Sorry, dood (jfengel), but your response is nonsensical. The banksters received the bailouts, and instead of allowing credit to small biz they have used tax payer funds for further bonuses, hired lobbyists to halt necessary financial re-regulation, used those funds for oil/energy/commodities' speculation and stock market arbitrage, and the consumer (formerly known as "citizen") is far too strapped to spend what little money they still possess.

The problem has always been the same, what we Hackers realized long ago with regard to knowledge, that there should be no existing monopoly by the Corporation and the State on land and capital. PERIOD!

Sadly, you have asked a serious-sounding question so I shall respond in kind. This may be difficult for you - and I'm not criticizing your intelligence level here - but the question indicates you are still residing in the matrix, which in America, one would place you as paying serious attention to either Fox, NPR or the like, all Bernays-engineered engines of propaganda.

It has never been about winning the Internet war, that is all the usual smokescreen to keep various types, outfits and organizations occupied with the nebulous. It is about control of the Internet, which has been subtly taking place over the past few years. Whether it is the privatization of all those telecoms (just check into the private equity firms which own ALL of those privatized telecoms, i.e., Blackstone Group, Carlyle Group, KKR, Citadel, etc., etc.) as well as the slowing down of certain types of traffic lately, and the implementation of those Narus boxes, which has happened throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East, etc.

Politically, they are reframing and confusing this situation they way they handle all others, such as pitting people in the Anti-abortion against those in the Pro-choice, while always keeping it a constant battle (hence all those single-issue types); and keeping Gays and Lesbians occupied by always promising the granting of normal citizen's rights (marriage, military service to support the American Empire, etc.).

  25. Another point on What Belongs In a High School Sci-Fi/Fantasy Lit Class? · · Score: 1

Poul Anderson wrote great SF, but frequently some of his fiction were era-based (as in the constant Cold War struggle extrapolated to the far future) while only a limited amount of his fiction would stand the test of future reading (such as Operation Chaos, or the short story preceding that, Operation Changeling). Admas' work was very futuristic, and covered a variety of scientific topics, making it qualify both as SF and comedy. The other works are applicable to today, while so much of what is considered "classic" SF is rather outdated, to say the least. And nothing, absolutely nothing, compares to the future fiction as exemplified by Iain Banks' The Player of Games --- he hit every target in that novel.
