Considering the rate at which mosquitoes breed and die anyway I'm with the gp in that it wouldn't be a big enough advantage for natural selection to win out.
Off the top of my head when I was a network admin setting a static ip in win98 would cause the computer to go unresponsive for a while, require a restart, and sometimes work and sometimes not.
Sounds like the army encounters (on a more dangerous scale) one of the very same problems that the corporate world does. Loss of institutional knowledge.
Makes sense that they should try out systems similar to those that are being trialled in other areas to combat this problem.
Can anyone explain to me why Ayn Rand is so freaking influential? I keep reading the books in an attempt to see things from the other side but all I ever seem to come away with is "that was a crap book".
I love how we call our railways privatised in aus, taxpayer still owns and funds the rail and the rolling stock but we add a private company in there to (mis)manage it and skim cash off the top.
railways, water mains, power lines. Three things that no matter how much you throw "privatisation" at them there's simply no way to create competition.
The problem is somehow the word "exists" has worked its way into this discussion.
The model predicts that under a specific set of conditions a particular event will occur. The model describes this event in terms of a "Higgs Boson". If we can reliably duplicate those conditions and the event does not occur, then our model is broken.
That's the interesting bit. That something called a "Higgs Boson" does or does not exist is not a useful question.
Except Lincoln didn't have the money to do so until after the beginning of the Civil War when "necessity" allowed him to start the programs that gave him that money.
If the slave states were willing to secede to avoid having their rights overridden on slaves, would they not have done the same thing when he tried to take their money to pay for those slaves freedom?
Actually the numbers from december are in, and we saw a significant trend spike that has been wholly attributed to the 10bn.
Booze, smokes and pokies all have massive taxes on them, so if you're interested in the government recouping their money then that's a surefire hit. The idea that most people in Australia who make less than 100k are going to spend it on that is a bit absurd however.
Then you're thinking emotionally and not with your head, if governments are unable to act on a timeline longer than 4 years then they've got the same problem as the private sector and cannot act as a buffer.
Sending the government into debt is the most widely held view by economists on how you bloody well SHOULD fight a recession.
But I suppose you're one of those nutters who believes we shouldn't borrow money at an interest rate of basically zero (rate - future inflation) while people lose their jobs.
If it makes sense for companies with good future revenue and credit rating to borrow money to fuel growth why does it not make sense for governments to do the same when the private sector is incapable?

In every company I've worked for these two people wouldn't even be applying for the same jobs.
Masters would be coming in through the grad program, 2 years experience would be an experienced hire.
Experienced hires get automatic preference and skip the low-pay probationary period.
Anything that makes Aus look weird scary or stupid will invariably be pounced on by the British tabloid media.
See this is the problem, one guy who RTFA makes a joke, and those who didn't can't see a joke when it slaps them in the face.
Why do they have to be strangers?

It's a bug smartarse. Ubuntu has a full gui way of doing it that involves right clicking on the connection icon and going "edit connections".
It's always worked for me but apparently it doesn't work for this guy with 8.10 (which as pointed out isn't an LTS).
There are hundreds of forks of the linux kernel, every distribution has their own even.
Debian now supports a BSD variant kernel as well as linux.
Devs like uniform API's sure, but the reason for that is so we can swap and change parts.
It worries me that we give fallible people the ability to arrest, detain and fire weapons upon other people.
It worries me less that we give fallible people the ability to communicate.
Not to be curt, but "people suck" seems to be a catch all argument for anything government these days.
Sounds like the army encounters (on a more dangerous scale) one of the very same problems that the corporate world does. Loss of institutional knowledge.

Taking nothing away from your point, but it's certainly interesting that two of those three are really very liberal.

Steal $100, go to jail. Steal $1m, go to the Bahamas.
I think we can all learn an important lesson here.
Google don't want to provide free hosting for an app that pisses off one of their partners. BFD.
I hardly see the issue, the guys who wrote this app were surely aware that google wouldn't want to subsidise its distribution?
There's nothing stopping them just hosting it themselves.
... who voted for them DESPITE the stupid filter.
reality check: It was not possible for the liberals to continually shit on everyone under 30 and keep winning elections
Then your problem is "people". Not "technology"

That do?

The internet censorship was clearly stated before the election. Yes it's hair-brained, no it won't work, but they DID tell you they were going to try.
That Rudd is trying to "bring us into line with China" is a pretty ridiculous assertion based on one single thing.
Sure is lucky the ballot boxes only require numbers anyway, it's "Labor".
Did you miss the 80s and early 90s or were you just not here?
