Not to mention that newer Geforce cards have POWER SUPPLY requirements. I tried a Geforce 4 and it would always lock up on boot, turned out my power supplt just wasn't hefty enough. But the Radeon 7000 I got runs smooth and beautiful with that same p-sup. And it's a better card!
Eh? I don't think we would see anything of the sort unless the people serving that content took similar steps to increase their bandwidth. It doesn't matter how much bandwidth I have if the guy on the other end of my connection is just a t1.
I'm still trying to figure out how people who hire spammers make money. I've yet to recieve a spam which led to a WORKING website where I could purchase something. How am I supposed to give them money if their links are all broken? It just doesn't make sense....

Of course. I admit that my use of P2P software is probably completely illegal. We use it to get Anime episodes that are fansubbed and haven't been released or licensed in the US yet. A technical illegality, but hardly a threat to anyones income.
And as an example of what the RIAA could be doing with their music instead of bitching, Apple has sold over 2 million songs since the debut of their music service.

All of the Gauntlet games are pretty reliabley crashable. I can crash them on most consoles about 99% of the time. Just go somewhere that you know there is an exploding magic potion in a crate or barrel, and use an exploding potion near it. I've yet to run into a copy of Gauntlet Legends that doesn't crash when you do that about half the time.
A small organization has 10 members, 1 is the president of the org, 1 is the vice president, 1 is the treasurer and 1 is the secretary. Which of these people has the most power in the org? Many people would say the President. The person that runs the meetings and has all of the trappings of power. Others would say the Treasurer, the person that controls the money. But they would both be wrong. The person with the REAL power is the Secretary. Why? Because the Secretary keeps the minutes of the meetings and records the decisions of the group. If the Secretary records whatever he thinks is the best decision instead of what the group says, and then reports that to the membership they can control the organization. And if done correctly the other members of the administration will never know they've lost all of their percieved power. The Secretary controls the flow of information, so the Secretary has all of the power. Now, who controls the flow of information from the FBI to their supposed government oversight? Think about it for a while... You can't oversee something that you don't know about.
How much of a difference could we make through breeding programs alone I wonder... Could we seriously select for physical strength/fortitude and Intellectual prowess and start to improve as well as homogenize the human race? I wanna see the wolf stock that was bred to get a Poodle. That would take some serious effort from a demented dog breeder to go from wolf to poodle in under 5000 years. That would be great to have pictures of from every 3rd generation or so to compare the changes.

Remember your history books, where fatalties were measured in thousands? War today is no big deal for the US, we're afraid of loss of life. Our entire society is afraid of death of the idea that we might die. We try to shelter our children from it with euphamisms, we paint death as the worst possible outcome, as something to be feared and hated. Is it any wonder that a nation so obsessed with itself, so narcissitic, wouldn't want to see death in spectacular form like a shuttle explosion? That's what REALLY shocked our nation about the WTC attacks. It pointed a big finger at every US citizen and said, "You too are mortal!" and we didn't like it. When we stop pretending death doesn't exist for us maybe we'll learn to live with it and accept that all men die, and everyone deserves the chance to choose the manner of that death.
THe only thing I was not too happy about was that I cant get these in mp3 format so I cant send them to my freinds with plain jane mp3 players. So, your biggest complaint was that they won't let you do something illegal by default? Yeah that's the nail in the coffin for that service for sure....
Personally I like it a lot. I don't see any real issues with it. $.99 per sound, or $9.99 per album. Even if the album has 15 songs on it. You can spend 2$ to get the 2 songs you wanted. It's FAST, it works, and it's easy to use. I think it's a perfect transition to an internet music store.

As a semi-professional poker player I can say right now that the best thing about playing against Academics is their tells. They almost ALL have an obvious tell involving playing with their glasses, adjusting their watch, obsessively counting their chips, MAJOR things that aren't even subtle. I've played twice against a fellow that checks his watch every time he bluffs. EVERY TIME. Most of them are masterful players by the numbers, but retain some odd physical or social tics that make them subpar players at the table. Experience will soon cure most of them of that and we should see a really large influx of strong players in the world of poker that just gets stronger as we go on.
Well, I think that we should grasp every advantage we can pry out of the fingers of entropy. If we can increase the human lifespan by 200 healthy years, do it. If we can eliminate disease, do it. If we can increase the physical and mental capabilities of humanity, do it. Do it to as many people as we can manage. Of course, with that will come massive population pressure, and with lifespans like that people will start to look at the longterm consequences of their actions. So maybe we'll finally get some offplanet colonization going before we doom ourselves to a slow, cancerous decline into chaos and death. Sure care needs to be taken, but denying ourselves any possible advantage against a hostile universe is just insane from the POV of species preservation.
How is this any different from AT&T hiring someone who hacks their network to be in charge of their security? It seems that hiring someone who is good at compromising the system that is protecting you to make that system better is one of the things that the "geek" community recommends. How does this differ? The company she ran was good at compromising peoples privacy so who would better know how to protect that privacy? Any argument you use against her can equally be applied to someone who compromises the network security of a business and is then hired by them.
Mostly we disagree in that you expressed a desire to shelter your kids from knowledge of sex acts. I don't understand how two people kissing, or even rolling around together, or even involved in nongraphic, consensual sex could be objectional for a 15-17 year old. Do you object to it making sex look enjoyable? Sex IS enjoyable. Do you object to it not showing all of the consequences of the act? Well, that's not what the movie is about. It's your job to to explain possible eventual consequences.
My comment about porn was from the mechanical aspect of the act. If your kids hear "don't have sex, sex has these consequences" but hae no idea what the mechanis of sex really are then they are vulnerable.
Actually, most of us don't spend our morning commute making a detailed analysis of the shape and configuration of the shadows under large trucks, or of the way their tires are compressed by weight. In fact, I've never once given a thought to it. So to me, that picture looks totally right and natural because I DON'T FUCKING CARE WHAT THE SHADOWS LOOK LIKE UNDER A FUCKING TRUCK! Why the fuck are you frame-by-frameing the fucking trailer? Do you have no fucking life? Get a job you hopless fuck! It's a movie not a fucking documentary it doesn't have to be 100% fucking reality reflecting. It's a movie about a computer simulation of a reconstruction of the 20th century "real" world. Maybe the machines were aware that only 1 out of every 1 billion people in their little world gives a flying fuck what the truck shadows look like so they didn't bother to waste the processing power to render them? Good lord man it's a SHADOW of a TRUCK that's on the screen for about 2 seconds. Let it go.
Here's where ignorance comes in again. If you keep people ignorant of sex and the consequences they are MORE LIKELY to try it once they figure it out. But aside from that, you have the immediate assumption that a long term relationship is more desirable than many shorter term ones. Some people may not agree. What if I'm filled with love and want to love many people and share that feeling with them? Believe it or not some people are capable of being in love with more than one person at a time completely and fully. The bottom line is that you can't impose your view of morality on the rest of humanity and assume everyone would be better off if they followed it. You also can't rely on ignorance to protect your children from the dangers of sexual relationships before they are ready. Knowledge is the best weapon. Be honest with your kids and with yourself. Explain things to them, the benefits and the consequences and let them decide. They are going to decide for themselves anyways, since it's not like you can stop them. So make sure they are making that decisions with ALL of the information you can give them.
Yeah, and once they end up in that backseat, TOTALLY FUCKING IGNORANT of what sex is, and the other persons wants to fool around, and it feels good, they are going to do it.
