Every few years, I buy from newegg.com. Every time my CC company flags and declines it and I have to call to clear it.
I rarely travel, perhaps a flight every few years. My card gets swiped at the airport check-in and the next day I see 10,000 in flight charges. I call and tell them they are fraudulent charges. I have to fight with them for weeks to get the charges removed.
I personally would like an app where charges over $500 require a 2-stage authorization. Just ping me and I'll be the final call, they can't decide what's fraudulent or not on their own.
Making a mod for minecraft is not the same as working with the game source code. They're making very small programs like "if it's block type 50 hit it with your axe". Looking at the source code for quake would not be nearly as accessible to learn basic programming concepts.
You must seriously be tripping balls. They aren't showing elementary school kids the source code for the games. They are using the games to teach programming concepts.
You use Java in a lot more things than you think. Java Desktop Apps are terrible and the updater is annoying as hell, but it's also likely the language powering most every device you use and many web applications you use day to day.
HP laptops always feel so "Playschool kids playset" to me. The keys have a terrible tactile feedback, and the gloss is tacky. I'd like them to fix that first.
The E-10 has been murder on my late 70's vehicle -- I've had to replace all rubber gas lines and have to tinker with the carb much more often. I highly prefer 100% petrol. Stabil seems to help when I have to use E-10. I haven't noticed any issues (even change in mileage) in my 2005 car however.
I have bought far more games based on gameplay I watched a fan play on a stream or video than those I have just "heard of". This is the nearly same thing as seeing a game at a friend's house and then wanting it yourself. It's just that this is done on the internet now.
'Real-time' usually seems to mean to a lot of people 'you don't have to do a processing step after saving data to see results, but instead see a stream as the data is collected'. 'Real-time' doesn't require that the system have no lag (impossible), but at least latency should be known. Which, I will grant you, is likely not known in this case.
Most of these mods are just color changes and effect removals. Modding is awesome, but get off your high horse about 'fixing' the game.
It's much more common that your number was swiped or stolen, not the physical card.

I'm sure this future feels a lot closer in San Francisco.

Oh, I just realized you were joking. Yes, I agree.
No, they mean "grit" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G...
What year is it? I loved basic in 1990, but this is not the right technology to use today.

Why not just rebind back in history to a button that doesn't have such a high potential to accidentally lose your work in the wrong context?
slashdot, news for nerds, written by people who can't even html.
Or maybe just unhook backspace from "Back in History". Who the hell actually uses backspace to go back in history on a website?
Prepared statements, stored procedures.
As though they don't already know what your phone number is anyway.

what the hell was qplay?
10% water in your petrol would cause a lot more problems than just a hit to your mileage.

I am surprised actually. I hope this is a sign that they will halt takedowns; like shutting down fan SSB Melee tournaments, youtubers, etc.

You might be surprised. They seem to have very little understanding that streams and video content generated by fans is good for advertising.

"in Javascript" is a classic headline decorator at Slashdot, which it never outgrew, and probably needs to.
