I see the same thing, I have the FIOS service and I do not see Verizon actively throttling the bandwidth at all, it's the target sites in general doing the throttling.
I was actually impressed to see that a download flash game at nick.com hit over 6Mb/s incomming. You can have the biggest download pipe in the world, but it won't change how sites send the packets to you. There are more limitations then just your internet connection
The PS2 I have is inbetween those, the DVD playback is fine and looks like how DVD playback should look. The remote I have is terrible like it can be used as a controller for the games and the DVD player.
It does make a decent DVD player though and does the job. My argument was just that the games are slower and uglier on the PS2 compared to the GC, but I'll bet that Xbox games look better then the GC.
The GameCube didn't do "too little" it does exactly what it was designed to do and does it well, play games.
I have a PS2 and a GameCube, I've rented the exact same game for each system and have seen that the GC is much better for playing games. Better graphics and much faster load times (almost half the time to load the same on a PS2). The PS2 has a better controller, but it's very frustrating to wait for PS2 games to load with a huge pause in the action.
If I have an option of getting a game on the GC or the PS2, the GC wins hands down.
If I wanted to watch a movie, the PS2 is capable but thats about it. It's better to do one thing great then to do lots of things mediocre.
How many action games actually are? How do we know for sure that the Strogg are a cruel dominating people? They could just be misunderstood and the Quake 2 & 4 storyline is based on one persons bad experience with them
Inaccurate or not, it's still just a game and was made purely for entertainment only, Postal 2 was quite fun but I don't recall ever being in a town quite like that...
Come on people, relax...it's just a game! It's not like Activision is telling people go out to slander and kill Apaches. Not to mention it's a period game that takes place in a time when hostility towards the Apaches was very high.
I don't agree with what happened in the past, but that can't be changed and people should know, understand and learn from history. Let's educate people with accurate history instead of trying to re-write the past in order to cover up ones shame.
I believe Gary Coleman had a small part in-game in Postal 2
And what a great scene that was, you get his autograph and the police storm the mall to arrest Gary. So Gary gets all pissed off, pulls out an assault rifle and the fun begins!
Gamers that have not played Postal 2 should really pick it up and give it whirl, just keep it away from the young children as it gets really weird quite often...unless you want to explain what a 'gimp suit' is to your kids:)
Nice, looks to built on the SCUMM engine...any clue if this works in Linux with SCUMMVM or at least possibly wine?
I can't find too many details on it since it does seam to be a very obscure fan game, if it is indeed SCUMM it should be repackaged and sent in to http://scummvm.sourceforge.net/
I feel the same way about toxic waste dumps. If someone would just figure out a way to use all that waste, it'd be a goldmine!
They've been trying but there has not been any cost effective solutions yet, they all cost way more then it's worth at this point. For information on it look up transmutation and modern alchemy.
So a product aimed at a well defined group of people is ridiculous?
Not at all, but this product in particular is one of those "good idea but misdirected" products
Something like this would be great for a console system and might have potential on a PC like they are trying to do. But in the end, this product was poorly made, rushed and never refined. As I stated, this is useless for anyone other then those that can't remember where the 'asdw' keys are and I'll add that it should have been targeted for console systems instead of the PC
I can't decide if its pure genius or just ridiculous.
Ridiculous
This is for people that can't even type let alone find asdw and spend more time looking at the keyboard then playing or doing anything else productive with the keyboard...mouse people
Isn't the whole "going outside" what caused all these problems in the first place? If the kids would have stayed inside they would have never done their crimes, thus "Jack" would have nothing to complain about
Thanks! I WILL have to keep Acronis in mind, looks good and is cheaper (less expensive) then Symantec...now to teach people that brand names mean nothing:)
I can't think of any software of theirs that I would consider putting on a system, so I can't say I'm surprised by stuff like this.
Ghost, that is the only product of thiers I can think of that is even remotely worth getting. Even though the need to install it to make a boot disk seems a bit strange...
But if I ever have a need to image a disk I'd recommend Knoppix and use partimage if you have the capacity to read simple instructions and learn without pictures...otherwise I tell the lamaas to spend the $70 on Ghost (or whatever it is these days)
But Ghost is great if you have to roll out 20+ machines on a network, I've also used it to make a bootable CD that contains the image...but for someone that needs it once or twice, it's a waste of money
And 2+ years isn't that long - eventually, you're probably going to reinstall (unless the machine is mission critical, or you're resisting the reinstall for posterity's sake).
2 years in most Linux distros is over 3 releases (unless it's Debian, then you're probably running the lastest still =P). Why reinstall when everything works right and is up to date? Gentoo doesn't make releases like other distros and does a constant gradual upgrade, that way things break in pieces instead of all at once =P
You also mention putting/home on a serperate disk as opposed to a seperate partition, this is a HUGE difference and something you have to force Windows users to even begin to grasp as they will continue to save everything to C:/ instead of ~/ If Windows even had a ~/ that would solve a ton of problems, if just having Unix users use it
I've been on the same install for the last 2+ years and this is even AFTER a major hard drive crash where the entire system had to be restored from backups without reinstalling any underlaying OS.
I've tried this with Windows and it freaks out because for some reason you can not make a true backup of the system. Only way I've rebuilt Windows is to reinstall the whole OS first, then restore the data...talk about a pain!
IE 4.0 also happened to be the version that had caught up with Netscape. Then in 2000 when Netscape 6.0 was released everyone dumped it because it became to horrible to use.
IE overtook Netscape because it was the better browser at the time that MS was using other tactics to force its wide and successful adoption.
IE overtook Netscape because Microsoft started offering IE for free and then wrapped the OS around it. The new PC owners never needed to 'shop and compaire' browsers since IE was there waiting for them.

Not if you try logging on with your gmail login, how many slashdotters and their family's have a gmail account you think?
Looks like someone needs their joke-o-meter re-calibrated
Starts? I recall they made huge leaps and bounds last year, through out the entire year, nearly as good as nvidia now

I kind of like the short stylus, keeps me from applying too much pressure and forces a light touch on the screen which is all that is needed.

It's possible, just not very practical
I don't know why the submitter would submit this story and leave out the link to the real story...
:)
http://www.gopostal.com/statement/
Maybe he was afraid people would browse the site and buy the game or even find the "Postal Babe of the Month" section
Only on Thursdays, after 12:00pm CST
Not at all, but this product in particular is one of those "good idea but misdirected" products

They forgot to mention that the average first person shooter will take 3 hours to complete and will require about 1TB of hard drive space to install
But it will look fantastic!

You also mention putting
If Windows even had a ~/ that would solve a ton of problems, if just having Unix users use it
most computers come with "restore" disks that wipe the whole f**king drive no matter how the partitions are set up.
Those are incase someone installs Linux and has not discovered fixmbr to remove Grub/LILO =P
You reinstall Linux?

It's not a "hate MS thing" it's what happened.
