I hope it will handle Duke3D, along with some others too... like Ultima Underworld I and II, anybody remember those games??? Pretty much the first FPS, well, without the S, unless you substitute "slasher" for "shooter".
I have a GoPhone too. I didn't buy my phone from ATT since i had a GSM tri-band phone that i brought back from Europe. I like the plan a lot. I pay $30/mo. and get only 150 minutes, so maybe I should upgrade my plan. Eitherway, the nationwide coverage, nationwide roaming, free long distance, and free night (9pm - 9am) & weekend minutes are all great features for something w/o a contract. I'd get a contract if my stupid college loans didn't ruin my credit rating... oh well, GoPhone is cool and matches pretty much what I had in Europe, where i think cell phone companies are a bit more consumer friendly.
I agree 100 percent that competition is what keeps Intel "honest," and I don't really think it's bad at all either that intel always takes the number one spot on most benchmarks, even if they win by a little bit, because it makes AMD strive hard to make competive yet cost-effective products, and then on the VIA side, with the new EDEN processors and such, seems they are venturing into a domain that is much demanded by the geek-world: silent hardware. I say, Intel is cool cause they lead, and if you can't afford their processors or mobos, then just kick-it AMD style! As long as I am a poor post-grad payin off loans, i'll be going AMD, while secretly dreaming of one of those perty P4's!
What is even more interesting is how much the MP3 ripping and cd-copying technology has been advertised in the last 5 years. It's as if the major corporations like Sony, Philips, etc... wanted the masses to buy such products, only to have the masses, later on, become the target of the music industry and/or movie industry. I remember reading something about Sony Music and Sony (Tech.) Corperation being in a dispute because the music folks were losing money (supposedly) to people illegally trading and copying cds, where as the Sony tech company people were making bank on CD-RW drives and such... (i think i learned about that on slashdot, but with all the reading one does now a days... it's becoming one icky blur.)
And now, just in the last 2 years, we have DVD-burners... I mean, what the fuck are we supposed to do with that besides copy DVDs? And since poor people become poorer, and DVDs and CDs are so expensive, it's only logical that people will pay nothing if their other option is to pay a shitload. I mean, shit, we already spend a lot on buying the computer and then paying for internet service.
Point being, there is some major hypocrosy going on here, and I understand it's human to contradict oneself from time to time; i just wish people would own up!
(ps... xscuse all the cursing, i'm in France and foul language is a part of a hot-topic conversation)
It's cool to see how people's priorities have changed. I think people just want what they don't already have, and back in the day, the atari thingy and such didn't need fans and blah blah blah, so when something new came out, like the affor-mentioned IBM computer, and it made noise, people were like, "wow man... hear that shit?!! that's power." or whatever. Anyway, nowadays, most every body has some thrumb-humming monster next to or under their desk, and we've grown sick of that constant noise... so now it's cool to have what every else doesn't... some pure power, silent style!
I believe that was a war between two Democracies. Granted, they spawned from the same source, but i am pretty sure they were democratically elected capitalist nations. I'm no history major, but it's just one example I can think of.
