The statement is based on what past missions have accomplished. This conjecture is invalid from a broader perspective. Here's a comparitive analogy:
did any member of Christopher Columbus, Lief Ericsson, or the Pilgrim voyage pioneer breakthroughs in flight, submarines, or nuclear power?
Since none of those voyages resulted in dramatic scientific or human development, should it be concluded that human voyages across the Atlantic should have been abandoned in the 16th and 17th centuries???
Attention Greeblorgs! Top Greeblorg scientists have determined that an alien species located on Sol 3 have discovered our civilization! All radio and digitized light arrays should be temporarily taken off-line and back-ups of all data secured.
A phenomenon the Solerians refer to as Slash-Dotting is certain to disable all arrays with less than a direct quantum connection to the central data core
Greeblorg drones have assured the prime council that appropriate measures are in place to protect the central data core from damage, though interruption to communications to and from the central data core are likely
for real flexibility: tivo-alike software mpeg2 encoding tuner
yeilding a highly customizable tivo-alike system and fully portable files. I liked my first one so much, im now putting together a third box
the market is far from weak, as revenues from CD sales are substantially higher this year (20%+ if memory serves).
Clearly, what this is about is Sony wanting to hegde its bets. It is a very smart (if evil) move on their part. with nearly 50% of the total retail music catalog, they will make record revenues on physical sales. They will have the power to deny nearly 50% of all music to the Apple iTunes Music Store, while simultaneously guaranteeing that the Sony Connect store has at least an equal size catalog to iTunes, AND allows forcible adoption of the sub-par ATRAC3 codec, as well as the sleek and very limited new network walkmen.
A brilliant business plan, brilliant for Sony, not brilliant for the growth of the music market or the rights and interests of consumers.
cannon xl1 if you'd like to see if its up to cinematagraphic snuff, just watch "Dancer In The Dark" Cannes winner... shot using the XL1. supurb color saturation and all the features you want, at an attractive price, plus what most camcorders lack... lens options... try that with a panasonic/sony.
if budget is a concern, go with the gl1... same ccd chip, fixed lens.

...well known factoid that IIS web servers provide the vast majority of the content available on the Internet
Please try to refrain from making such broad and unqualified statements. Do you mean to say that IIS is responsible for more bytes of data sent on the 'net? Or perhaps that IIS sends out more pageviews? Or that IIS is more widely installed?
The little freeware server you referenced... (I think you said it was "Apache") does have some influence in the server market. That is to say that it dominatesit
2: Best Buy sells music as a loss leader to get people in the stores to buy other things, mainly product accessories where margins are at their highest. This loss leader approach is a proven, successful marketing technique, especially for Best Buy.
correction: Best Buy sells a select few cd's at... a loss... to get people in the stores.
you'll find $18 - $22 dollar cd in best buy, just like in any other retailer
OHHHHHH! I see the trouble... you're using windows!
the above is partially serious, partially joking... I use windows too, as well as OSX, and Debian. I actually have a new pc (antec aria case... no floppy) where I need to flash my bios, and it is a huge ass-pain. you have summed up the windows experience quite nicely though:
it's a daily experience to run into a situation where I have to drop back and punt, using a good old floppy to complete a repair
that was NOT a joke... I'm imagining you in your bell-bottom pants, platform soles, and a stack of pristene 720kb floppies.
I said iPod, but you may interpret that as any usb/usb2/firewire device that may be used as a hard drive. A small usb (pen) drive is only slightly larger than the usb connector itself, and costs about the same as a floppy drive.
if you are using a computer without at least a single usb 1.1 connection, you probably should accept that you have fallen desperately behind the times.
Ummm, I can't see how they will derrive a plot from spyhunter... how could there plausibly be a state where 70% of the traffic is comprised of suicidal secret agents.
As the owner of a SFF (XPC) HTPC, I can tell you that heat will be VERY difficult to manage. I'm certain that they will use heat pipes to carry the heat from the two processors to a single radiator mounted to the top of the back wall of the case.
As for my setup, an Athlon 2.4 with a Radeon 9600 Pro AIW and PVR250 card... well, I have to hide the thing completely behind the entertainment center to try and get the sound of howling fans down to an acceptable level. I'm trying to figure out how to stuff a water cooling rig into that little box... While Opterons aren't really any hotter than Bartons, two of them, with a hot video card, 2 fast hard-drives, and a dvd, with 4 sticks of memory will surely require some fast-spinning fans to keep everything just under the melting point
MS won the browser war... but a new war is brewing, and once again, it will revolve around API's and who controls them. Linking Mozilla closely or completely with MS proprietary API's would be equal to surrender, before this war has even begun. Make no mistake, MS will offer one sweet set of API's, custom written to lure the developers of projects which might threaten MS's control of the market. If successful... those API's will "evolve" to "offer a richer user experience" (i.e. hamstring the competition)
This raises and interesting option for Apple. they should've done it long ago, but now is the time that they finally buy Apple Records outright, and end the occasional lawsuits, and long established contract that prevents Apple Computer from entering the Music Recording Industry.
They should buy Apple Records, which would grant them the right to sign any and all free-agent and upcoming bands to the Apple label, distribute their music on ITMS, and they would sweep the industry because they could pay the artists ~50% royalties as opposed to the.2% - 12% the RIAA offers these artists. Apple would clean up, the musicians would clean up, and the RIAA would either be forced to reform and compete, or (I wish, I wish, I wish) finally die.
I still have a couple Pentium I with MMX running and without a hitch. How much longer are you talking about?
That's not a fair comparison... you can hardly even fry an egg on those old processors. Today's processors let you fry that egg with ease, while simultaneously calculating whether the egg preceeded the chicken, render the resulting proto-fowl in stunning 3D, with time left over to disprove your own existance.
10.2 was a free upgrade from 10.1, 10.0 was a free upgrade if you had a paid-for beta... I'ts highly likely that 10.4 will be a free upgrade from 10.3.
so unless you bought them all seperately for kicks... you are lying.

UNLESS you design some great new EULA that would basically render the software a purpetual lease, where the software company could charge per workstation per year (or quarter)!! Now THAT is a great idea! If only someone would put it in practice!
Dear mr. Coward,
We at the RIAA are pleased that you have enjoyed our fine products. We look foreward to recieving a check from you in the amount of $3,000.00 (2,000 songs @ $1.50 average retail). Please also include an additional sum of $95,000.00 required to stop legal procedures which will force a lien against your vital organs. This legal process is already underway, so please don't delay your pament!
