you have one already, it's called SSN, it's on everything important and it can be easily used to track your information. a national centralised database of your health care records could easily save your life if your admitted to an ER one day unconsious and they are about to give you something your allergic to (for example). privacy concerns only arise when police are allowed access to those records without a court order etc. on such a sensitive thing, i feel none of that information should be accessable without your signature, court order or not. and no, not even for matters of national security either.

it's already been identified that the majority of OSS gets developed outside of the USA, i think you will find america's court system and patent laws are going to result in doing software business inside the USA to become very unpopular through the next decade. you'll end up with only massive corperate entities like MS able to cope with these entry barriers, and if you think you can rely on companies like MS for innovation......

there's a miriad of good single board pc's out there in standard form factors such as pc104. none of them run at 1 ghz though, but i doubt that's really going to be an issue in the types of applications these things are used in bar multimedia.
here in aus there's a lot of companys that will relocate workers all expenses paid, mostly due to the resources boom. i wouldn't work for a company like that imagine what'd be like once they have you by the balls.
duh you won't see a difference at 1080i, because hd dvd is supposed to be 1080p, they are cutting you back to 960p or something and your tv is upscaling it to 1080i

the problem with urban sprawl is that it takes 1 hour to get to work and back meaning people are late home and early to leave resulting in them being less inclinded to cook a proper meal and more likely to eat take out "because i can't be bothered" is the classic. if you want a real solution to obesity it starts with schools providing healthy meals, and continuing on at the work place. hell think how much it'd be worth it to get an extra hours work out of people just so they stay at work to finish up and have dinner before heading home.
