  1. PS Is expensive for a few reasons.. on Photoshop Fails At Counterfeit Prevention · · Score: 1

PS is expensive for several reasons, most noteably because its exclusive nature prevents it from being packaged with any popular hardware. Rarely do companies like Dell, Gateway, or even Kodac or FujiFilm package PHOTOSHOP in with their hardware and software packages, even though Photoshop is clearly the best Photo-editing software available.

Jasc PaintShopPro and other cheaper editing programs are hundreds of dollars less than Adobe's products because they get endorsement revenue from hardware companies that they under contract with.

  2. Named for when the finals take place--usually on Sports Titles Named Misleadingly? · · Score: 1

With the exception of baseball, all sports games are named depending on when the season ends. Madden 2004, while it comes out in August of 2003, is replicating the season that finishes with the Super Bowl in January/February of 2004. NBA Live 2004, while it comes out in November of 2003, replicates the season that ends with the NBA Finals in May of 2004. The only exceptions are baseball titles, which, by the way, EA Sports is trying to curb. They tried to do the same back with Triple Play Gold for the Sega Genesis, but sales went down because people would see a "1994" product and a "1993" product. The consumer would obviously go for the "most recent" title. EASports latest baseball game, "MLB MVP Baseball" was given the yearly title of "2003". Sales were expected to be lower, because it was going up against titles named "High Heat 2004" and "All Star Baseball 2004", but the buzz of the new series brought back former EASports baseball fans. Eventually, the baseball year will be the right year for all games... It's just a slow process. As for everything else, it's legitimate. Mike

  3. Do what Guster does... on The War Between p2p and Record Companies Heating Up? · · Score: 1

My favorite band of about 6 years, Guster, has a very nifty little system for music sharing. They're releasing a new album come June 24th, Keep It Together, and they've released all of the songs on Kazaa, but replaced the lyrics with "meow"'s, the songs are all labelled with the actual name, but have no voice.. Just Brian, the congeuro, using a "meow mix" machine that produces different pitches of "meow". It's been great though, because you get to hear the excellent instrument work, and the sound of the album... just to wet your wistle. They also released 5 of their new songs on their website in Flash formats... While I have already recorded them to WAVs and then encoded them to MP3 (for my personal use on my MP3 player), it will prevent most music listeners from ripping the songs from Kazaa or other P2P networks. 4. Re:Could be a new market... on Licensing Likenesses For Sports Games · · Score: 1

Michael Jordan is an example himself. In another post, I mentioned the Players' Assocations that release the likenesses and names for the players in a given sport, however, certain players opt not to be in the players association... The PA usually makes it so that athletes are paid fairly, get treated how they should, and have their opinions checked when a deal is going to be made with another team... Sports Stars, who know that they will be excellent--case in point, Michael Jordan, sometimes do not sign into the unions, and control their own destiny. While they lose out on some of the protective measures of the union, they do not have to sign off into many of the union's obligations (Union fees, PR appearances, their likeness being used without their direct approval)... Back in the day, MJ was never in any of the unions (since coming back to the NBA to finish his career, he has been, to get the veterans minimum incentive); and thus, no games actually had a Bulls player #23 named Michael Jordan (check NBA Live 95 - NBA Live 98: No Jordan, just a black guy, 6'6", #24 [Jordan also copyright his numbers because he had become so famous and because of the Nike incidents]... NBA Live 99 or 2000, I forget which, made a huge stink that they obtained Jordan for the game... Of course, this was after he had retired for the second time, so company's could use his likeness... It's a tricky thing. What you're referring to... MJ, I think he goes to [I can't remember which school. I wanted to say NCState, but it's not it... I just remember the Red color, or he graduated somewhat recently. My NCAA Basketball fanatic of a father would know... He didn't get drafted into the NBA, but he was a good player... That Michael Jordan was a 5'11" guard... And they can't buy his name, and then make him #23 on the Wizards, 6'6", and 200 what ever pounds... Well, they could, but they'd get sued out of their faces. 5. Nothing to worry about... on Licensing Likenesses For Sports Games · · Score: 1

Licensing would never become a serious concern for sports gamers. North American Sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, etc) all have some sort of players union (NFLPA, for instance). The Unions are the ones who sign away the likenesses of the players, not the leagues themselves, and any serious sports game developer would realize how crucial it is to have the likenesses of the athletes that they feature, and pay any amount of money to the Players Associations/Unions in order to use their actual names. If anybody remembers the original John Madden Football game for the Nintendo 64, the game featured the likenesses of the players (complete with names), but lacked the names, logos, and most things associated with the teams. They signed on with the NFLPA but not with the NFL Owners Club, or whatever it is... Teams were given generic, but hinted names (I think the N.E. Patriots were something like the "Boston Revolutionaries" or something similar) But, anyway, it's not a serious concern that any big name company will release a game where they do not have the names of the players, assuming that the sport featured in the game is one that features a players' union. Take a look at Half Life... That came would not be the most popular PC game of all time had Counter-Strike not been developed... And it was made completely by independent programmers, separate from Valve, Sierra, and Gearbox... I'm surprised nobody mentioned Half Life, which has the best mod-community of any game... ever. So I do GooPoetry, and I want a Beat-type poetry, and I want something on Apache Web Servers, so I type Apache Web Servers... and this is what I get "Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@buzztoolbox.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
