What?! that $1000 computer I bought can't even babysit?! What's the point!
Seriously, I've thought this ever since people were upset kids were watching too much violence on TV or in computer games or seeing porn on the Internet. It's not technology's job to keep children safe (I guess when there are cyborgs having children it might be a different story...)
His point is not that everyone should 'live behind barbed wire', etc, but that people be reasonable.
His point is not that people should not be considered criminals for trespassing into your computer.
His point is that people should take a little bit of responsibility for their actions. I bought a new car and while I would consider the person that might steal it a thief, I did get an alarm system for it. The alarm system did not impose on anyone else's civil liberties and did not diminish the fact that if someone stole the car it was illegal, but by making my car that much harder to steal, I am making being a thief more difficulty.
Except I don't think we should limit what one person can do so that another can do the same things.

It would be a lot easier to say 'Yes you are right' if they said 'See this code here? and that code there? That's ours!'

I used to work at NASA. Anything that NASA creates becomes the work of the public (ie microwaves, etc).
A lot of things are made by small companies that work for NASA, these can be kept by the small company that created them.
