First I hear that 99.1 HFS in Washington D.C. changed over to a Mexican Radio station today. And now officialy Tech TV is dead. The world is coming to an end, haha. But seriously this really sucks. Screen Savers died when they got those two new hosts that suck and just talk about games all the time now. Now they are getting a show called Formual D (rip off of Initial D). Don't even get me started on this. I am a huge auto sport fan, and race my cars myself (not drag strips, real races). I respect what japanese drivers do drifting down mountain sides like in initial d, its not the fastest way to drive, but takes a lot of skill. And here in America they not only turned initial d into a horrible Fast and the Furious show with the edited/cut Dubbed (english language) version. But also in real life all americans do is drift around in circles on a big open concrete parking lot. Its like all americans do is drive fast in a straight line (fast and the furious) or go in circles (nascar). America is just sad when it comes to autosports.
I hope they don't get rid of the usenet archive, that thing is a life saver for me and fellow IT workers. I don't think their is a better collection of help anywhere on the internet. If Google Groups goes it will be a sad day in Internet histroy and Google will loose a lot of my respect.
I can't believe whats going on in the world today, it seems like privacy is disapearing off the face of the planet. Why are their so many accidents on the roads today, not because of fast drivers but because of bad drivers. The united states has one of the worst driver education programs in the world, and that translates to one of the worst accident and death rates in the world. Look at Germany, and many other european countries, they all have faster speed limits and way less accidents and deaths. Is it because they have more monitoring, NO. Its because their driver education programs actually teach you how to drive. If a sign says 65 mph here in the USA people will go at whatever speed they feel comfortable at. You ever see those signs that say max recommend speed limit 15 mph going around a turn. Well their is a big difference between a Semi Truck and a Ferrari, how can they only say one speed limit for the both of those. The Ferrari could safely make that turn at 35, and the truck at 15. We don't need more monitoring in the USA and more loss of privacy, we need better educated drivers. How would you like if the government equiped a chip on your computer that would send all the links you went to, to a group of servers where it sorted through and if you went to a site on their black list you would be sent a fine or maybe sent to jail. Its the same thing, people want freedom on the roads, and freedom on the internet.
I forgot to add, I think this should be applied to apple as well, I am not one to play favorites so if Windows has to have a clean distro, I think the Mac OS should as well. Hell why not make it opperate on non proprietry hardware while your at it, not only do they force people to use their software like MS, they also force you to use their hardware.
I agree, although what the EU is doing is pointess, just taking out Media Player is not going to do anything, and consumers wont get a price decrease. Not to mention Media Player actually is a decent media player on Windows so its kind of a loose loose situation for consumers. I mean have you ever seen real player, that thing is bloated to all hell, hehe. I just download the codecs and use it with media player classic, clean and simple. but thats off topic. Basiclly most people here will agree this ruling will have little to no effect on MS and will only make things difficult for run of the mill consumers.
The reason it was sarcasim was because the everyday consumer doesn't really care what notepad he has, or what calculator he uses, or even what media player they have. They just want it to play whatever media files are on the internet that they might come across. I think this is one of the reasons why linux isn't more popular, because the everyday person doesn't want to research and find what media player is best and then have to install it. Or what textpad to use, or calculator, or even internet browser. The majority of people want all they can get wrapped up into one package, makes their life easier, and I agree to a point. It takes time to learn and research and find other programs, time I don't allways have, and time 95% of the world doesn't have either. I think MS should have a baseline windows, for like 50% off retail price maybe, that a user can pick if they want. Unless the user asks for it, I think most people will be willing to pay extra to have everything preinstalled and ready to go. Its all about ease of use, If you know how to use it on your computer you can go just about anywhere else and use it on another, thats what MS provides.
I think the EU is going in the wrong direction, saying MS has to unbundle Media Player is the stupidest thing I have heard of. If thats the case all OS's should unbundle Media Players, Mac's, Linux, whatever. Why play favorites, aren't they trying to make things equal. Maybe they should unbundle notepad and calculator as well, their are 3rd party applications out there. Hell I don't even use the newest media player, I use media player classic. But I have to say its nice to have common apps installed as soon as the OS is installed, so you don't have to go searching and downloading all this stuff. What if you don't have access to the internet what are you going to do then? Their is a reason MS bundles these, to make it easy for users. by removing any applications they just make it really really hard for consumers.
Yes they should have an option to uninstall anything you don't want. *sarcasim* --> But I say why stop with MS and Media Player, I say NO OS's should bundle any Apps, No quicktime on Mac's, no Notepad in Windows, no OS's can't have any application pre-installed if their is a 3rd party version out there. *end sarcasim* What the hell is wrong with people, this won't hurt MS at all, only hurts us and fellow consumers.
