Why wouldn't they have been any more likely to obtain obsecen profit levels by preventing you to move your physical body about? You can't leave, you've gotta stay in my miner town and work in my coal mine. No moving = no options.
We sure get a lot of posts about the possibility of laws being passed that are just going to royally fuck our ability to do (insert valuable action), but few of them ever pan out.
It's good to be informed about these things, but do we need all the, "Well the libraries...!" and "Man those old, rich, white men just don't understand technology!" Instead of spending your two minutes writing a slashdot post, write to someone in the goverment. If it's not your government (canada's not mine) then I'm sure you know someone whose government it is. Tell them to write or call in. Unless it's China.
I'm sure it's been suggested and I know I'm commenting late but I just got to look at slashdot for the first time since this morning...
Instead of including the "sender-ID" other email providers and servers should just refuse to use it. While I'm not sure of the exact usage statistics, I'm sure hotmail doesn't own the market and this would put the heat on MS to forget about pushing non-sender-ID email into junk mail. If enough people are getting enough legitamate email in their trash/spam folder they'll complain, and if they complain enough and start to switch elsewhere MS will just shut up about the whole thing.
Besides, hotmail's crap anyway.
What happens when people start embedding viruses and worms into media files? With the GDI+ vulnerability, it's only a matter of time. And it'd be easy for people on a p2p network to modify the file and start sharing it. Sure, you could have moderators etc, specified distributors, whatever, but that sort of destroys the point of having something like this utilize a p2p network.
And if it's very popular, then you know the files would have a high likelihood of being modified and corrupted. Or how about simple work arounds to make the file appear to be of one media type when it's really another?
Sure, few people on slashdot would have to worry about getting tricked. But we're not the masses. And isn't that what this sort of thing is aimed at?
The deoxyribonucleic hyperdimension changed the way I think about a lot of things, mostly spiritual/psychedelic and I think the most important thing to read is that even though the information is presented as factual it's real purpose is only to get people to think about things differently, as that's the only way people will ever create new and useful things - by thinking outside of the box.
I think it's a good idea for many different soverignties to own a share of the european satellite system. I mean that way it's more likely that it won't be used for military purposes, and I could see the shared aspect of it actually keeping european nations from waging war with eachother in some circumstances.
If our current administration wasn't so stuck on following its agenda of world domination (or whatever) maybe they'd wise up and join in the new system. It'd be better to guarantee america a slice of the pie than try to have the whole thing and end up with it all over your face. Know what I mean?
I guess from now on instead of linking to things where I could get copyrighted I'll have to start cleverly instructing you on a google search!

I think you meant jumping on the p2p band-WIDTH!
I'd never take my phone out of my pocket and I'm sure I'd end up in a car accident.
Where are the screen shots? I can't download something if I'm not sure of how it'll look.
This'll just help to encourage microsoft implement it and then we can all say goodbye to that horrid hotmail.
Does this mean they'll be featuring lego pr0nz??

hahaha, people suffering from epilepsy won't be able to surf the web anymore.
