I was using DMB, The Grateful Dead, and now adding Phish to my example...
They may be doing it to promote albums (at least in DMB's case) but b/c of the fact that they are actually good (and not some sort of bullshit artist that can't really perform live) they are going to end up having people buy their albums.
Take for instance a group I heard about last year. String Cheese Incident. I downloaded a few songs from Napster (they are a taper friendly band ahem). I liked what I heard, I went out and bought two albums. Now. I could have been the typical fuckwad and just burned my own copy of their studio stuff, but I prefered to buy it. I download their concert stuff from etree.org sites and enjoy.
IMHO touring is better for the artists to make money. As is Napster. They are getting the exposure they want.
If you don't agree that's fine, this is all my opinion, you can take it as you wish.
I do, and will only support bands that allow taping and distribution of their music freely. If the other artists out there don't agree w/that policy, I am going to continue getting what I want for free. Tough shit. The musicians on MTV's (or whatever) show about their huge ass houses and cars are obviously making plenty. I don't feel bad for them.
Sure, Dave Matthews Band gained popularity through tape-trading among colleges
this is exactly why I don't understand the problem w/Napster. The Grateful Dead were known for great concerts and shitty albums. They honestly didn't care about the money, they cared about the music (which I assume is why they are different from other bands, but the principle can be applied). Anyway, they were made popular by tape-trading. Not by the fucking music that they sold. Now. They spread their popularity through the free trade of their shows yet these fucking assholes are bitching that they won't make any money...
DMB has to be one of the biggest money makers ON TOUR. Every little college/teen wants to go see "Dave". Fine... He still allows the free trade of his music, and honestly, most of his fucking albums have been live shows.
If these artists would go on tour and stop whining, allow taping at their shows, and allow people to spread their music, their revenues would go up...
well I can't say that. For consoles I guess. I had a C64 for my game playing. A bit more expensive, but at least I didn't have to go buy/trade/rent games to play (CopyKit was my savior). It had much better graphics and sound. I was never a console controller lover either. Give me my god damn joystick anyday.:)
honestly, when you look at a 2D floor plan or even artistic representations of the rooms you don't get the full effect. Q3 has beautiful rooms and what not (I am not all that impressed w/Q2, nor am I impressed w/Q3's gameplay;) and it would certainly make the whole experience of looking around in a building a lot more interesting. Something similar to the 3D models of roller coasters...
remember what happened to Mr. Burns when they reanimated him...
or what happened to Stallone in Demolition Man... Do you really want to end up in a world where sex is through a helmet and you are doomed to eat rat burgers;-)
eheh, I didn't have a single clue to how fucked up I was. I was talking to Karl Marx about the "current" situation in the USSR (even though the flag had been taken down years ago). I honestly had no fucking clue I was wasted.
E... I have seen too many people seriously fucked up on it. Five bowls and two yellow motorollas later I was so wasted I just sat there thinking everyone was in fast forward... I couldn't get up off the couch and couldn't find my suckers... I came home at 5am and found my friend completely fucked up in bed. Her boyfriend wouldn't touch her so she was shaking and crying. Five people on the bed w/her holding her yet she said she was all alone and wanted to die. THAT IS NOT WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN ON E.
Uhhh.. hu hu... yeah beavis. Why don't you grow up and act like you have an IQ above 70. Oh thats right because its cool to do drugs. Ok.. gotcha
you need to realize something. there are people w/opinions other than your own that aren't under the mass brainwashing power of the government... I do drugs b/c I like to do drugs. I drink b/c I like to get fucking wasted and be stupid w/my friends. If you are against that, wonderful, I don't care to hear your opinion, take.35 and call someone who gives a fuck.
You insult and degrade the beliefs of a large portion of the population, then have the arrogance to say "Talk to the hand"??
basically. I don't even try to reason w/religious fanatics. We both have our opinions, no one is going to sway the other... In fact, I never try to sway those that are religious to believe me... Yet for whatever reason, there are always the fucknuts that really feel the need to tell me that I am wrong.
from now on, when someone says that they don't want to hear your opinion, just listen to them, they may end up being right...
when you are laying in that box rotting away for eternity going, I can't fucking believe I listened to my priest bitch about how much money we needed in the parish and believed the fucking crap they fed me, don't come crying your dry tears to me.
if you want to get fucked up and thing about crazy ass shit you do DMT or LSD. Mushrooms are bullshit for mind expansion. Yes, I have eaten, drank, and smoked them, I know. I have done DMT, I have done tons of acid, and I know where the answer to the universe lays: somewhere deep in the depths of an incredible trip on Ecstacy and LSD.
