  1. Re:Funny and insightful? on On eBay Addiction · · Score: 1

I can see where this would be a problem... Ebay has had me addicted for the past 6 months. I have been trying to save some money and get some used tape decks off there (Nakamichi)... I spend most of my freetime checking the time left and how much the bidding goes up. I get really pissed off when someone *dares* outbid me on an auction. I get annoyed when there are no pics, and reserves. It is just the Internet I try to tell myself, but the Ebay in my takes over, and back to staring at the time tick away I go.

A sad existence perhaps, but just another pitfall in the Internet world...

  8. Re:How MS Can Kill Linux on Will Linux have the same fate as Java? · · Score: 1

I don't think that they would ever even think of attempting this... Look at the possible ramifications:

    1. People see that MS has thought that a Un*x based OS is more stable than NT and flock to other (non-MS based) Unices b/c if NT isn't good enough, "MSnix" wouldn't be either.

    2. If they do, NT will fail, and since MS's basic future plan is to run the world on Win2k+ and this will lead to the eventual demise of MS!

    3. Someone mentioned in another article that MS will just make all the libs incompatible... That would be ridiculous. That wouldn't stop the non-MS Linux users. They would find a work around and make "MSLinux Is Not Linux" ;-) and we would again be running the "standard" applications... Plus, I really don't think that having proprietary libs would do them any good, too many new applications would need to be written.

Another worthless .02 from me :)

Firstly, I don't need a multiuser operating system for my PDA. Why waste precious space with useless code? The same goes for other great Linux

Most people don't. Linux for the PalmPilot/etc, isn't to *run* Linux on it. It is to show that Linux *can* be ported to nearly any device w/o extreme amounts of trouble. It is just to do it, not to actually use it for something useful.

As far as having another OS for PDA's... I really don't see the need. PalmOS runs REALLY well, really FAST, and does EVERYTHING everyone wants it to do.

I really don't understand the point of having "high-speed Internet Access" on a PDA. I have a desktop, I have a laptop, I goto a college, I can check my email from anywhere. Unless they are going to get it to hook up to the wireless microwave T1's in Phoenix, I don't see the point...

These "kids" became known as "Darkheads". They ruined what the Grateful Dead were all about. If we continue on this pace, the Linux community in general (a group of fun loving nerds that want nothing else but to help out the newbies, and move Linux furthur into the future). The media always looked down on the GD for these Darkhead-caused riots, and gave really bad press... We don't need that same kinda deal going on here.
