FX even goes as far as adding sound to the swirling logo(which BTW takes up half the screen and isn't that transparent).

In the middle of some FX show I got a firetruck horn which has no correlation to the show I am watching, it was part of the onscreen promo for "Rescue Me".

Was this a case of TV adverts learning from internet popups?

  2. Less testing more Teaching on Math Skills Survey Shows U.S. Lags Behind · · Score: 1

With the "no child left benhind" act every second grade teacher needs to give multiple hour tests ONE-ON-ONE to every student in her class, many times during the year. During this "testing," no learning is being done. The other students are left to be babysat by the teacher's aid and what is the student being tested learning, NOTHING. What for? how does this help the children or society?

When you limit the availability of knowledge it only stops the honest people from obtaining it- the people that will use the information in a negative manner are the ones that will circumvent those limits and will obtain it. So, by limiting access you are only giving the bad guys a headstart, because while they are hard at work brewing up killer viruses the scienitfic community as a whole is held back and unable to prepare for any possible threat. When you empower the scientific community and the public you take power away from the terrorists.

All the current man vs. machine matches are really man vs. programmers. It proves nothing about the computer, it shows that a grandmaster can play chess better than a bunch of programmers can code. But if the computer learns a game(be it chess or any other) and developes its own strategy, then we are getting closer. Then, if the computer has the ability to rewrite and modify itself; evolve past the designs of the humans, then we have have a real game on our hands.

Use old glass jars with metal screw on lids. Affix the lids to any low ceiling(basement); a couple of sheetrock screws will work just fine. Then you can fill the jars with anything you like; screws, nails, RJ45 jacks, etc. and screw them to the ceiling.

  8. The Perfect ending on Blakes Seven To Return · · Score: 3, Insightful

B7 challenged TV viewers by constantly focusing on the dark themes surrounding unbeatable opression. And in the end they had the guts to finish it on a minor chord which solidified its distopian vision. With that ending it became a noir classic, and I don't want to see that screwed up by adding a "Phantom Menace" years later
