obviously you've never written any computer system for the general public. no one will check their ballot, and if it misprints a single ballot, all the ballots before it must be discarded because who knows how long it was misbehaving? that system is ripe for the picking.

atleast with electronic paper, you know for sure that each ballot was marked by the person casting the vote. oh, and you never once mentioned that you'd use the paper ticket for counting, so you've only got yourself to blame for people not interpreting it correctly.

why not just use paper then? hell of a lot simpler and cheaper.

how does that paper assure you the recorded vote is saved in the system is the same as what the paper says? it doesn't.

the only form of electronic voting i can see working is a system of electronic paper, which lets you press directly on the box you want and fills it. you deposit it in the secure box as normal and it's then counted by a machine, advantage being that it's digital so your counter won't run into false positive problems like with pencil, and it's still human verifible like paper.

you quote "what does Bob Dylan know about what music sounds like" like it's something i actual said. that wasn't my point and wasn't what i said at all and you damn well know it. my point, was that after 30 - 40 years on stage bob dylans hearing definately shot to pieces, aside from the fact he is an old man and even naturaly would have lost many many audible tones.

"The digitization of the analog signal is what destroys information, resulting in distortion when the analog is reconstructed later."

i will pay that that might have been an issue in the 80's, but not now. do you really think your losing more audible tones through digital conversion hardware then your losing via a needle scratching over a piece of plastic?

as others posted, many drugs cause hearing loss. i suggest you stfu from here on in.

my whole problem with the 800lb gorilla anology when applied to google, is just HOW is google going to control how we use our pc's?

the only way they can do that is to make the best product. they can't threaten suppliers with higher OS prices like MS did if they tried to sell OS/2. they can't write in subtle incompatabilities to prevent uptake of standards.

if google started whacking great big annoying ads in gmail and search, i'd just move to another provider in the blink of an eye. no money lost, no inconvienence.

i don't believe for a second that someone like bob dylan who has been exposed to a million billion decibles over the last 30 years, not to mention all the drugs, still has enough hearing left to tell.

furthur more, on a technical level cd's use a lossless uncompressed format which should be a perfect reproduction of what was mixed. not to say that standards in mixing and recording aren't down, but don't try knock the technology that's used ok?

also your police vs crime analogy is a moronic over simplification of the situation - police prevent many many different crimes, which one are you reffering to that we should give up on? ok i'll pick for you - someone carrying a small amount of cannabis, we won't ever stop it and it's very low impact (just like copying a movie) so yes police should stop worrying about pety crap like that.
