    screw all these whingers bleating about their pathetic use of computer for firefox and email - no one gives a crap that you only need a joke of a computer. just leave this stuff to us REAL MEN who use our large processing power.

    I placed an order yesterday for a dual quad core xeon with 24gigs of memory and 10k rpm scsi drives. and that's just to tide me over until my real machine arrives (waiting on availablity of the 6 core systems - my project can't wait).

    mind you i'm using this to model the process of extracting resources from about 1000sqr km of dirt.

    and news flash for you - linux is STILL the underdog, you've got next to no market share on the desktop which is ubuntu's target market. this illusion that linux is somehow winning is hurting you all more then helping, and frankly this is a brillant move by ubuntu because it'll mean their shit finally works with the most popular video format on the web.

    I agree 100% with you. the haters are just jealous, end of story.

    I work at a company with a market cap of 1B+, and we also receive bonuses, and i also agree it doesn't make you cut any corners. TFA completely fails to realise is a lot of these bonuses are tied to KPI's that you don't have direct control over anyway - they aren't like a sales quota.

    I to think the experiment is horribly flawed but not for that reason. offering more money doesn't decrease motivation at all, offering more money with NO RISK OF FAILURE is a demotivator.

    TFA just wants to push buttons and pander to popular opinion, but the reality is that it's more complex then "omgz wall st guys are lazy". i'd be shocked if anyone on wall st worked less then 14 hrs a day.

    You are of course right that this is helping labor buy votes in the senate. however i'm not at all convinced that they wouldn't go ahead anyway. Labor are the bigger bunch of control freaks compared to the liberals, you have to remember almost his whole cabinet are union bosses, they like to have everything their own way. The Howard government commisioned research into filtering options, where a national filter like the one labor is proposing was ruled out for techincal reasons. thats when the filtering software program was introduced.

    if both either party could swing it, i think they would, just looking at the facts Labor want it that little bit more.
