In the annals of M$ mythology people conveniently forget all the losers companies they have bought in the past, along with billions they've lost on both the internet and the China market. At that point in the company's history - such was not conveniently located nearby - instead I had to track down the HR personoid to unlock the storage room for me to get my briefcase with the necessary supplies - a typically Microsoft-colossal waste of time - and contrary to popular belief - they have always been colossal wasters of time.
I remember how the HR young lady (kid?) walked me to a storage area and had me drop off my briefcase there. Then she walked me over to the PC station I was to be working at. The desk was empty and devoid of any pens, pencils, rules, paper, etc., etc.; exactly what I had brought with me in my briefcase. To me this will always typify M$ - thank goodness they had all those billions from DOS licensing pouring in......

You must have worked at M$ or be absolutely brilliant. Speaking as one who contracted early on with them (disclaimer: am bitter that they never hired me) - that is exactly they way they do things - although at the very beginning they used to base everything on the lowest-intelligence secretary they could find - equally as stupid and uninspired.
I once thought that when I was 18 years of age - then, a few years later I had to direct a pilot to place a bomb on the NVA next to me, not on top of me. And, if you ever have to do a flight plan on the run....

You obviously no nothing about either Microsoft nor Bill Gates.....(original funding for M$ - Gates' uncle, VP at First Interstate - original contact with CEO of IBM who handed over DOS licensing to Gates - his mother, Mrs. Gates (now deceased). Original DOS program - copy of Gary Kildall's CPM.... [APs don't count, clown, that's purely a subjective measure and unreliable with the present-day super grade inflation.]
Let me explain reality to you a small doses - it is normally the contractors (when they were still using them at M$) who came up with all the fixes - not the "senior engineering group."
Since so many jobs have been offshored to India and elsewhere over the past 4 years, M$ has been stumbling a whole bunch on those small details lately. 'Nuff said.....
Sorry - didn't mean to be too subtle - if you read/. with regularity - or follow the columns on Gates elsewhere - you would know he hires the most RECENT college grads only - which is as arbitrary as SAT scores - also mainly predominantly (at least as far as Americans go) Ivy League schools.

I'm sorry to disagree with Billy Gates (SAT score: 1400 - Verbal: 600, Nonverbal: 800), but his competition is altogether different from Lotus, Wordperfect and Novell - which he had the advantage over as his OS's had a lock on the market - thanks to all those billions he received from DOS licensing, etc.
Google and Apple don't have those limitations - and have been innovating a thousand (if not more) times than McSoftware. Evidently, McSoftware's Indian and African programmers aren't able to creat a search engine even remotely as functional and efficient as those super guys over at Google (go figure?). Lucky he has all those billions to burn (just like Paul Allen, #3) as he has lost billions on both the internet and in China.

There is the biological rule of reduction to the mean, i.e., smart people tend to breed less smart people and average people tend to breed above-average people. This rule is troublesome to many as it destroys the notion of eugenics.
Poul Anderson wrote an interesting SF short story years ago about culling the most intelligent people in a society - setting them on a distant planet, from which developed a race of super-intelligent people. But scientifically that might just not work!

I would take a minor issues with integrate their product and instead write: license and then EXACTLY copy their product.
