First, nice to see you can state your case without a personal attack. Second, have you ever been exposed to the government procurement system?
The argument is philosophical in nature. You might be surprised that many people just aren't comfortable giving any government such power in what is a civil matter. As you think I am ludicrous to not give the government such control, I am on the other side and think it is ludicrous to think the government will NEVER abuse such authority.
When they say "more government", that doesn't mean that it actually employs more people. they are talking about more power/authority to the government.
I have no idea why they are selling, but imagine this. What if the controlling entity of Nat Geo wants to sell meaning it is not a hostile takeover, but the government says sorry, no deal (for whatever reason). Imagine if you owned a business and wanted to sell to the highest bidder, but the government steps in and says sorry, you have to sell to the lowest bidder because "we" think it is better. Do you really want that? Does that not open the door to abuse? I think it does.
And a deep *sigh* from me because you just don't get it. Just because the time is absolute meaning the same everywhere, it is the offsets that take into account the actual sunrise/sunset which translates to human time....unless everyone must work the same business times as you.
So if time zones are as dumb and apparently useless as you propose, just how would I know what time it is in say Munich Germany while I am sitting in say Kansas City?
Before you get all jumpy, I would suggest you wait and see what Oracle means by "low cost". I will bet that their "low cost" is something that most companies still can't justify little alone an individual.
I am not talking about religious propaganda but normal business advertising. So you are telling me when you walk down the streets of any bigger city in Panama, Costa Rica or Mexico that you don't see business signs....opened a newspaper and not see business's coupons...or even opened the nice little pamphlet that the hotels place in the rooms telling about local recreation or restaurants?
To date, I have see all of the above in Belize, Guyana, countless Caribbean islands, Japan and Thailand.
I am not sure if you are trolling or not, but I guess I will bite so here goes. I believe you have "highest" and "lowest" confused. The highest form of advertising is when you connect a buyer and a seller to which both strike a deal (purchase) that both feel satisfied. The lowest (your highest) is basically fraud where a seller completely misleads the buyer as to what they are going to purchase....and there are laws against such deals. If you truly feel that advertising is a "...disgusting artifact of our culture of greed..." then I can tell you have never been involved in actually starting/running/growing a business because without some form of advertising, typically it just won't happen. Now, you slam on capitalism is quite funny since there is a considerable amount of advertising in non-capitalistic countries...or haven't you been out much.
You are aware that Notepad is just a simple text editor with NO ability to persist data right? If that is what you are looking for, then I would suggest you look into something like Evernote or OneNote because those are intended to persist information like that.
Actually scientist think it infinity.....engineers will do if{} else {} to meet the specification....coders just catch the exceptions and return "unable to process".
Uhm....none of your arguments deal with the issue of patents. All of your arguments deal with MS abandoning technology which can be a pain but doesn't deal with the argument.
From my personal experience, it is the applications with GUI's that are painful at times to use, and this includes when the application has been running for quite some time so the JVM should have had plenty of time to make any/all optimizations.
Prove to me that their non-search services are inferior. They might inferior to you, but they aren't inferior to me. Now do YOU see the problem? Oh, that is right, you view is obviously correct for ALL people.
Actually CVV values are located in the track data which only proves you either have a copy of the card or the original. The second "fix" was CVV2 values which are printed on the back of the cards. This was to prove the card is in the hands of the person, but if that number has been comprised (which is darn easy) then all bets are off.
As someone who worked for ABB in the control systems division, I would have to COMPLETELY agree on this one. The joke we had was that they have the arrogance of the Germans, but none of the technical abilities.
That will never happen for us moron.

Very well stated. I wish I could add more, but I can't.
And that "app" is called .... are you ready for it .... TIME ZONES!

So to accept the Great Leaders great decision, do I have to get an ugly $2.00 haircut and gain 20 lbs in the gut to match the Great Leaders look?

Sheesh, ok. How about China and Myramar? I have never been to North Korea, but you can see tons of pictures of their cities with tons of shop signs.

No, we don't need any more legislation period. If you wish to live in a nanny state, by all means move to one because there are many to choose from.

Sorry, I was just making reference to my favorite quote from the movie Red by the actor John Malkovich that the parent comment reference.
"Moldova SUCKS!!!!"
Not sure actual numbers confirm your theory.

Actually if you are into rum, the I would suggest you try the rums from Guyana. My personal favorite is El Dorado 12-year old.
You make it sound like they don't recoup any money which they do. The question is how much is fair.

If it means anything, I am in agreement with how d-mn expensive it has become to watch the games live hence why I just don't go anymore.
