I build my firewalls with either CD-ROM drives or read only NFS mount points.
None of my firewalls first of all have any hard disks in them or floppy drives.
Only CD-ROM drives or no drives at all.
You're not wrong, but I haven't seen anyone mention this yet:
A lot of SCSI drives have a jumper to set them "read-only". This can't be circumvented in software, and you still get the speed benefits of using a disk! This article has given me the push to get the firewall out of my desktop which is dual-booting anyway, and onto a separate machine. I'm thinking of only allowing logins on the spare serial port as well, so that once it's set up, simply unplug the serial cable for a little additional security. thoughts?
Hint: The world is round and it is a different time at different places on it. For all you know it could have been posted two or three weeks ago -/. has been pretty sluggish lately.
I'm sure we'll agree that the poster is deluded about this. What was (in my opinion) a crap article, was no doubt edited by a human. The reference to Lesbian Porn was unnecessary, would likely get the article blocked just for that, and would have been just as effective to refer to anything else somebody has 22,000 of.
Stream ALL incoming http content through it. Employ a Sun Fire 15k just for this purpose.
I'm soooo tempted to add the n) ??? n+1) Profit!! but you get the picture.
Go on, prove him wrong an implement it. Run your script on the very page you're reading now, at -1 threshold. See how long it takes. Sorry. I agree with the grandparent - difficult You admit yourself: "Sometimes it wouldn't make sense" and that's already not good enough.
The entire of slashdot.org got blocked for me the other day after I followed a link in someones.sig. It belonged to "IH8Apple", whatever it was upset our firewall/filter so it also blocked the referrer. I get this all the time, and it's a pain.
Not that it's my god given right to surf at work, but as far as my boss is concerned, if everythings done at the end of the night I can do what I damn well please.
Admittedly the grandparent didn't pay attention to this, but I don't think the printing of "N/A" in the signature block is a complete indemnety either, Particularly if if the applicant's name had have been "Nancy Adams" or somesuch. The word "VOID", even if neatly printed in the signature box might not either be declined, especially for one Mr Void.
At the end of the day, you can't prove you put it in the trash in the first place. Placing things in the trash has a different meaning wherever you are. Empty cartons etc eventually wind up getting picked up by a rubbish truck, and any paper that is individual to me or a small group gets burned. It's not really in the trash if you don't empty and dispose of the trash, is it?
Oh absolutely. All the time - it's killing me! People aren't sueing these days. They're just linking their sites on/. and burning their servers to the ground.
So I suppose that's what the original poster can do,/. 'em back.

"Ah, we deliberately crashed his computer and came in an hour later. He hadn't reset it."
Okay, so you can look at the time on the PC, which cannot be doctored to tell when the computer went down. Again, he may have been busy since the computer crashed and not noticed. In any case, my point is, that's not the way to fire someone. Just because the computer in front of them and not responding, with a time of about an hour ago on the desktop clock, well, would you want to be fired on those grounds? Idiot remark right back at you.
I call bullshit on that!
You can't fire someone because you intentionally crashed his computer! What if he restarted it, worked for an hour and it hung again before you saw him?
Either you actually did this, and exposed your company to a lawsuit, or you're a 13-year-old who hasn't got any idea how to send a ping-o-death.
Thanks, I've heard in the past that breathing 100% oxygen was hazardous, and wondered if that was what you meant, aside from the fact that it's very dangerous to be around.
Now that I've read the HSW article I understand why, thanks again.
Flouride as a preventative measure against cavities was first discovered by the dentists.
and later...
In fact, IIRC, the effect of fluoride on dental care was discovered when someone (anthropologists?) realized that people in some regions had excellent teeth in spite of poor general dental hygiene.
You lost me there, maybe you don't "RC" after all. Okay, people were convinced that fluoride was good for [their teeth], does not mean it is. Fluoride in the water is a different kettle of fish. Okay maybe they've found prehistoric remains with great teeth, now show me someone living in a state with fluoridated water with excellent teeth despite no dental care.
Oh yeah, and if I catch any of you fluoride offtopic modders in M2, I'm gonna slap you with an "unfair".
It was mentioned in the blurb, admittedly in a confusing manner. The editor was a dork for letting it go through like that, but in any case, people are going to talk about what they read in the blurb. Throw a stupid analogy in there, and you'll get a lot of discussion about it. Since when, even on/., is the heading offtopic!?
Fluroide is one of the most highly produced toxic waste products. Putting it in the water, and convincing people it's good for them was a very clever trick.
A while ago my employer "invested" in biometric systems that profile the back of ones hand. Needless to say, almost 80% of employees refused to use them.
And for some reason I never got them working properly (it was my job to), maybe something to do with popularity among my coworkers.
At present we use timesheets, and that's why staff are reluctant to use a computerised system, because for so long they've been getting away with leaving an hour early at night, without it being any detriment to the work! But the company insist they remain for their whole shift even if they finish hours early, and they wonder why the animosity...

Well then you're offtopic, because the articles is about Windows systems. How was the grandparent to know you weren't referring to them?

Why doesn't Portland fluoridate their water? Not good enough for them?
Could you explain how "Oxygen kills" or provide a link please?
