You're seriously joking right? This "review" was a biased advertisement stroking the right-wing conservatives egos that their missionary-position bi-monthly sex acts are acceptable and even encouraged while their co-workers' healthy and exciting sex life is deviant and unacceptable.

Personally, the Internet itself (broadband and all that as well) is a *huge* technology and has changed the landscape and interactions of the world.

What are these effects? The book devotes chapters to this, and I can summarize only very briefly. For many people, porn has quasi-addictive characteristics, requiring escalation to maintain a constant level of stimulation. It dampens empathy, it changes expectations, and it damages relationships. The interviews in the book back this up; it contains example after example of people who started with modest porn searching online, then graduated to more heinous stuff.

What the fuck is this garbage? I've been with the same woman for nearly five years and just married her this weekend. If anything, porn has STRENGTHENED our relationship through mutual viewing.

Are they trying to say that porno searching online is a "gateway" to become some sort of "sexual deviant"? Give me a fucking break. Just because people's conservative sexual knowledge and behavior is the prevailing behavior (and IMHO negative) it doesn't mean that "graduating" to a different behavior is heinous.

I'm sorry, but 100 people aren't going to tell the tale of ALL those that enjoy porn either in solitary viewing or in group situations. I'd like to read this pile of shit and actually give a true account of the book rather than an obviously biased and conservative viewpoint on it.

Additionally, what sort of actions do other Slashdot users take to protect themselves from rogue IP space, be it national borders or even retail broadband/dialup providers such as wannadoo or comcast, roadrunner, etc?

I have an extensive ban list on my firewall including tons of /8 and /16's but mostly /24's. If someone cannot e-mail me it's because they are likely using a residential cable/DSL account and I suggest to them to either use AIM or a viable webmail service like GMail (hotmail and yahoo are banned).

I am an individual. I don't run a corporate network and I am not required to put up w/a bunch of shit from other people. Don't like it? Oh well, I'm unconcerned. This particular Ask Slashdot might be pertaining to something else but the blurb wasn't really clear.

If it were up to me, I would want entire countries in their own easy to block IP address space. Want to block .br? Here's the single block that does it. Want to block .kr, .cn, and .nz? Go for it. Right now it's entirely too difficult and it requires some real work to do what you need to do.

After moving off of Comcast for residential DSL through a respectable provider I find that I don't have worms constantly hitting my machine. I don't have as many attack attempts and I certainly am not blocking quite as much spam. I long for the day when I don't have to add another .0/24 to the firewall list.

The only reason I can think of for all this Machiavellian maneuvering is that the TCG board of directors is making sure that the document doesn't apply to Vista. If the document isn't published until after Vista is released, then obviously it doesn't apply.

It's not going to stop worms, spyware, viruses, and the like - they are going to continue to plague people's computers - it's all part of the desensitizing of DRM. Get people pissed off enough about spyware, etc, and they will be happy to accept DRM.

It's really sad that most people still don't know what spyware is or how to defeat it. When they do hear of it they see this "DRM" stuff in the future that will eliminate it.
