and by just "tapping in" you dont pay for the voltage required to push the signal to you, it doesnt cost much, but if everyone were to just "tap in" then noone would be able to watch, point being there wouldnt be enough power behind the signal for everyone to view it. so on the contrary, you are the one who is the moron.
he has a point, but then so do you. The company does need to make a profit, i see how stealing cable harms film makers and the ppv providers, but not the cable companies, the only reason i see that cable companies care about cable piracy is to keep on the good side of the ppv providers. But your right. cable piracy is bad.
is anyone else wondering why they got a rating of funny? i dont see any comedy in the post.
oh and btw, there are distros that work oob like ms products dont. RedHat and Mandrake both work fine oob, and can even be configured during the installs to setup and run as a server, i havent seen a MS distro that allows you to install and configure iis during first boot...?
sounds intresting, but anyone with the knoldage required to understand this book could easily find all its contents on one or two webpages. I dont see the need for this in print. well except for those of us who like to kick back and drink a beer while we reed, or cant get networking to work (in which case this book isnt for you anyway). just my thorught.

Why do we need software to teach our children?
Wouldn't teaching them in person be better, or are we all too busy?
we need software to teach our children because the rest of us are all to busy downloading pr0n, and trying to get the latest version of windows to boot.

freenet is great anominity and security, i dont like the idea of unused data disapearing completly, but it should be less replicated...
oh and by the way if encryption is what your looking for filetopia is a great p2p progie that lets you share data over encrypted channels, and it's flagship feature is CHAT, kinda like napster. but freenet promises to be so much more, i am just waiting for content to grow more, beyone pr0n and skript kiddies virii.
my 2cents.
what about karma?:-p
anyway your right, a "shared folder" with "dynamic links" to all install shield executables, and all.mp3 and.avi etc should be included (aslong as user is provided a way to cancel the sharing of certin files)
to go even more off topic, only problem i ever had with the httpd.conf file was upgrading to apache2 on a RH8.0 system, service httpd start failed. turns out that system was incorrectly configured, and apache was running a needless module by default, there was no comment about it, but #apache on irc set me straight.
accualy i have tried winblows. versions 3.1, 95, 98, 98se,NT 4.0, ME, 2k, 2kpro, 2kadvanced server, and xp pro. all of which grow progressivly worse in the area of graphics, and with the exception of 2k and XP pro (with some tweaking) all have horrible memory leaks. not to mention all ms software code is horribly unoptimized. This is what allows them the time to release the security updates. The end user has to upgrade his hardware to use the new os, by the time he has useable hardware, viola the patches have been released. And i still do run XP pro on my laptop (be it only cuz of lack of 802.11a wireless nic drivers). I am stil trying to figure out why win XP requires appox 800Mb... how can an os be that big? there have been versions of linux trimed down to around 500 Mb which have all the useability and more of windows. btw when was the last time your system went below 1% processor useage, and below o say 20Mb ram useage? thats my useage during adverage computing.. ie mozilla, xmms (winamp port), and vi. My fancy gui bairly even registers a hit in performance (i run windowmaker). thankyou very much smeg head.
no offence to julesh, but:
---begin rant--- your also forgetting the impact that faster processors has on os development (atleast winblows devel). the faster the processor the more spiffy 3d graphics and the worse unoptimized code to make the os run even worse on your existuing hardware so you look past its huge gaping security flaws and other numerious problems, while gawking at how buteaful it is and speding extra $$ on the hardware to make it run. All in the mean time Micro.. I mean the os manufacturer is still beta testing the os, and once you get your system running right. viola, theres a service pack to fix most major security problems! --end rant---
ok, so Intel says they have a chip that can hit 4GHz, Intel boosts what they consider a MHz anyway, so an AMD 3.7GHz equals in performance what a 4GHz Intel would do anyway. With that out of the way. The bus speed is one of the major bottle necks of computing power these days. And to address the topic of what we need this power for... to run the next version of winblows and games at a below adverage to decent speed (the reasion i run linux), and for high end *nix servers.
its more useful than that man up2date or up2date --help next chance you get, its accualy pretty useful. it updates any package that is on the distro cd's or you can install the latest version of those packages if there not already installed.
site uses mysql. No wonder it is down. MySql blows and so does Apache. - by Anonymous Coward
most major web servers use apache and a good percent of they use mysql, so your saying "the internet blows, and most the servers on it blow too!" ?, maby you should crawl back into the cave you stumbled out of, and rethink your conclusion.
i consider myself anti-MS, and i dont think people who dislike tabs are wrong, everyone has a preference, its just most people have been sucked into the mindless vortex of MS telling them how to do what they do. I am for options, i like the option to use tabs or windows, however this also leads to bloat-ware. maby they should make branches, mozilla w/ tabs and mozilla w/o tabs could be seprate downloads, however this would only complicate the development and download process. maby a comptile time option make mozilla --no-tabs, and the tab's wouldnt be compiled into your CUSTOM TAYLORED version of mozilla, now if only the developers would read this... heh, (probably some really simple pratical reason they dont do this anyway, but i cant think of it right now) id like to hear other ideas on ui options and how to keep programs from becomming bloat-ware while still providing the end user with as many options as possible...?
i didnt suspect they fully reversed engeneered it, but if there is a back door in it, you think they would have noticed it? someone should reenigne-esrever the FT protocol and make a modern linux client. Thanks for the insight!
sounds like a DUMB idea to me, it would keep programs from being broken, but it would also expand the os size for every new version dll there is. not only would you have the most recent dll's on your system, you would still have dll's on your system that were recent ten years ago! More micro$uck BLOAT ware crap. also, how would you go about setting up a logical directory structure that would function and store these dll's? this would also expand the registry to an almost unmanagable point after only a few updates, and big registeries=slower computers
redhat does provide a tool oob to help with dependencies, its called up2date, you need a dependency, up2date -i apache-devel if you need apache-devel, mind you if apache-devel has dependencies you dont have youll have to get those first too. apt-get for rpm's works really well to solve this problem but its not oob. but you have to give redhat credit, its much more user friendly than the usual linux approcah of make and make install.
im not saying that grids and p2p will not merge, infact i think it will happen, im posting because i see another possibility that hasent been discussed yet.
is it possible that programmers of grids will incorperats *some* p2p ideas but not all? still maintaining a hiarchey system on some level? and isnt it possible that p2p programmers will take a hint from grid programmers, and incorperate *some* ideas from grids into their software, but still being independent of a grid?... just a thought...
im not sure about the govermently sponcered thing (if your right i agree with you there), but as for the rest of it, i think your an ignorant ass, not that theres anything wrong with that, just pointing it out.
ok, im gonna go join Jar-Jar Binks in pink spandex on his unicycle.

wel, its 8:15 the next day, and the site has been slashdotted... poor sysadmins. i cant even read linus's thoughts... oh well, ill try back later.
how about nowware, nowwhere, nowwear, noware, nowhere, nowear. pick one.
yes *looks over sholder nervously* the anti-piracy officers are comming for me!
well, weve managed to /. the images, im still getting text, images will not load (and i know its not this computer) :-D
