The gun analogy sounds very stupid to me. A gun is in desing, a device to KILL. When you get a gun, and are not a hunter (who doesn't get a gun, but an hunting rifle) the only thing you can do with it is practise to, and kill somebody...

Because IE is flawed, tightly integrated with the OS it makes holes big ones. Also, it's the pagerendering of Firefox that is faster and as soon as you get spy/adware it renders IE useless (convinced a lot of people just to try firefox that way, IE wasn't working, try this)
Futhermore these plugins, I don't know them but let's say they work as great as Firefox, still you have IE under the hood that sucks (slow rendering etc)
The question is of course if they ran X while doing mysql tests etc. If they did, Linux should be a bit faster. SuSE uses KDE and isn't that fast feeling at my AMD64 (running 32bit variant because they work better).
Neighboors computer broke, i took it and saw this nice soundblaster. Placed it in my computer, worked unstable, tried tried tried and fried.

The new sony viao maybe? Super high contrast and quality without the reflecting layer of the old "black" laptop screens of them.
I thought they called it onyx... Maybe you should look around at sony's site.

In the netherlands (europe) we've been voting electronicaly for more then 10 years now. No problems reported yet... And I always thought america was the country of the unlimited possibilitys:D

I wouldn't have bought a single MP3 I've downloaded! I rather listen to the radio and don't buy music in store. Movies is something else, but I do buy these after downloading because the features of the CD.

ATRAC3 sounds very good, but you need to reencode from lossless (MP3 or OGG) to lossless, wich makes it bad for a "mp3"-player

It's called google. HOSTS is platform independent, but under windows it is in C:\windows\HOSTS. Works with evrything that resolves DNS names.
