    Even if the Athlon64 and Opterons were identical it would still be more profitable to sell one full-featured chip and one chip that has been "crippled". By offering two versions of the chip you can charge a lot for the fully-featured chip to business and hobbyist. At the same time budget conscience people will by the lesser version at a lower price. There is a term for this practice it is called "price discrimination". For example the cable company charges more for the deluxe package.

    Methane can be used to generate hydrogen and according to a fortune magazine article "Today 99.5% of the methane consumed in America is produced in the U.S. and Canada" Granted CO2 is a byproduct but at least it's not CO2 produced from oil held by madmen.

    The busses will be delivered in july 2004. The three test buses, each worth about $3 million, will operate in a variety of settings including hilly areas, on trunk lines that carry more than 20,000 riders a day through densely populated neighborhoods, and on the Transbay Express service to San Francisco, where speeds can reach 65 mph. This should give a good indication of the state of fuel cell technology.

    I enjoy having media player come with windows, but it does give Microsoft even more power in the industry. The long term cost to consumers from this market power could be greater than the short-term cost of further separating Media Player. Secondly, Microsoft does need provide more information to third party software developers. According to this article at ZDNet http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t297-s2121402,00. html "Microsoft used undocumented application programming interfaces (APIs) to make the company's software work better with Windows than competitor's" products. This is an example of the anti-competitive behavior Microsoft exhibits.

    This company had an add campaign several years ago which featured death row murders as the spokesmen. This is brutally insensitive to the families of those they murdered. This was a shameless attempt to generate publicity. As a result of their campaign their largest retailer, Sears, dropped Benetton's products (which is commendable). We should all do the same.
