    You don't need to generate electricity to run airconditioners to cool a building down. All you need to do is cover the whole city with a giant mirror to reflect the solar heat back up into space.

    In effect they would be pumping heat from the desert to more temperate climes, making the desert colder and the temperate area hotter. I'd like to see the econuts comment on that.

    No, you should not make observations like that. It is pure heresy and you will burn in the hell of global warming. The tundra was created by the Gods in an intelligent design, to confuse us and make us think that the earth is older than 6000 years. Also, the increased farming area that the tundra offers, will destroy the whole famine and food aid industry - therefore we need to keep the earth cool.

    I have at least 6 DVD players in the house, of which 3 are actually connected to TVs, but they haven't been used in years, except to play music CDs (or load computer software). DVD players are becoming irrelivant due to PVRs, cable and satellite services. The DVD copying paranoia will just hasten its demise.

    I think the problem is that the total abortion that was FreeSWAN, put all geeks permanently off of IPSEC. Unless IPSEC has been improved beyond belief, I certainly won't bother with it.

    I use SSH for everything, because it is easy to set up, it is known to be secure and it has wonderful debug capabilities built in.

    PopTop - Ugh. This is known to be insecure, so why bother setting it up? You should try SSH. Much easier to set up. Runs on any OS. Known to be secure. Easy to tunnel Windows networking over it. Robust. Built-in debug capability.

    Amazing! ONE manufacturer that is not a total friggen dolt. Any half decent EPROM programmer can be configured to generate random or data list based numbers to be used for passwords. Therefore, the manufacturers that ship millions of devices with exactly the same settings should be clobbered with clue sticks.

    "My computer is protected and on the other side of a firewall." Therefore you need not care. You have already done the right thing. However, all the el'cheapo WiFi routers have the WiFi modem on the INSIDE of the firewall. Ordinary home users do not realize this.

    A hallmark of religion is circular logic and circular myths. A good example of evolution in rapid action is the constant changes in influenza viruses. It only takes a few weeks for a flu virus to mutate sufficiently to become infectious again in a previously immune host.
