So, what OS are you running then? On every win2k box that I have access to (and websearching implies it works on XP as well), right-clicking on "My Documents" (the icon on the desktop, or in the root of an explorer window. Not the actual directory/folder named "My Documents"), and then picking "Properties" yields a window with a "Target" tab, where you can change where "My Documents" points.
Also, I think it is misguided to try to make a small C: drive. I've not reloaded any of my computers in the last 2 years, so you must be doing something wrong.
Please note: If you are not using NT/2k/XP, disregard that last paragraph, because the other Windows are pieces of shit.
Good lord man, your/. ID is lower than mine, and you still don't know what Freenet does?
Yes, Freenet "deliberately lacks any option to be selective about what resources are forwarded to others". Indeed, not only can't you control which resources, but you can't even tell which resources.
I've been reading OCR'd books on my Zaurus. Once you do that, and get used to seeing (and reading correctly) stuff like "dean" instead of "clean", you realize how much redundancy there really is in English.
Here's another link to their essay (which wasn't terribly readable in the previous link i gave) about Gore's statement. And here is an excerpt:
There are many factors that have contributed to the Internet's rapid growth since the later 1980s, not the least of which has been political support for its privatization and continued support for research in advanced networking technology. No one in public life has been more intellectually engaged in helping to create the climate for a thriving Internet than the Vice President. Gore has been a clear champion of this effort, both in the councils of government and with the public at large.
All in all, I don't think his statement is "simply false". Or perhaps, "simply" it is false, but when taken in context (not just the context of his words on that occasion, but also the context of his overall actions), it is not false. To say that it is seems a lot like picking nits to me.
Getting a quote wrong (even if you are only alluding to the quote) is way worse than a syntax error.
BOOM. You are a foe, and I'll not see your posts again.:)
Mod me down as offtopic, or flamebait. This guy needs to know that he fucked up, and shouldn't defend a mistake. I'll not take my karma bonus, tho.
This would be sweet if they hacked the slimp3..

...to support it.
The slimp3, if you've not heard of it, is a thin-client that will play mp3s streamed from the server. The server is written in perl, and kicks much ass. I'm pretty sure that people are using the server as a front end to their mp3s (as the server can also feed an http stream), even without owning the slimp3 hardware.
Those with perl-talent should totally be able to hack the existing (open source) slimp3 server into supporting this hardware as well.
Granted, I'm not too sure how much the slimdevices folks would appreciate this, but the two projects seem ripe for marriage.
Speakeasy lets you do whatever you want with your bandwidth.
Well, that's not entirely true. You are not allowed to share it with anyone outside of your building. But you can use all your bandwidth, all the time, and they are A-OK with that.
I think the no-sharing clause is to prevent 1 person from ordering DSL, and a 3-house radius getting service from it. Not to limit the amount of bandwidth that they consume.
Think of the back-end info this gives them

So, now that they own Blogger and Blogspot, they basically have full-on, back-end access to all these blogs. They don't have to crawl websites to get information on what people are linking to (or what they say about those things). They can just pull it out of the (probably more-easily-interpreted) databases. Heck, they can even directly get activity data, and find out what things are being blogged in realtime (and thereby improve the quality of their news, as well as web, search results).
This isn't about Google pumping up Blogger, or BlogSpot. This is about them acquiring direct access to blog data.
Right, but VMware just "virtualizes" the processor, no? I though bochs's big point was that it emulates it. Thus, you don't have to have an intel CPU to run code compiled for intel. I thought VMware only runs on Intel chips?
Granted, being able to have one powerful box (many redundant parts, yada yada yada) to care for, and virtual "images" of computers to deal with would kick the ass of having to manage a bunch of 1U servers.
I believe that virtualization is where everything is heading. Good lord, you already have it with SAN/NAS solutions (storage virtualization), why not with processors (server/cpu virtualization) ?

Right click "My Documents", pick "Properties", then press the "Move" button.
I've only tried this on win2k, but I'd figure that XP would be the same. I've no idea about their other OSes.
Likewise, on unixy systems, you can change your homedir in the /etc/passwd file.
I guess I'm just not clear what you're complaining about.

Well, ok, you are probably just misinformed.
No wonder it compresses so well.
So don't be whinging to me about a missing "o". :)
I keep getting "bad data from tracker" unless I take privoxy out of the loop.
I suspect it is the "demoronizer" filter (which also causes problems with other random things).
Anyone?
This one is better than that one.
It works, but it can't handle the size of AVI that one usually comes across. 512x384 is about as good as it can do. Same thing with MPGs.
Still, if you don't mind re-encoding to a smaller size, it's not too bad.
If so, I must concur with the parent of your post, and suggest speakeasy. I've got 4 static IPs, and I am able to send mail to AOL.
So there.

Ahh..nostalgia. :)
It was hilarious when we got a roommate who actually was an unemployed writer. :)
Riiight. People like Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf?

Who did "take the initiative in creating the Internet" then?
No one?
I guess I'm not clear on the distinction you are drawing.
Just get a Sony ethernet adapter for it. And this software ($$$). Granted, it won't record shows, but it will play your divx, mpg, mp3, etc.
You think that's a syntax error?

For some of us, it's no effort at all...

Sweet Christ!
What a troll.
Unless you are the only provider in Podunk, USA, I can't believe anyone would submit to your TOS. They just completely suck.
I'm glad that I live in SF, so I don't have to put up with shit from poorly-managed, draconian ISPs like yours.
