n and be able to sync wirelessly to your home computer while it sits in the driveway or garage. No iPod to plug in, It IS an iPod that happens to be semi-permanantly mounted in the dash.
Once Apple takes over the car-space and has a micro computer and Wi-Fi in every new car...imagine the possibilities!
Simply deleting an.app from the Applications folder is not enough. Software update is able to quickly determine what software it needs to update by looking at the receipts in the Library/Receipts/ folder. If you delete the receipt for iTunes in there, Software Update will no longer check for updates for iTunes.
You are wrong. Most people WANT to do more with their computer but can't because it is running windows. So instead they just play games and let it collect dust.
I've heard many friends of mine say "I don't want to spend a lot on a computer because I don't do much with my PC." Once I convince them to get a Mac and they experience a computer they can actually use and be productive with... I hear "I think I'm going to get a PowerBook next time I buy a computer" All of the sudden spending $2000 on a computer doesn't seem so crazy.
A friend of mine just got bit by the Windows Genuine Advantage bug. She decided that instead of spending $150 on "genuine" XP license, she was going to put it toward the purchase of a new MacBook. Her wonderful experience with her iPod certainly made her more comfortable with the idea of switching.
Apple first began offering ATI graphics and then Nvidia and most recently intel graphics.
iBooks always used only ATI graphics. iMacs have used both ATI and Nvidia graphics. PowerBooks have used both ATI and Nvidia graphics. PowerMacs have used both ATI and Nvidia graphics.
The Mac mini and MacBook are currently using intel integrated graphics (high volume products) The MacBook Pro and iMac both currently use ATI graphics (high volume products) The PowerMac currently uses Nvidia graphics (low volume product)
Apple has enjoyed the benefits of being able to pit ATI, Nvidia and intel against each other to get the best prices for their chips. I wouldn't be surprised to see AMD create a low cost chipset solution that we might see in a future Mac mini or iBook. Nothing is going to change in the next year but this will give AMD an opportunity to work with Apple and pitch it's wares.
"...but the "Information wants to be free crowd" here at Slashdot thinks that Apple should hide the information from everyone lest there competitors find out their margin."
This is not a debate on the merits of open vs. closed source.
This is a business issue and Apple is doing smart business.
If you want to be poor then fine set your information free.
Why doesn't Apple just tell everyone how to make their own iPods.
"Apple is not the greatest computer company ever."
You are entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it may be.
I manage education labs and would love to see apple do just that. The Mac mini was a step in the right direction and this new iMac is good too.
The reason we may not see it happen is because it probably isn't as profitable to sell thin Macs as it is to sell fat Macs. I hope Apple sees that thin clients done right could also open up the doors to enterprise customers.
Apple Remote Desktop 3 was a quantum leap and I am hoping that Leopard Server will be the same.
Don't forget that if you are at university for 4 years, thats 8 semesters, thats 16 trips to and from school. Carrying a tower, display, speakers and power supplies 16X!...or a 2" thin iMac?
When Bill & Melinda die, I hope Bono takes over. In fact I wish Buffet had given half of his fortune to Bono's DATA (Debt Aids Trade Africa) Foundation. I fear that when Bill dies one of his clones will take over.
"Cisco - They already purchased Scientific Atlantic" Cisco also purchased Linksys who purchased Kiss Technology Kiss is already making stuff very similar to TiVo http://www.kiss-technology.com/?p=products
As an Apple share holder I would rather see TiVO and NetFlix bought up by Apple.
By Apple: "The TiVo you just bought last month is obsolete. Introducing the MacRecorder Pro. Its sexy! Steve Jobs has personally redesigned the remote. We've recorded every TV show ever broadcast for you at our Cupertino headquarters. You can buy them for 99 cents a show."
It allows you to access the recorded content via a built in FTP server. You can also go the other way and view content from your PC on your TV over your IP network
...and held responsible for monetary damages resulting from your inability to perform your contractual obligations.*

In the Soviet Union the firmware is under legal obligation to maintain you for 5 years.
In South Korea only old people maintain their firmware.

Since we screwed up the Earth with pollution we are going to solve the problem by polluting space!

What a great use for old Macs!
Very creative.
I would love to do this but can't bring myself to destroy my Mac Color Classics.
I would also have put an ipod dock on top of the unit.
Come on! This is DELL we're talking about.
You'll need to take both of them for redundancy.

Core Duo?
WiFi built-in on a desktop?
All-in-one 2" thin case?
XP Home or Professional??
Your comparing Apples and Oranges.
$399-499 will get you last years technology, obsolete out of the box.

That was also my first thought.
I'm tempted to build a small scale one just to play with google earth.
To make the black MacBook worth the price and differentiate it from the white they should have made it with a ATI video card.

I love how you see the new logo creates an "X" in the middle.
