    the reason is because the VOTING public don't want it. once the students and younger generation become old enough that they actually turn up to cast their vote, they've had enough life experience that they've figured out more drugs isn't the answer to society's problems

    the answer my friends is BABIES. dispite what popular culture has tried to tell you, you can't have a high powered career AND children successfully. There just aren't enough hours in the day so you can neglect your kids (which people do do but it comes back on them eventually) or you can drop hours at work which is going to affect your career, and probably limit your upward movement.

    and all you 20 somethings, wait till you hit 30 and you realise you've only got 5 years left in you to have kids. my partner was never that interested in kids and she's about to have her 30th and it's nothing but talk about babies all of a sudden.

    I've been all over europe and the USA. i have to say Australia has the same standard of living as the USA (if not better in many places), and a much better standard than many european countries.

    the only place i would consider living besides australia would be new zealand, the greek islands or canada. places i'd never live would be russia, or anywhere in africa.

    All you people that think china has america by the balls have it back to front.

    China is SHITTING itself that america might not be able to pay back all those debts, they recently became nervous about this and it's seen in them asking for reassurance that their investments are safe. After all america still has a military that could easily repell any hostile advances, so exactly what recourse do you think china is going to have if america really starts to pack it in? the USA will just tell china to wait for it's money like a good boy.

    really it's in china's best interests to play nice with america as it's their number one customer, without them china's rise is finished as their own domestic demand can't support the double digit growth they have been enjoying (as seen in their 8% figure)

    i've always imagined it's like a camping trip that lasts forever. there's a few homeless guys getting around my home town but, they have bank accounts and money (lined up at the bank with one of them once)? i can only conclude they walk around the streets looking crazy because they want to.

    the classic one anti GM nut jobs bring up is "would you eat pork with human genes in it", and i guess there will be similar objections raised over this. they try to imply it would make you a cannibal and other nonsense, ignoring the fact we already share genetic code with pigs.

    in a nut shell, i'd support any form of genetic experiementation that does cause undue distress or suffering on an animal. call me a soft lefty, but i just can't stomach unwarranted suffering of animals. i feel worse for them than i do for most humans, because they don't understand what's happening and certainly don't bring it on themselfs.

    once i was asked if i supported harvesting organs from animals to save people - I do, but only if it's done in a humane manner and the animals don't suffer. after all if we can't protect animals from cruelty what chance is there we will do the same for our fellow man?

    in that case it'd probably be easier (and cheaper/ more reliable depending on where you live) to build your own power plant. natural gas would be the logical contender, i wouldn't even want to think about trying to organise that kind of juice to a new location.

    define massive, i've worked in petro chemical plants so my idea of massive energy use is a power plant using more than 60 terajoules of natural gas a day?

    if your talking a cluster of 100kva diesel gensets then sure it might well take a few months to have it all up and running. i would have thought getting those fat network links to a telco would be the major challenge.

    there's shitloads of empty building space out there. the only real limitation you might have is prime locations near major pipes, but even if this is the case high speed microwave links are pertty cheap.

    hell there are plenty of data center in a sea container concepts out there you could rent a bit of parkinglot if you had to.

    maybe they wanted to compare apples with apples? it's hard to imagine a comparison that everyone would be happy with. if windows 7 beats linux an any given benchmark (which i'm sure it would in some) the linux crowd will just boo hiss and proclaim you forgot option X, proudly declaring the comparison invalid. i can't say i blame them for staying away from that one.

    And in benchmarks linux beats windows in, you'll have the windows crowd screaming murder because windows 7 isn't finished yet.

    fuck getting in the middle of that gun fight....

    that's really an apples and oranges comparison. sure the catholic church is guilty of some horrible shit, but in our life times it's pretty moderate. tarring them with the same brush as SOC isn't fair, either that or your under informed on the SOC policies such as "fair game"

    the easiest solution is to destroy all data as part of your corporate policy. after all they can only ask you for what you have, so unless there is a legal or business reason to store data, destroy it.

    you don't make any point in your ramblings, you merely give another example of government waste - the highway system with failing bridges.

    government blows money because they won't run out as a result of poor decisions - they just tax us more. government departments ALWAYS spend their full budget even if it's wasted, because next year it will be cut if it's not all spend, no incentive to be efficent (see above, no risk of going otu of business)