<offtopic> Although I don't recommend E anymore due to the recent horrible substances that have been substituted for it. E IS NOT SAFE ROLLERKIDS! </offtopic>
hoenstly, if you were to believe that the bible tells of the creation of the universe you are horribly wrong. no where in the Great Book does it mention anything other than Earth. We obviously know that there is more out there.
The god damn sun does not revolve around us, we revolve around it.
Women are not inferior to men (and flame me all you want, but that is what the bible is saying that they came from the breast of a man). WE CAME FROM WOMEN.
My take on Jesus is this. A lot of rumor, a lot of bullshit, and something very similar to Waco, TX. They beleived that what's his name was God's messenger... We/he killed him and the Jews killed Jesus (for breaking the laws just like Waco boy did).
Don't even bother to respond w/some sort of negative bullshit, I don't care to hear it. No-Op asked for my opinion here it is.
"Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and everyone's stinks..."
these are the questions I ask myself when I am completely fucked up. He needs to do some more acid and call me in the morning. He will understand all there is to know about the universe and why we are here.

I personally prefer the direct link... something like a "serial" cable, but "parallel" works as well;)
I completely agree... I would rather just mark "Neither" on the ballot and walk away. This will be my first presidential election and I must say I am completely hurt by the fact that there couldn't be a better candidate for the presidency than (as Jon said, "Dumb and Dumber"). There are plenty of great leaders out there, do we really have to pick the vice president and some governor every time?
If you're in on of the top 25 Metropolitan Areas in N.A., you might have a fiber line within a mile or so. Outside there, well, if you've got one within 10 miles, consider yourself lucky.
I think your assumption is wrong. I live in Bowling Green, OH. No where near a top 25 metro area. We have fiber running in town here. I also know that in Clarks Summit, PA we have fiber running along the railroad tracks behind our house... These are two VERY small towns that have direct access to large data pipes. I am not saying that we are able to access it (in BG we are, I know that they were talking about some ISP's getting a portion of the fiber) but it is none-the-less there and could be readily available.
in fact, I just tried to goto www.pimpwar.com and it told me I needed flash, fine.. Clicked ok, went to the page... fine. loads it up and fills the screen w/banners for the iPAQ.
I don't think that is the way it is supposed to work.
My honest opinion is that if you are going to release a milestone, it better have general working functionality. I want to be able to view my normal pages w/o a problem. Stop worrying about themes and such and work on the basics. That is my opinion though..
"seemingly well" was a misnomer. It sucks. Everything I attempt to do it crashes. I tried to import my Netscape bookmarks and it crashed, I tried to change some setup options and it crashed. Time for them to do some more work...
I actually couldn't stand the last version available for Linux, I run a dual 400 machine w/128mb and it was still slow. I just tried out the latest and it is MUCH faster and works seemingly well.
We work hard to build products that please most of our users most of the time.
it isn't like MS even gives a fuck about pleasing ANYONE. They kind of just force the software on you and make you like it (b/c there is really no alternative). I want an honest show of hands about who likes that fucking little guy in the corner of Office products that is there to "help" you. When you first started up Win95 did you really like the Start menu or the way that the screen looked? I know I didn't... I hate having the clutter of icons all over my desktop. I don't even like having the taskbar "hidden" at the bottom of the screen.
At least RH is giving us many options to make our systems the way we want them... Until they start mandating a single WM and a single way to setup partitions and programs, I say that they are superior to the MS model.
You can flame me all you like for being pro RH, but for someone who is more interested in having his system work w/o much effort (yes, I know how to setup and use other distributions) RH is good for me. I want to burn through the install w/o having to download this and that to make my system complete. RH is providing a service, they are making Linux easier to use for more people, if you aren't into that, fine... Go off and use Slackware or Debian, or whatever, but don't you dare complain about RH..
I read before that people actually like this new technology. Honestly, I don't like tactile feedback. I like the keyboards that have soft touch and make no noise.. I guess hearing my Northgate keyboard click away for years and years turned me off to that shit...
don't worry, they will just repost 20 old articles.. or even let someone else have the credit for those posts.
nope. The bands I mentioned weren't huge money makers, I am talking about other bands.
get a clue.
