My first paycheck out of college went for a ZX-81. I'll agree with the original poster that that stinky little 2K ram machine made me understand computers far better than I ever could have with DOS or anything else. I would get my subcription to Popular Electronics (or whatever magazine I could wheedle) out and key in a program or two from each issue, then start playing with the statements and variables to see how things would change. At $150 it was affordable for a first-year teacher and reliable enough (with cassete drive and 16K expansion brick) to keep going. I still have it and its descendant, a Timex-Sinclair 1000, boxed up with a crapload of newsletters. It's part of my retirement fund. I just hope they'll be worth something significant in 2020.

Scientists these days are no more ethical than Used Car Dealers or Politicians. They go where the money is. And there's no money in proving that humans aren't causing Global Warming. And there are no publications that will give ink to alternative theories. Scientists get their funding from grants. Mainly from the government, but from NGOs as well. The money says, "Prove that humans are causing Global Warming". Yes, the money talks. And the scientists listen. Moral of the story: Don't trust a scientist any more than you would trust a poltician or used car dealer.
I was trashed for this opinion, but guess what? I WAS RIGHT!!!! Scientists are no more trustworthy than politicians or used-car salespersons.
I use photoshop and illustrator regularly without that precious second button. And they work just fine. And I'm just as fast and just as productive without the right-click. Both of my arms work, so the occasional option-click is not a problem. I sleep fine, no nightmares. The nice thing about Apple is that the user makes the decision on how many buttons his/her mouse has. M$ Windoze dictates. Freedom vs. Dictatorship.
OK, whoopee, the shuffle functions similarly to other flash music players. And just what else is there to do with a pack-of-gum sized device?
Apple's products do not require a 2 button mouse. The software developers write for it, knowing that Apple users have the option, unlike Windoze users. Windoze programmers lazily make these "contextual menus" that most users don't even know about since no one RTFM anyway.
Yes, I use Windoze. But those bruises on the side of my head are from the gun that's pressed against it. If I got paid by the useless, redundant click, I would love Windoze. Given the option, I would take my office PC and either convert it to Linux or throw it in the lake to make a lovely artificial reef.
Apparently in your world, the babies come out ready to surf, send email and right-click their way through life. Seriously, Apple's design gives users the OPTION of a one- or multi- button mouse. Can Windoze users go to a one-button? As I said in another post, the single button mouse forces designers to make a simpler, more intuitive program instead of placing unknown contextual menus all over the place. You know as well as I do that nobody RTFM. And as far as Apple's "take features that all other similar devices have and market them as innovation" You're sadly misinformed or painfully bitter. I'll vote for the latter...
Coders are using the right-click as a crutch. There are so many Windoze programs that rely on right-clicking for so many things that users don't even know the features exist. Contextual pop up menus are nice, but since no one reads the manual, how does a user find it? The one-button mouse forces programmers to design a more intuitive, simpler application and to not crutch on the right-click, center-click thing.
1. Instant-on computers.
2. Batteries that last 10x as long as now and charge in an hour.
3. Self-repairing OS, no crashes, viri, or loss of data...ever.
4. Voice recognition/commands for everything in the home and vehicle.
5. One phone number for all services (no separate #s for landline, cell, pager, fax, etc.)
6. Ala carte per hour fees for television. Get charged only by what you watch when you watch it.
7. Portable computer "guts" (storage/os/prefs, etc) that you can plug into a public unit and use outside the homebase while still keeping your own data intact and relatively secure. No bigger than a PDA.
And one just for me...
8. A pleasure droid. Fully configurable;)
The only way to fight technology is with technology. Does anyone know if there are devices available that will detect these plants? Where does one get one of these? Secondly, we need to get some instruction on how to get rid of the data recorders in our cars. I've looked but can't find any sources of that info.
My guess is that he gets enough hits to generate a pretty good amount of funding. There's another little news site out there, the Drudge Report, that generates seven figures with what he does. Now NDP doesn't reach that level, but to raise enough to pay for Hahvahd tuition, fees and living expenses would be well within the possibilities of thinksecret.
Recall also that those friendly folks at the RIAA have been suing schoolkids for their college funds, too, so it's not unheard of. Economically stupid, but not unheard of.
Now for the next question. What digital minion got canned as a result of the crashes? Do you think ol' Billy boy ordered his people to go through the code and find out which programmer put the fatal bug in? My guess is that the official Microsoft Gallows 2.0 is being prepared and some poor coder is walking the last mile with the priest reading bible verses to him.
I don't recall Steve Jobs having the same problem at any MacWorld keynotes.
SO if silicon devices have "rights", could I be charged with datacide if I wipe a hard drive? What if I change OS's? (Windoze to Linux perhaps?) Especially if I do it without a governmental permission slip!
Hmmm..
Could politics be a motive? IMHO, the modern environmentalist movement is rooted more in socialism than it is in ecology or any other science. Politically anyone with an "agenda" is discredited immediately, but somehow, the government escapes that same scrutinization. I don't believe it's a conspiracy, but more of an unholy alliance. It's my belief that significant findings to the contrary are either suppressed or trashed in the scientific community. I can list a bunch of books that have received that treatment.
Research can be designed to produce a given outcome and still be considered to have a "sound methodology.
Researchers who produce reports that disagree with the mainstream don't get invited to many cocktail parties, don't get published as well, and don't get many followup grants.
The researchers may not, but their funding sources do.
And it's not Bush's EPA. Remember that EPA is mostly comprised of career people that don't change with administration changes. Consider this: Would the EPA support research that would make its funding decrease? It's simple organizational biology.
No organization, public or private, would overtly support research that puts it out of business or even decreases its impact. It's a case of politics poisoning science.
It's a well known fact that scientific research can be custom designed to come to a particular conclusion and still be considered "valid".
I don't have anything against scientists/ researchers, they have to put food on the table. And if proving that humans cause GW does it, they will do so.

Yes, I believe that the public WOULD be served by having Bushie and Kerrie back out. It would show, in no uncertain terms, that these are not really debates, but publicly funded infomercials for the Ds and the Rs.
Picture the CNN/Fox/PMSNBC news stories if B and K dropped out in protest over Badnarik showing up. They would have an impossible time keeping the Libertarian party secret anymore.
How about three minutes with Britney Spears? Now there's a ride worth taking! HEY! Before criticizing, remember, in three minutes you could make mad passionate love to her AND get to know her entire depth of her being!
IVS stands for Idiot Vermin Scum control system. The IVS system would force a driver to speed up if he gets passed five times in five minutes on a two lane highway. IVS would also apply pressure to the accelerator pedal within 5 seconds of seeing a green light, no matter how long it takes the IVS driver to admire its hue. The IVS system would sound a 110 decibel air horn inside the passenger compartment of any driver that tailgates. IVS would also prevent drivers from pulling out in front of me and shaving/applying makeup/eating/talking on cellphone while driving.
If I only knew how to implement these changes, I would be able to buy and sell Bill Gates...
Be careful. If you watch about 2 hours of TechTv, you'll be on the phone to Dish or DirecTV in a flash. Especially Sarah Lane or Jessica Corbin on the ScreenSavers.

But it has to make a good dent in the tuition bill, doesn't it? I've not dealt with online ads before. What are typical rates?
