I would suggest that Vista is Apple's copland and MSFT just kept on beating the dad horse instead of doing something different.
Of course Vista was supposed to be this great OS with modulazation, a real command line, a fancy database file system, that ran older windows apps in a fancy VM(Virtual PC anyone?).
MSFT broke those promises, Windows 7 will have lots of hope but it too will fail. MSFt management is stuck in a rut and that won't change until all the managers do.
Yes but voice processing is done best by dedicated hardware rather than generic. would a voice chip that can do that processing and only that processing be far more efficient? Call it the VPU, it can go next to the GPU, PPU. or it can be one of the 8 cores surrounding a cell processor. The trend that generic processors can do everything will end. maybe a plug and pray architecture where you can pick which cores you want installed on your system.
it is a glass table, a mirror, a projector, and something similar to a wii remote. Add in some software, mostly to allow for multi-touch and your done.
several researchers have been doing this for years. MSFT is just the first big name to commericialize it. other companies have been selling the same thing for years.
Also MSFT's table is useless in brightly lit rooms. It needs a darkened room in order to be seen clearly.
Question though define making money off of your work?
I fI create a compilation CD and sell that does that count as making money? What if I am a DJ, and the format you distribute your work under isn't compatible with my systems, So I change your copy to MP6 so that it plays better on my system, is this a change? While I am getting paid for your music if we remove your music I am still getting paid. define distribute as well. is listening to music out loud at a park considered distribution? The music industry thinks so.
My old(as in previous) boss is finally retiring at the age of 80. he was still working a 55-60 hour work week.
He didn't need the money, but did it so he wouldn't get bored. I have another friend who is 63 has 4 seasonal jobs to keep himself busy and gives him just enough extra cash to play. he doesn't need the work, but he works to keep himself going.
You don't have to stop hard when you retire, you just change priorities.
I am hoping one or two countries stand up and say that how this standard was passed shows that all ISO standards are worthless.
With dozens of countries reporting massive voting problems they had better not pass it, or at least switch those countries from yes to abstain until future reference. Norway had the majority vote againist the standard but still voted yes, Poland, germany, France all had voting irregularities. I hope the EU launches an Anti-trust investigation into MSFT's business practices on it. that would be so much fun to watch.
the locate feature is absolutely useless to me. there aren't enough wi-fi access points to be any good.
Besides i don't want GPS built in. As GPS uses a ton a battery power. I want a Bluetooth, or other dongle that occasionally sends GPS data. Why can't I get a car dock, with a built in GPS receiver? Just plug the iPhone in I can listen to tunes, hook up the bluetooth to my car's bluetooth headset, and have driving map to go by all from one device.
Unfortunately the SDK, and Apple's EULA's prevent exactly that from ever happening.
actually it would only have to happen once or twice, People would start to realize that biometerics are useless for confirming Identity. DNA now that is good, and it is something difficult to duplicate. Now all we need is field DNA testing and database of DNA to compare to. Of course knowing the government said Database would run windows be comprised, and i get to be Brad Pit, by DNA testing.
Firefox 2, and Safari both do this to different extents now.
If you type in a URL you have already visited up comes a list, including websites from your bookamrks(safari), it is useful though some of the other apps just sound dangerous.
Weave while a good idea, means a central server somewhere which will either be loaded with adds(google or MSFt hosting it?) or you hosting it and that means configuring a server yourself.
try dodging a police helicopter. Same thing only closer to the ground.
by the way if your flying VFR 500' above Miami city streets your going to go to jail anyways. Hell even at 1000' I would be worried. How tall is the tallest building in miami?
For the most part smaller computers have replaced the mainframe. but until your PC can keep on going when the power supply and one of the CPU's short out Mainframes will still be around.
If you want reliability you have to have a very redundant system.
desktop PC's are very far away from doing that in both hardware and software.
currently Astronomy lacks a utilitarian nature. If we ever figure out FTL travel, Astronomy will be a much needed utilitarian subject.
Until that time we need to learn as much as possible, as well as develop 3D modeling systems to show us what the stars could look like from other angles.
It does at my work. Dos POS apps running on netware 3.12. sometimes I cry, but then again our entire system only uses 383 megabytes of HD, for 22 years worth of sales data.
Under Clinton the Budget deficit would be nearly gone by now. The forecasts were for 10 years to be eliminated. Even if that got stretched to 15 because of the down turn, it would a lot better than doubling it like Bush did.
There was a chance to clean up the future. Now the only way is to collapse the economy and rebuild. preferably with a new government first.
The only reason MSFT has to do this though is because of the mess MSFT created with ActiveX controls. No one else is as vulnerable as MSFT is because no one else is dumb enough to use activeX, an Pi with total and complete remote control over your computer. Grated MSFT has been locking it down over the years, but it wasn't designed to be secure to begin with, and as such runs into numerous problems now.
It is also easy to use shields, and angles to limit the amount of light going up, and only light up the areas that you need to. Besides reflects let you use a lower wattage and still light up the same area.
it also affects drivers, and pilots as well. In some regions airports have pushed for local laws to limit light pollution going up into the sky as it interferes with planes landing. Spot lights can temporary blind drivers causing accidents.
Light pollution isn't so much about astronomy but being able to see when it is dark out, because some idiot is lighting up his yard like fen way park. At night less is more. I can use 5 watt 12 volt bulbs and light up your house better than spotlights. more of the house will be lit with less random dark spaces, and more importantly less shadows in which people can hid.
It is a government agency with an already bloated setup. just how effective do you think it will really be?
People are worried about big brother scenarios. If this was the UK maybe, but no this is the land of pork barrel projects galore. As such I am not worried. they will spend billions and achieve a semi working prototype that needs to be rebooted every 6 hours.

Well they will get his IP, and then his address from his ISP. A cruise missile to those coordinates would be a simple response.
Use Satellite video feed to see when all the cars registered to said person are parked in the driveway.
The big trick is I don't see that much cooperation in the Government.
That or this years news was just so sad that it was true anyways. Like the OOXML vote. Now there is a Joke.
That sound you just heard was the joke going over your head.

This years articles are hidden and hiding in weird locations.
I have come across several of them so far.

when fedora and Ubuntu comes out they too will get posted.
other than that Apple makes great random filler for the editors that always generate ad pageviews.

I can understand people not reading the article but can't people even read the comments?
over half the people posting thinks this is a stupid idea in general, with maybe one or two good points about it.

Yea but it is a lot better than when Stallman says pretty please with a cherr on top while wearing a pink Hoola skirt, and a Poodle dog sweater.
Now that your mind is fried, I am going to steal your code.

anyone want to start a revolution with me?
